Hey Bill! Happy freakin’ 79th to Ian Hunter, by the way!

Hey, those are the kinds of questions I ask because I'm totally ignorant of living details elsewhere. For instance, these days is really expensive to live on the East Coast here.
Avatar 9:28am

@VP - Hunter is 79.... wow... you know he's doing a few shows this summer with Morgan Fisher & Arial Bender...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am

Shocked by the price of everything in Oxfordshire, UK, during the April visit there, Bill. Canadian money x the exchange of 1.8 = local prices!

@ Bill - yes! Hoping they get to the states with that!
Avatar 9:31am

@sem It seems like we touch on living expenses in other places on a regular basis. I've always wondered how feasiable it would be for a Yank to live someplace like NS, Labrador or Newfoundland.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40am

So many intangibles and taken-for-granteds in that assessment. Sure, it takes 0.77 US cents to buy a Canadian dollar, amd friends who moved here from Orange County, Calif., said they had better internet access speed than there, BUT...
As for Labrador, if you want to live at 51 degrees north, try Oxfordshire, UK. Same latitude but minus the tundra, seals, Inuit, and 11 month winters.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am
Uncle Michael:

rw, yes, I've been here since '80, minus one 2.5 year span. I'll bet we know people in common. I had no idea you hailed from around here. KJHK was once great...and the *second* radio station to ever stream online.

Good. that's the old man's tax return done. Two hours it took. I meant to do it this morning but slept in for some unknown reason.

UM, I grew up in So. Cal. but was at KU in '82-'84. I'll bet we do know people in common. I still talk to and see Frank Morris occasionally. Wade Johnston too. You know either of those guys?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12am
Stanley:

To avoid doing anything, as it happens. Now liberated I shall enjoy the rest of the show and I'm out to a gig later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
Uncle Michael:

No. The music guys I know would be Steve Wilson and Todd Newman. Bet we were at all the same shows at the Lawrence Opera House.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16am
doctorjazz:

Yup, at Union Transfer, watta great band they put together. Ars Nova even printed up books with essays by different writers, didn't get to read them yet, Ben Ratliff was one, quite a few others. Show was dedicated to Philly. (pain to get there and back, but I like Philly...).
  11:16am

I remember Todd! How's he doing? Yeah, I'm sure we crossed paths a few times. Did Iggy Pop play the Opera House? Shockabilly? Those are a couple shows I remember.

Iggy at the Opera House three years running. Todd's been in Minneapolis for many years. He works at an art museum and is a single dad. He moved up there with The Leatherwoods, the band he formed with Tim O'Reagan long before Tim joined the Jayhawks. You must remember Steve...fronted Thums and worked at Keif's Records.
Avatar 11:21am
Bill Mac:

Me too! I wasn't expecting it to be this catchy
  11:21am
rw:

I remember one night at the radio station Todd Newman peeking through the window to see what song the DJ was about to play and then calling to request that song. Doing it several times in a row with different voices. Every time the DJ would come out and say, "Hey, you'll never guess what just happened!"
