Hi Scott W.! I'd like to apologize for calling you Scotty M. a couple of weeks ago. That was someone I used to work with. also an M looks like an upside-down W. Looking forward to the show!
  3:03pm bill:

1986 would make a great subject for a show, or segment. So much changed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm blee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm ThuddNugget:

Ha! This is awesome!
  3:05pm Pas Musique:

What's up peoples!!!???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm Michael 98145:

just think. this flexi may outlast CD technology.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Michael 98145:

I saw X at Madame Wong's back in the day.
Avatar 3:08pm Jeff Moore:

Dunno about no Exciters, but all you stream listeners are listening to Scott through an Aphex Compellor.
Avatar 3:08pm northguineahills:

Is there a doppelganger for the Aphex Aural Exciter, a genetic identical one by chance?
Avatar 3:09pm JakeGould:

1986 was great year to be an audio equipmnent ad creative who discovered “aural” and “oral” sound the same.
Avatar 3:09pm JakeGould:

  3:10pm McGreivey:

Gosh. I guess I need an Aural Exciter. Sold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm mrdonutsu:

The first Aural Exciter units were available in the mid-1970s, exclusively on the rental basis of $30 per minute of finished recorded time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm Rob (Jerzcity):

@northguineahills: I think there is...my buddy Richard D knows a little more
Avatar 3:10pm thedunkel:

hot man - real hot
Avatar 3:10pm JakeGould:

1986 was a magical year… Not everything was completely lunkheaded yet…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm mrdonutsu:

That would be $135/minute in today's $$!!
  3:11pm McGreivey:

Way far cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm steveo:

$3000 an hour?
Avatar 3:11pm JakeGould:

$135 a minute for aural excitement?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm mrdonutsu:

$8100/hour to crack the charts!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Michael 98145:

those are lawyer wages
Avatar 3:12pm Jeff Moore:

Ooh, Big Bottom!

"The original Aphex Aural Exciter, first offered in 1975, came without the Big Bottom circuit, which was added in 1992."
Avatar 3:13pm northguineahills:

Lultz, Rob; (why do I know his middle name is David, not so Cornish).
Avatar 3:13pm Yair Yona:

always great to be back :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Parq:

What would happen if I ran my computer keyboard through that thing. Would it improve my writing? I mean, like, exponentially?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm listener james from westwood:

Marijuana is the flame, heroin is the fuse, the Aphex Aural Exciter is the bomb!
Avatar 3:14pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Micheal 98145: I read on the internet that CDs may last between 7 and 200 years. So who is really right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm mrdonutsu:

Damn, just read that someone left KEXP $10 million in their will. Won't some rich weirdo hurry up and croak for the sake of WFMU?
Avatar 3:15pm Chris from DC:

What would happen if you ran Aphex Twin through that thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Imagine the surprise if a person ordered an Anal Exciter by mistake.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Parq:

The T Cells track sounded like my mind on most Mondays.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm steveo:

KEXP: "Initial investments planned for the funds include “education programs aimed at inspiring younger audiences to engage their curiosity around music, services and programming for emerging artists, media creation experiences for aspiring DJs and music journalists, and outreach activities aimed at deepening KEXP’s connections to local communities.”"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Bas NL:

Scott! Everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Rob (Jerzcity):

holy crap. this song.
  3:17pm Philip:

I've never said this before, but the original recording was perfect, and it would be impossible to do anything better or worthy.
  3:18pm McGreivey:

I haven't had any CDs fail yet, unless they were scratched. I do have some 15-year-old CDRs that I haven't played in 15 years, though.
  3:18pm J:

You get this stuff out of Utopia studios in Woodstock?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm steveo:

if you invest that and get 5%, that's $500,000, which is 1/3 of WFMU's main marathon goal...
Avatar 3:18pm northguineahills:

@Wild Neil: I have cdrs from 20 years ago that still play in my car cd player but not on any other, so, yeah, who know?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm pinholga:

The colossal waste of potential that is KEXP never ceases to enrage me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Michael 98145:

will i still want to hear my CDs 200 years from now?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm хтinа:

hey scott, tater totz just sent my coworker spinning back to another world lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm Parq:

What a haunting voice Karen Dalton has.
Avatar 3:25pm βrian:

Yep, she always makes me stop what I'm doing.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Uncle Michael:

Serious question, Scott: Is the Aphex in the chain before or after compression?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Rob (Jerzcity):

Was that Joe's original, or did he cover Bryce's EAS test from Friday?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Webhamster Henry:

Madame Dong's was also featured on the 365 Days project. I used to have a big pile of Keyboard Mag flexis, all gone now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Rob (Jerzcity):

knew it. youse guys are all masters of your craft
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Bas NL:

Nah... Heisenberg compensator failure..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm steveo:

just check the eas log to find a working eas test in the archives and then use the pop-up player to play it over the air?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think the only flexi I ever had was one from a box of Sugar Crisp cereal from the 70s. (Or maybe it was from Honey Combs?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Ken From Hyde Park:

People should call 201-209-9368 and leave a substitute EAS announcement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Webhamster Henry:

Fans of Flexis can check out the venerable Internet Flexi Museum, curated by DJ MAC: www.wfmu.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Rob (Jerzcity):

I remember having a McDonald's flexi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Rob (Jerzcity):

it was probably just a big mac patty with grooves cut into it
Avatar 3:56pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm Rob (Jerzcity):

Avatar 3:58pm βrian:

Gotta love a track named Lionel. Choo-choo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Parq:

