Ha, this was the stuff that Muddy hated, right?

To make my stupid opinion clear about the Electric Mud, I really don't like the psychedelic guitar slathered over the whole thing. I think he would have been better served by a more tasteful band backing him. I don't know... Butterfield? Miller?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21am
pacific standard simon:

Although it might have been interesting to hear Muddy Waters backed by The Stooges.. heh
  3:22am
markr:

Muddy did an album like that later called "Fathers and Sons."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am

I think I need that record.

I'm listening in Tokyo, translating a Japanese unicycle manual into English as I listen and digging every moment of the show! Thanks for the great tunes!

Since you asked, I am on Bainbridge Island, Washington. I moved here from San Francisco, where I lived for 30 years. Before that, I lived in all sorts of places.

A jolly hello to all of you! Welcome to our little asylum.

@Powers - That sounds like a magical existence, although I admit that you may not agree.

It's not too shabby- at least with Pharoah Sanders on and you great folk!

Second show in a row to go with the Pharoah! WFMU! Any Archie Shepp?
  3:49am
markr:

Is that right? I didn't check Jeff's playlist, and I only heard the last half-hour or so of his show. Also thought it was a nice bit of cosmic coincidence that he closed his show with those great old blues songs---Lightnin' Hopkins, etc., and then I come on and destroy everything with that psychedelic Muddy. Like most people, I hated that album at first, but over the years, it's grown on me, and now I actually think it's kind of great, in small doses. It's not in my daily rotation or anything. And it's certainly not the album I'd start with if a youngster wanted to learn about Muddy Waters. I'd still play 'em "The Best of Muddy Waters," for a good, solid foundation. And no, no Archie Sheep tonight, although I know I've played him on previous shows. He's a favorite of mine, and he may well make an appearance in the near future.

This is amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am

Yep, Jeff played "The Creator Has A Master Plan". That's the great thing about the station: It's all over the place, but sometimes it lines up like the stars and planets.
  3:54am
markr:

I haven't listened to this in a very long time, Vincent. In fact, it's possible I somehow missed it among all the fantastic late 60s/early 70s albums Pharaoh cranked out. I previewed it this afternoon--wasn't really planning on playing anything this long at this point in the show, but a few minutes' listening convinced me I had to make room for it. Glad you're enjoying it too!

H’lo PacificST! Awesome adoption!

Bainbridge Island, that’s a good place to be. Assuming you have a car, and knowing what to do with it. Or a boat. Both would be nice!
  3:55am
markr:

Wow, love "The Creator Has a Master Plan," too. Very cool.
  3:56am

What about a car with a boat on it, you guys? Then you just pull up to the dock, drop the ramp, and drive right off into the sunset.

BTW, I have a huge problem with surfing the interface of my atheism and the overt religious content of some very affecting music. I can't even sing along with "God Only Knows" anymore. Yeesh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06am

Scraps, I live 7/10s 0f a mile from my job, so walking to work is no problem. The ferry isn't much further. So no car or boat.

Spring is definitely here. We don't expect warmer temps, we just know that flowers and trees are going to bloom, and we aren't going to get no mo snow, even if we want it,
  4:38am
markr:

Supposed to be a lovely sunny early Spring day here, hope you have some of the same. Still a chill in the air (especially this early in the a.m.) but when the sun comes out, there's hope.
  4:39am
markr:

It's too early for me to say with confidence that we're through with snow in New Jersey. March has been a rough one--it's like we had the whole Winter in one month. A lot of heavy, wet snow, a lot of downed trees. Fingers crossed that we're through with all that nonsense. It's almost baseball season, after all.
Avatar 4:40am
Scraps h’m (h’m):

please no snow....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44am
pacific standard simon:

We only get snow maybe twice a winter in NW Washington. Sometimes not at all. That's why I hope for it.

  4:45am

Cheers, Scraps. May this Beethoven piano sonata lead to pleasant dreams.
Avatar 4:49am
Scraps h’m (h’m):

I know, that’s why everybody wants snow in the PNW. But I’m selfish; I can’t go out in the snow. Makes me miserable, knowing very clearly how I’m disabled. Grrr, and sigh both

The name Mitsuko is generally written with the kanji characters 光 and 子 which, when translated into English can mean "light, child" or "shining, child".[2] However Mitsuko can have different meanings depending on which kanji characters are used to write the name. Some possible variations of the name Mitsuko are:

光子, "light, child"
充子, "provide, child"
満子, "satisfy/full, child"
睦子, "harmonious/intimate/friendly, child"
三子, "third child"
密子, "carefulness/secrecy, child"
蜜子, "honey/nectar/molasses, child"

I agree with all of that.

Well, Newman is probably the Beethoven of pop songwriting. Or maybe the Gershwin, which would be nice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08am

I could have used another 40 years of Gershwin.
