So my neighbor decided to mow my back yard without telling me. Thoughts?
This Lee Morgan is really great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Ken From Hyde Park:

WFMU has a quality assurance department? Who knew?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm Irwin:

Para español, o prima dos.
Avatar 3:08pm βrian:

That's very weird — if you weren't laid up in the hospital or something.
Avatar 3:11pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Brian-we went away for the weekend, then it happened. His wife walked into my garden last summer, picked a tomato and proceed to eat it there.
Avatar 3:12pm Henry:

get me out of here, Irwin.
Thank you.
Avatar 3:13pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Irwin, your Jazz selections are so much better than the Jazz station in Toronto that is supposed to be world class. Meh.
Avatar 3:14pm Fredericks:

Irwin, when are you being interviewed about Sun Ra?
Avatar 3:15pm βrian:

Stealing my children is one thing, but *do not* touch my tomatoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Irwin:

Fred: Mon May 21 on WPRB Princeton. They webcast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm tom from Glasgow:

there's a lot to take on board here
Avatar 3:21pm Itzall Ablurr:

Hello Irwin, hope all is well. I just peeked in to see what the hot topics are today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Dominick:

...but pretty boys go thar
Avatar 3:24pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Irwin-I was fortunate to see Sun Ra at Maxwell's in Hoboken in the early 90's. I told one of the guys in Sun Ra they were better than the Grateful Dead and he said "Yeah, we're the Grateful Living!". They played Elephants on Parade from Dumbo...that's all I remember.
  3:24pm Brendan:

Dig how the steel drum background sounded like a sub hull . And the pinging...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Michael 98145:

great story, @Neil

I'm late but I made it, hello Irwin and folx!
Avatar 3:31pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Brian-that is a BRILLIANT idea for a startup. Please contact me immediately and we can get backers. Do you know how many fricking tatoos there are out there?! Seriously, that should be a Shark Tank thing you do like right now. Quit your job. Nah, just kidding. But still, that is really INSPIRED!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Passaic River Blues:

I love this song to an unhealthy degree.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Michael 98145:

all those saggy tats are gonna look peculiar on grandma
Avatar 3:33pm βrian:

Or offer premium tattoos done with invisible ink.
Avatar 3:33pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Micheal-remember the 70 year old punk rocker on Max Headroom in the 80's? They'd look like that....
Avatar 3:34pm rbx:

I appreciate a tattoo artist that tries to talk you down. Kind of wish the one that did my finger tatts had tried to dissuade me at all. haha. c'est le vie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Michael 98145:

gonna be a scary future.

invisible tats would need to be activated by lemon juice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Michael 98145:

fine choices today, mr irwin
Avatar 3:40pm βrian:

As I remember, the lemon juice serves as the ink. It's activated when you apply a hot iron.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Alison Porchnik:

That fantastic Gil Evans cut was so inappropriate. Catchy what a totally offensive title. I call for a dedicated Safe Space (tm) on Irwin's show! Who's with me? Let's get a petition to Ken!
Avatar 3:55pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@AP: Triggered!Not.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm Irwin:

I want to apologize, AP. I need to listen to my listeners more often and respect their sensitivities, esp. the gurls.
  3:56pm berbo:

@AP - I agree. We have no need of any promiscuous 'dance'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:56pm Alison Porchnik:

This has nothing to do with gender. You are such a sexist, Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Alison Porchnik:

@berbo - as for the "Arab" aspect - so belittling. I sense a Zionist conspiracy.
  3:58pm wygalator:

hey Irwin I emailed you a couple of songs we're playing fri. nite there.
Avatar 3:58pm βrian:

Wait, how are you pronouncing "Arab?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm Irwin:

AP: Wait, I can walk that back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Irwin:

Billy Cobham. There's a story. Panamanian, and a damned fine skinsman. I think we were in Texas at the time. Was it, Banderas? Kerrville, maybe? At any rate, it must have been '67 or '68. Way before Mahatmagishna or whatever that outfit was called that Billy was in when they had their 15-minutes of fame. I was playing piccolo trombone with Kurt Hirt (Al's brother) at that time, and things were not going particularly well. Al, of course, was on fire, hit after hit, especially "Java." That one really connected, and Kurt wanted a piece of the action. I recall we were playing the East Texas circuit, trying to get Kurt's single, "Tea Bag," to catch on. It never did. Still, one particular gig brought me face to face with Billy Cobham, who was with The Canals at that time, a Panamanian Top 40 band that had broken through back home, but wasn't having a lot of luck in the states. Their set consisted mostly of playing a couple of forgettable ditties and then letting Billy play a 50-60 minute solo. I recall distinctly, watching him from the stage apron, marvelling at his incredible talent as he unleashed his unique blend of ratamacues, and paradiddles in front of a mostly indifferent Texan audience who was there to see the headliner, Freddy Fender. At one pont, Billy motioned for me to come up on stage and join him in an impromptu jam. I did as he requested, only to be fired later by a very jealous and angry Kurt Hirt. A few years later, I was asked to audition for Mahatmagishna, but I had a prior commitment with Dick Jensen that I could not get out of. Billy was a great guy, and Spectrum was a great album. I sometimes wistfully imagine what a little piccolo trombone might have added to the mix, but I'll never know. Great show, Irwin. Always enjoy it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm Irwin:

Lyle, is that you?
  5:31pm Lyle:

Oh, gee. That last long paragraph was mine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Irwin:

I fixed it!

  5:49pm Lyle:

Thanks, Kenny. Hyde Park. That's a jazz town. I went through there with Bart Tatum (Art's brother) one time. But, that's a story for a different day.