Speaking of MAC (see W/M Harry @ 3;53), he was in the papers this past weekend:
Avatar 4:14pm βrian:

This reminds me of a certain second-grade field trip. That was an odd day.
Avatar 4:16pm fred:

This Olli Aarni track would be a fit for a Twin Peaks soundtrack
Also, hello Scott and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Scott Williams:

  4:18pm Pas Musique:

Avatar 4:18pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Rob (Jerzcity):

Avatar 4:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Day off today, can't tune in, but felt a tickle in the cortex... must've been the Moebius/Beerbohm. Lovely LP, that. Cheers, lovely lizards.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm joe:

It's so bright
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm joe:

Did you try turning it off and on again?
  4:35pm Tom from Maplewood:

What is the genre of “easy listening” music so difficult to listen to?
  4:35pm medson:

Hola Scott
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm Scott Williams:

@joe, I'm scared to! they might find out, and then what...?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Scott Williams:

Hey Medson! See you Wednesday

  5:02pm listener monica:

and hello coelacanth!
Avatar 5:03pm coelacanth∅:

hey you following me?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:06pm Scott Williams:

Hello Monica!
Avatar 5:10pm fred:

My dad told me I once attended a Théâtre du Chêne Noir performance, sleeping through it. I was 5 or 6 at the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Scott Williams:

I'm jealous, Fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Michael 98145:

( learned something new : Chêne Noir == Black Oak )
Avatar 5:16pm northguineahills:

Ok, I have a story. I found this Jack Tamul LP in a thrift store, when I was an undergrad. My friend found that he lived outside of Jacksonville, so we looked him up and called him. He said he no longer composed music and discounted this album as rubbish, and only djed weddings (this was about '96).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Scott Williams:

Good story, ngh! He's wrong, of course, this record's fantastic
  5:17pm Irene:

Amazing show today, Scott! I have been transported...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Michael 98145:

- that would be some downbeat wedding -
  5:18pm brycepunk1:

Thus Jack Tamul track is awesome!
Avatar 5:19pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Scott Williams:

Hi Irene! Thank you!
Avatar 5:19pm fred:

Yeah, that's a great one. Though I get how that wouldn't get him many wedding gigs
Avatar 5:21pm northguineahills:

I imagine living in FL, one probably got ridiculed for doing electro-acoustic music in the 80s, and one has to make a living. My friend and just wanted to tell him how much we liked the album and if he had any more and/or played live.
Avatar 5:22pm northguineahills:

I'm still trying to find a copy of the film Sorcerer (never seen it), still a fave sndtrk of mine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Michael 98145:

@ngh, Sorcerer is well-worth seeing
Avatar 5:30pm northguineahills:

Jack Tamul originally composed that LP for a planetarium show.
Avatar 5:31pm fred:

@NGH: You and your friend did a cool thing there. If he believed it wasn't a prank, he was probably pleased someone remembered that record. I'll try to see Lea Bertucci this Sunday. Venue not confirmed yet, so it might not happen
  5:33pm ?:

Somebody claiming to be Jack shows up here in the comments in 2011 and doesn't sound negative, so maybe he got over his self=loathing phase: https://continuo.wordpress.com/2010/01/22/jack-tamul-electroacoustic/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm listener james from westwood:

Desert Fairy Princess!!
Avatar 5:35pm northguineahills:

@fred: still jealous. She told me if she ventured south this direction, she be up for a gig. (miss my NYC friends).
Avatar 5:40pm northguineahills:

@?: Well, it was 19 years old in said comment, and I was 19 and the time, and we just cold called him, so, I'm happy he finally embraced it. I was hoping he was in a suspicious/bad mood when we called him. He wasn't rude, just surprised anyone was interested. I suppose the internet opened him up to the true appreciation of his work.
  5:41pm ami ad:

Hello D.J Scott, hello all.Hope every one is doing well. Thanks for the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Scott Williams:

Hey Ami!
Avatar 5:43pm northguineahills:

Apparently he was doing composition into the early 90s, and then quit until right before 2010. So, the internet must him be made aware that we weren't pranksters, and genuine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Michael 98145:

- and who doesn't like dancing with a Desert Fairy Princess now and then ? ♫♪ -
  5:46pm ami ad:

Allo Allo.Godt times Saturday. Thanks for the art too.
Avatar 5:46pm fred:

I probably won't get a chance to do it, but I'll remind her of that promise if I get a chance to talk with her
Avatar 5:47pm thedunkel:

sounding good scott! going to GBV?
Avatar 5:47pm fred:

My previous comment was @NGH
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Scott Williams:

Ahoy Dunkel! Alas, no - you?
Avatar 5:51pm JakeGould:

Hey Scott! This show kept me on a relatively even keel on what is a *cough* sick day for me. That is an actual cough. Not some subtweet.
Avatar 5:52pm βrian:

I missed the last hour sadly, but this has been great. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm common:

this is good shit.
Avatar 5:55pm fred:

@Scott: My dad was very surprised I had heard about Théâtre du Chêne Noir, and even more when I told him I heard about it from an American radio station
Avatar 5:56pm northguineahills:

Get better Kid Millions! Healing vibes your way!
Avatar 5:57pm northguineahills:

GBV is coming to Gainesville. It's not often a musician I already worship comes here.
Avatar 5:57pm thedunkel:

yes - GBV on wednesday - it's a must - i'm chalking it up to a religious experience or if ruth asked me to do something …
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm I am the Upsetter:

These Flexi discs are something. Where is the surface noise?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm Michael 98145:

yes, thank you, Scott W !
