Avatar 4:59pm Fredericks:

Now, I hear Monk! Oh, it is Monk. Nice take.
Avatar 5:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

“What I like about Monk is that he's so logical.” - WyntonMarsalis
...about an Artist whose eccentricity is so often remarked upon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Ricky:

nice fidelity on that Mast track.
Avatar 5:03pm Irwin:

Just noticed that Duane played this Hutchings track earlier. Worth hearing again.
Avatar 5:04pm Irwin:

Thelonious Sphere Monk: worldgalaxyrecords.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 5:05pm Irwin:

Monk actually born late 2017, but the centenary lasts a year.
Avatar 5:06pm Jack:

I just returned a big picture book of Jheronimus Bosch to the library. Some of his various depictions of St. Christopher are even creepier than The Garden of Earthly Delights.
Avatar 5:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Monk born 1917 - same year widely recognized (rightly or wrongly) as year of 1st Jazz Recording...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm chris:

hey, Irwin and all. delucking to say this is a mighty badass bassline in this Hutchings cut.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm chris:

and... Dungen!
Avatar 5:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if you accept said Marsalis' assertion that even Rawk is historically but a branch on the JazzTree - it's a Centenary that's kind of a big deal - neatly divided in half by Summer of Love...& now Half a Century since '68 - EarthMonkey that followed '67's FireRam - & the Season of Assassinations...
Avatar 5:10pm Irwin:

"delucking"? Was that an auto-correct neologism?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm chris:

oops. *delurking* <sheepish grin> i hope i haven't jinxed myself by delucking. crikey.
Avatar 5:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...a painful extraction involving a turducken that is very bad FengShui...
Avatar 5:13pm TDK60:

RRN63- Yikes, a half century since '68.
Avatar 5:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I was in a schoolbasement band w/ a guy who was Lisa's bassplayer...which makes me...nothing very much...
Avatar 5:14pm Fredericks:

This sounds like Vince Guaraldi joined the Small Faces. I am referring to Dungen, I believe.
Avatar 5:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I was thinking they was a touch Zappaesque...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:16pm common:

good eve
Avatar 5:17pm Fredericks:

Nina sounds so tough. I love it!
Avatar 5:20pm Fredericks:

Irwin knows which Marsalis to play. As Art Blakey used to call him: Bradford.
  5:20pm flashbazbo:

Does Phil proctor sound like x Ray burns?
  5:21pm tuskandhusk:

I agree Fredricks
Avatar 5:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

So many wanna sound like the Trane Quartet.
Is this a problem? Not in the slightest...
Avatar 5:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

  5:32pm Tony Seymour:

Hawaii will do that to you every time
Avatar 5:36pm Irwin:

Then there was the time Randy California threw Neil Young off the stage at a Spirit reunion concert.
Avatar 5:36pm Listening Out There:

BTW, Irwin, I read an interview you did recently on Jim Flora. Very good interview. Flora's name turns up a time or two in "Cartoon County," which I just finished reading.
Avatar 5:37pm Irwin:

LOT: What is "Cartoon Country"?
Avatar 5:41pm Listening Out There:

Oops. "Cartoon County." Sorry for typo. Recent book by Cullen Murphy, whose dad drew "Prince Valiant" for a time. Many cartoonists lived in the same Connecticut area, and thus the book title. I never read Prince Valiant, but really enjoyed the book. Well written and, not surprisingly, good illustrations. Link: www.powells.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm chris:

although current US politics makes *us* seem like a cartoon country
Avatar 5:47pm Listening Out There:

@chris: A recent bumper sticker I spotted: "Elect a Clown. Expect a Circus."
Avatar 5:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I was thinking an Andy Kaufman performance...
Avatar 5:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 5:49pm Fredericks:

Thanks for more Monk, Irwin. Maybe someday some NRBQ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Michael 98145:

- never tire of hearing this -
Avatar 5:50pm Irwin:

My typo, not yours, LOT. I'll check out the book. I know Flora was friendly with lots of artists, illustrators, and cartoonists in CT over the years. There's lots of correspondence and shared art in the Flora archives. Joseph Low, R.O. Blechman, Crockett Johnson, many others.
Avatar 5:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
