Hi All! Sorry to hear of MES's passing, and lots to honor his art with. Here is some! @Wild Neil, NO 4 Eyed 4 is totally separate. Part of The Paul Roessler Thing which always airs at 12:30
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Rich in Washington:

this wins for being the least expected thing for The Fall to cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for playing lots of Fall, Diane!

Pretty sure I first heard No Xmas for John Quays on Rodney's show then, too, or maybe it was KPFK, Meltzer's show.

hi, Diane and folks. RIP, MES!
  1:03pm Dean:

And then there's the black hole of rock, Repetition. If you heard no other rock music, you could infer it all from that one song.

Yep, Hep Cats from Hell. I managed to visit the show a couple times. Meltzer was a hoot.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Gaylord Fields:

Oh, wow, this is like classic Damned but somehow up to date. That makes me happy.
  1:12pm Jeremy:

Funny, I was thinking it sounded like classic Naz Nomad & the Nightmares!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm COE:

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm COE:

According to Visconti this is supposed to be a culmination of all the Damned's styles and then some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Coe:

oh 'ello folks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Gaylord Fields:

@COE: I think they succeeded in that goal.

And Penelope, you kiss your mother with that mouth?
  1:14pm Dean:

Penelope takes very good care of her mother!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Gaylord Fields:

Actually, she takes good care of all us mothers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Stevel:

Getting darker in here...
  1:15pm Dean:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Coe:

@Gaylord Agreed. I think this is for better or worse going to be the album that brings them back to attention. The 30th anniversary shows were so amazing. This line up of the band has been togeather for like 20 years excluding bass changes and it shows.
Avatar 1:16pm Cheri Pi:

I read this at first as Goatless, and thought....how sad
Avatar 1:16pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Coe:

Sorry I gush when it comes to the Damned.
  1:17pm Dean:

I read it first as Goatees, and thought, that's an interesting name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Coe:

  1:18pm Dean:

But I like Goatess. Was once in a band dubbed Goat Wife.
Avatar 1:19pm Cheri Pi:

Plenty of goats out there for adoption, no one should go without.
Avatar 1:19pm Chris from DC:

Goatess is a new one to me. Clickied.

Sounds just like Ozzy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Mister Dobalina:

  1:21pm G>O>A>T:

Definite Black Sabbath fixation.

This is something!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Gaylord Fields:

Love ya, Pi!!! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Coe:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Monolord Fields:

This band will be hearing from my lawyer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Stereolord Fields:

Never mind. We've reached a compromise.
  1:28pm speedy0314:

Diane -- Pete H. from FB. that last tune ("River Run Red") killed it! was that Monolord? let me know -- i need to take a very dedicated interest in whoever that was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Steveolord:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Gaylord Fields:

Ha! This is the House of Lords.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm chris:

  1:33pm Polyus:

Wow, Diane brings the high school flashbacks with Riot.
  1:33pm speedy0314:

Zeal & Ardour -- got it. this has the making of a very satisfying obsession.
Avatar 1:33pm Chris from DC:

  1:38pm Dean:

Strikes me that "False Alarm" is a curiously non-portentous, non-aggressive title for a metal tune, kinda like "Never Mind," or "I Take That Back."
  1:40pm Dean:

Not that an entire album of songs like "Pardon Me" or "My Mistake" wouldn't be a winner. I'm reminded of El Duce's claim in "Woman from Sodom," "I'm very particular, you must understand."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Mister Dobalina:

Diane's karate chop show.
Avatar 1:45pm smilodoncub:

  1:48pm Dean:

A friend of mine guided Tony Visconti and his then-wife May Pang on a tour of Disneyland in Anaheim.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm BronwynB:

my six degrees of separation from tony visconti is that my boyfriend's coworker who knows him had lunch with him a while ago and told him about me, saying, "i know a young woman who loves the records you produced for sparks!" and apparently he was happy to hear that the youths like sparks. i nearly cried when i heard this story. tony visconti approves of my musical taste!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm BronwynB:

and that's bronwyn b's rambling personal story for the day. thanks for coming, tip your server
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Michael 98145:

good movie title: The Youths Like Sparks

  1:52pm Bernd:

Great show, Diane. You rule :-)
Avatar 1:52pm MacGuffin:

That's only three degrees of separation. FAIL! It's gotta be six, it's GOTTA be six! :-)
  1:53pm Dean:

I like to think of my anecdote as a six degrees marker respecting John Lennon and Harry Nilsson, not to mention David Bowie, but you know, you get it where you can. Anyway, now I can add BronwynB to the network!
  1:53pm Dean:

(I once interviewed Kevin Bacon's personal assistant, by the way.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm BronwynB:

i think technically it's two degrees since i also know my boyfriend's coworker (just not as well as he does)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm joe:

