Gainsbouurg was a perv, but his music was well composed. That's the pop world, you get all kinds.

Well, I'm slow, it took me a few minutes the interview was w/ April March.
Avatar 4:44pm dale:

i've seen video of that talk show but can't seem to find it now. maybe it was on a very old beware of the blog
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Julie:

the video of les sucettes must be seen to be believed www.youtube.com...
  4:45pm michael z:

I think her literal interpretation of Sucettes was perfectly legitimate. I certainly believed it was about lollipops until It was explained to me.
Avatar 4:47pm dale:

it's hilarious julie. they COULD have gotten some round lollies, but noooooo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Michael 98145:

@Julie, thankx :)
Avatar 4:48pm Brian Cat:

Also Philips is partly to blame for issuing that record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49pm Julie:

@dale exactly. I was like, what? Don't they have round lollipops in France? creepy.
  4:49pm michael z:

What April is saying about innocence is so right. Simplicity and openness are so important to great pop.

Sheila, today's show is a gem!
  5:04pm michael z:

I had no idea about France Gall's later output. She matured into a really serious artist. Why do we have to wait for deaths to have shows like this. You should treat us to tribute shows Sheila of your favourtie artists.
  5:05pm Yami:

The last artist I listened to who I think shows her innocence in her music like that is Norwegian singer Aurora
  5:05pm JasonInBoston:

MERCI BEAUCOUP! I first heard this playing on a tiny radio in the beautiful village of Valbonne, in the south of France in an antique store. I fell in love with it immediately. When I watch the video clip of that song, I can see nearby Cannes in the background. It was meant to be!
Avatar 5:05pm djsheilab:

That's a really great idea Michael Z.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Michael 98145:

what michael z said
  5:06pm Joe McG:

So glad you're going into the '70s and '80s, Sheila. We have a tendency to undervalue artists' "later" work when in fact this is often when they most thoroughly expressed themselves. (I'm thinking of another artist you interviewed on the show, Lesley Gore, whose later work was actually her most personal.) What an outstanding tribute!
