Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm listener james from westwood:

Not enough bands these days are applying adjectives like "sensational" to themselves.

@Glenn: Bless you my son!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Doug Schulkind:

@Listener James
How about the WFMU super (gospel) group The Sensational Happy Travelers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm listener james from westwood:

Ooh, I'd buy patent medicine from them any day of the week!
Avatar 7:15pm still b/p:

Good evening. If you put a Sensational Band and a Magic Band on the same bill...could ordinary attendees survive it?
The purple's turned up but the audio level seems turned down. No?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm BronwynB:

Avatar 7:19pm northguineahills:

Not purple enough! Oh, you meant the volume. maybe a skosh more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm BronwynB:

Avatar 7:21pm still b/p:

I can hear it OK, but it's seems a firm degree lower than typical for Drummer Stream
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:21pm BronwynB:

odd. i have now turned it all the way up!!! it cant go no further!!!!
Avatar 7:22pm northguineahills:

It's fine, but I'm used to the GTDS stream to be louder then the main stream (my phone phones are maxed, usually they're at 60%)
Avatar 7:24pm glenn:

i have enough purple.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm listener james from westwood:

Good Genesis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm BronwynB:

love this album so much
Avatar 7:26pm still b/p:

Mebbe just me? Doug still on here for a two-cent two-ear assessment?

Did St. Paul write an epistle to the Goolutionites?
Avatar 7:26pm glenn:

a.k.a. genesis before phil started singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm BronwynB:

actually this is the first record with phil as lead singer but you can hear peter's influence (tho the album was actually primarily driven by tony banks)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Doug Schulkind:

The volume is fine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Doug Schulkind:

The music is finer.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:31pm BronwynB:

Violent Onsen Geisha has an album called Teenaged Pet Sounds.
Avatar 7:41pm glenn:

really? the whole of selling england by the pound and lamb lies down on broadway are stellar.nursery cryme is mostly great, although i'm not enthused with harold the barrel or harlequin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:42pm doctorjazz:

No volume issues here (maybe a bit loud...?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:43pm doctorjazz:

(just kidding...)
Avatar 7:43pm glenn:

minor note - it's i love you, YOU big dummy.

hey danny :D
Avatar 7:59pm northguineahills:

Doesn't sound like Death Cab for Cutie.
Avatar 8:02pm northguineahills:

Ok, leaving work, will catch you at home, Bronwyn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm BronwynB:

Avatar 8:05pm coelacanth∅:

ehem...hi Bronwyn and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm BronwynB:

hey coel!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm melinda:

On a comment board a few years ago someone asked if there were bands people avoided because the band's name irritated them too much, and I mentioned Death Cab for Cutie. It always sounded like an in-joke that needed explanation, but then another listener informed me that it was a Bonzo Dog Band song. I learn so much from WFMU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm doctorjazz:

My 19 year old daughter, a punk fan, tells me punk started in the mid 90's, with Green Day
Avatar 8:10pm coelacanth∅:

most band names with "big" in them will deter me from exploring.
Avatar 8:12pm glenn:

big blood is fabulous. big country was okay. i can't think of any other big bands. pun not intended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm BronwynB:

@doctorjazz: i have cousins around that age who are soooo jealous of me for having been born in the 90s, the age of classic rock, like nirvana
Avatar 8:13pm glenn:

classic rock = oldies.
Avatar 8:15pm coelacanth∅:

glenn -agreed exactly regarding both those. i'm blanking out a bit but i know at least 4 local bands with "big" in their names. ...and big head todd.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm melinda:

This sounded so familiar but I couldn't identify it until they sang the name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm doctorjazz:

Saw Peter Wolf this past Spring, he still puts on quite a show.
Avatar 8:16pm coelacanth∅:

...oh, big star. never mind!
Avatar 8:17pm glenn:

oh duh. big star. i'm an eejit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm melinda:

I love Androgynous. I didn't listen to a lot of Replacements but this reminds me of my freshman year in college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm BronwynB:

there's a great big world, but they're pretty obnoxious
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm BronwynB:

there is also a band called little big that i enjoy a fair bit
Avatar 8:21pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm melinda:

Who wouldn't be at least somewhat interested in this band? en.wikipedia.org...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm BronwynB:

"When we looked around, the first thing that caught our attention was an ass. It seemed firm and sturdy just like rock music, the music we like. And we didn’t want just a normal ass, so we named the band Big Ass."
Avatar 8:23pm northguineahills:

Classic rock for me is any rock from '96 or before, so my HS and early undergrad years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm BronwynB:

i love these guys
Avatar 8:23pm coelacanth∅:

maybe people with mediocre bands in my part of the world are for some reason prone to terrible band names with "big" in them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm BronwynB:

i don't know that my generation is gonna have much in the way of classic rock, because as a whole, we are not big rock fans. it's almost a bad word among a lot of us
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm BronwynB:

not me tho (obvs)
Avatar 8:24pm northguineahills:

There's alos a lot of mediocre rappers w/ 'Big' in their names. (not including biggie smalls).
Avatar 8:25pm coelacanth∅:

hahaha "Big Ass" that's great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:25pm BronwynB:

big daddy kane was cool
Avatar 8:26pm still b/p:

The Big Bopper.
Avatar 8:26pm northguineahills:

Go Hull City!
Avatar 8:28pm coelacanth∅:

yup i was into big daddy kane back in the day
...and there's big black.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm melinda:

Big Bottom was one of Spinal Tap's best songs.
Avatar 8:29pm coelacanth∅:

so you may delete my comment @8.10 if you want!
Avatar 8:29pm northguineahills:

There are no teams in London called "London", but a shit ton of teams in London (Arsenal, Chelsea, Cystal Palace, Tottenham, and West Ham United (At least in the Premier League).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm doctorjazz:

You can say anything on the stream.
Avatar 8:31pm northguineahills:

I first read the term Generation X in Newsweek in 1989 (yes, I was a nerdling kid).
Avatar 8:31pm glenn:

yeah, bronwyn. let your filth flag fly.
Avatar 8:32pm coelacanth∅:

the replacements had a lot of chutzpah
Avatar 8:32pm northguineahills:

The The?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm melinda:

@ngh I was interviewed by the University of Iowa newspaper for an article about Generation X around that time, it was kind of silly. It's funny to think that we were the generation in the spotlight back then.
Avatar 8:36pm coelacanth∅:

your mic break was quiet compared to the main stream and the music is almost inaudible compared to your mic break.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm BronwynB:

it is turned all the way up for real :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:39pm doctorjazz:

Funny, I'm listening out of my computer; music at usual stream volume, mike break was much louder. Is it different using the phone apps?
Anyway, finished in the office, time to head on home, maybe catch some more later, g'night.
Avatar 8:39pm northguineahills:

@melinda: I remember all of the 'slacker' Gen X articles in the early 90s. lultz!
Avatar 8:40pm northguineahills:

Luckily my home speakers can get loud enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm melinda:

Yeah, the slacker label was unfortunate and kind of ridiculous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm doctorjazz:

(channels don't seem quite right, though, can hear the balance off with the Beach Boys)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm doctorjazz:

Maybe it's just the version...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm BronwynB:

it could be. is the volume better now? i figured out it was the winamp player that was having problems
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm BronwynB:

that was a demo version so it could be that
Avatar 8:44pm northguineahills:

Hadn't heard this BB version, thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm BronwynB:

glad you liked it :D
  9:14pm Carmichael:

Heya Bronwyn, just cruising the stream and saw this. On location in Palm Springs this week. Sounding great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm melinda:

I like them too.
Avatar 9:15pm Little Danny:

Ha, yeah I only know CTD through THAT ONE SONG, too. Definitely preferred your selection
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm BronwynB:

@Carmichael: ooo that sounds fun!!