@BronwynB we will have to get you a Visconti Approved pin that you should certainly wear with pride :) I know I would be giddy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm BronwynB:

did k. bacon's personal assistant have any juicy stories?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm BronwynB:

@joe: i would never ever take it off
  1:55pm Dean:

Naw. She was an alum of the college I attended, and I was editing an alumni newsletter at the time. So we had to keep it cheery and safe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm BronwynB:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Michael 98145:

this is sure making a workday more bearable
  1:56pm Dean:

I'm pretty sure we discussed the six degrees thing. This was in the '90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm joe:

Yay (sarcasm) Meeting bound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm Barney Grubbs:

Everything turns grey takes me back to the old second-hand Posh Hits Vol 1 tape that's in a box in my garage somewhere.
Avatar 2:00pm Polyus:

Casus Belli! One half of the artists formerly known as Bastards.
  2:01pm FRED:

I am enjoying listening to this show over the same headphones I am attending a work meeting. Thanks Diane!
  2:01pm Dean:

I met Robbie Fields, too, when he promoted the F Word album at my record store. Rik L Rik was also in attendance.
Avatar 2:02pm Chris from DC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm chris:

release the demons!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Gaylord Fields:

@BronwynB: As both a live performer and a recording artist, I have one degree of musical separation from Jimi Hendrix!
  2:03pm Dean:

Photo of the Rik L Rik appearance at the record store, about 1/3 way down:
Avatar 2:03pm MacGuffin:

I was once EMPLOYED by Kevin Bacon's former PA, briefly. Well, one of them. Can tell me the first letter of that person's name?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm BronwynB:

@Gaylord: This is so exciting tell me more!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm BronwynB:

Now we find out the degrees of separation between Dean and MacGuffin!
  2:06pm Dean:

Not off the top of my head, @MacGuffin. The correspondence and resulting work resides on an email service I no longer access and in a box somewhere stashed away at home. Maybe I can find something on a vestige of the college web site...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Gaylord Fields:

@BronwynB: I performed live with Lonnie Youngblood on sax, who also performed and recorded with Jimi. That live performance was released on a CD.

I'm also one musical degree of separation from Yoko Ono, hence two degrees from the Beatles.
Avatar 2:08pm MacGuffin:

Whew! That would have been awkward, had the letter been F. She later fired me.
Avatar 2:09pm MacGuffin:

Don't look into it further, please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Michael 98145:

@GF, bravo !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm BronwynB:

@Gaylord: Wow this is so cool!!! You are the coolest!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Gaylord Fields:

@Michael 98145: It seems preposterous when I write it out, but it is true. Especially because I have a recording career of five songs released over 27 years.
  2:11pm Dean:

Except now I'm curious, MacGuffin.

Your reference to Jimi, Gaylord, reminds me that I spent time last weekend with Warren Dewey, recording engineer, who recorded Jimi back in '69, one of Warren's first jobs. The result finally appeared in 2003, when Martin Scorsese promoted his Presents the Blues CD series. Track 9 on the Hendrix release, "Blue Window," is the work of Dewey.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:12pm Gaylord Fields:

@Dean: I am impressed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Aaron Working In Newark:

Great show today Diane thank you!!!
  2:13pm Dean:

Warren is a swell, down-to-earth guy with a helluva resume: Boston, Little Feat, Kiss...Hendrix!
  2:14pm Dean:

Earth, Wind & Fire, Weather Report... In fact, I bought a used 8:30 (WR live, 2LP) from Warren's record store that day, five bucks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Gaylord Fields:

So many important people tend to shun the limelight. Warren probably has a lot of unbelievable but true tales to tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Aaron Working In Newark:

I see you like to play prob Metal, my uncle used to sing in a prob metal band called Toxik.. maybe one day play a track off of World Circus?
  2:15pm Dean:

Indeed. His record store clerk reports he's working on a book. But he's not the kinda guy to tell tales out of school, as far as I can tell. He's more into the technical business of recording, which is great if that's your thing.

One of my fave Entombed tracks. It's like the Dark Lord is jumping right out of my speakers.
Avatar 2:28pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Chesney, agreed. I can't listen to that song without punching the air at least 5 times- can hardly drive during it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Dark Lord Fields:

@Chesney: Entombed will be hearing from my lawyer.

(It's a callback, folks.)

@Dean: Stephen Stills babysat me when I was 18 months old. This is 100% true.

I am, of course, talking about the actor who played Stephen Stills in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm steveo:

My mom made a dress for Jill Biden in the 70s. That's all I got. Jill's not much of a musician, afaik.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm BronwynB:

Yes. My mother remembers her as completely insane and apparently used to feel terrible for Mark because his mom was a lunatic. During the 2016 election she tried to get all the Sanders supporters to fart while Hillary was speaking at the DNC.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm steveo:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm BronwynB:
