Loop is playing some dates in the UK this summer, FWiW. I saw them here in Portland in 2014 and at ATP Iceland in 2015. Way better shows than the first go around in Seattle in 1991 or so - where they got heckled mercilessly by the Sub Pop crew (Love Battery opened, if I recall correctly).

didn't Fish smoke a joint with Sir Paul? I seem to recall this....

But don't you dare play the zebra trucks, because then I'll think something's wrong at the xmtr. It's like WNBC-TV uses "The Lucky Texan".

Yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm
mrdonutsu:

My guess was that there was some "hiphop style" beef going down between the Sub Poppers and the UK scene at that time, probably mostly because the UK guys were so serious at the Seattle ethos was distinctly not. At least the Mudhoney side of the great Green River Schism. The Pearl Jam side however, totally different thing.

YASSSSS.... among very favorite HW tracks.

I concur. In spades.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm

E.g., brief incarnation of the Pearl Jam side of post Green River was called "Lords of the Wasteland". What was to be Mudhoney immediately dubbed themselves "The Wasted Landlords".

Chrome, Hawkind, Neu, Black Mountain! Am I in heaven?
  1:46pm
Polyus:

True, irreverence was a merit badge for a lot of rock bands then. Still, I thought A Gilded Eternity was so far above what most bands were doing with guitars at the time. Especially when so many people were just copping Blue Cheer.

I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by WH compared to the last time I saw them as a trio - they are tethered to loops/samples since Ego moved to drums and the set never really cut loose. Still, the songs are good. Some of it made me think of Gnod, which makes sense given how much they collaborate.