@Little Danny: yeah that whole first album is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good evening, Bronwyn. What's up sleeple?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm JtotheK:

salutations BronwynB, hello everyone.
Avatar 9:26pm Little Danny:

JR's VU obsessions come full circle. This is awesome!
Avatar 9:27pm northguineahills:

I was just talking to my friend Matt who did Gig Talk on the main stream at 6. It was the 2nd time I've ever called in live on-air to WFMU (doesn't include tix give aways). They have good banter, and a good concept. Hopefully it will grow. It's hard to banter when you're exhausted at work at almost 7pm, but it was fun,
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm BronwynB:

Hey Ken and JtotheK! Haha sleeple should totally be my collective listener squad name!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm BronwynB:

yeah they were great!!!
Avatar 9:27pm northguineahills:

How have I not heard this Jonathan Richman!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:28pm BronwynB:

my first time ever speaking on air on fmu was when i called into chris t's show on my 18th birthday. i was so nervous and i sound about 5 years old
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm BronwynB:

i love that jonathan richman song, i too am enthusiastic enough about the velvets that i would write a song about them if i could write songs
Avatar 9:29pm northguineahills:

This MBV kills me....

Now you sound like you might be able to vote (barely ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Once their show got the mic levels straightened out, it hit its stride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm BronwynB:

@ngh: i'll have you know i've voted in 2 elections! but i still cant rent a car
Avatar 9:31pm Little Danny:

@NGH: me too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Ken From Hyde Park:

They should broadcast out of Monty Hall occasionally and have some random bands perform a couple songs live, if they get themselves a regular spot.
Avatar 9:33pm northguineahills:

Yeah, Matt is an old friend of mine, I met him my first year in NYC. It was nice to hear a familiar voice from home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:34pm BronwynB:

thats so cool ngh :D
Avatar 9:36pm coelacanth∅:

hertz apparently would rent a 20-year-old a car. mucho dinero though
Avatar 9:38pm coelacanth∅:

i missed that j richman song, which i'd usually be thankful for but now i want to hear that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm BronwynB:

@coel: huh, i guess i could rent a car. probably shouldn't tho!

Christmas story?
Today, 5:12 PM - my sister out of state inquires by email what I'd sent for Xmas for my 10 year old niece, whose name I'd drawn in the family Kris Kringle system. She didn't know what it might have been among the unmarked items received.
6:02 - I describe the two parcels I sent, and said I was surprised at any mystery...each had a return address and a card enclosed.
6:42 -- I miraculously find the postal receipt, and check tracking online. Both delivered past USPS predicted date, but reported delivered together on porch on Boxing Day morning. I pass this info/memory jogger on to sister.
8:46 -- sister says items never made it to porch at reported date/time, but at about 8 tonight, after her message and my replies, both had appeared between her front doors!
Niece quite happy and eager to assemble 1000 piece puzzle -- she likes 'em -- and tackle the home-made root beer kit.

But...'sup with that timing?
Avatar 9:49pm northguineahills:

@coel: when I was 20, I had my gf flirt w/ the guy at the car rental center, and we had to put down a $200 deposit, plus $75 more. He did give us a bag a good ganja.
Avatar 9:50pm coelacanth∅:

i just noticed that vandals album title! funny shit! (get it- "funny shit"? nudge nudge)
...i was just today, as i often do, thinking about the circle jerks song. (live fast die young)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm BronwynB:

@ngh: that's amazing, i wish there were more random acts of ganja in this world
Avatar 9:52pm Little Danny:

Paid by the bag of ganja up next: wfmu.org... Hope to meet y'all there!
Avatar 9:52pm Little Danny:

Thanks for the great show Bronwyn!

Avatar 9:53pm coelacanth∅:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm BronwynB:

i have one more very short song though haha
