Afternoon, Cheyenne and all!
Avatar 3:01pm Sem:

Pass the mason jar likker, down home tunes coming up.
Hiya, Cheyenne, ljfw.
Avatar 3:01pm βrian:

Oh my, I've stumbled into this show again. Serendipity-doo-dah.
  3:02pm melinda:

Hi Chey
Avatar 3:02pm Cheyenne:

Howdy y'all! Thanks for listenin' during today's party from RAINY LOS ANGELES!
Avatar 3:03pm βrian:

They call my pantry the mason lodge. Tomatoes, liquor, dilly beans, you name it.
Avatar 3:03pm Cheyenne:

Do you make your own liquor, βrian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:07pm fleep:

First time here, greetings from the Valley, Cheyenne. A cell just opened up here, pretty good one.
Avatar 3:07pm Cheyenne:

Ahoy, fleep! Thanks for swimmin' by
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Dilly beans! I just finished the last of a jar at lunch today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm doctorjazz:

Cool stuff, up my alley, hi Cheyenne and Listerers!
  3:08pm Psychspaniolos:

Greetings from Greece to Cheyenne and all
Avatar 3:09pm Cheyenne:

I haven't had a Dilly Bean but I'm guessing they're pickled green beans?
Avatar 3:10pm Cheyenne:

Also HI Wendy, drjazz, and Psychspaniolos!
Avatar 3:12pm βrian:

Some times we marinate fruit in liquor, but that's it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Cheyenne: Yup! I don't know about anywhere else, but people take them pretty seriously in my part of New England. Green beans grow well here, so it's a good way to can them for cold-weather enjoyment.
Avatar 3:14pm βrian:

Yes, dilly beans are green beans pickled with garlic, red pepper flakes, dill, and coriander. A crunchy delight, and nothing beats having one in a martini.
Avatar 3:15pm Cheyenne:

Cool! I am familiar with all manner of weird Appalachian preserved foods but not so much the Nor'easter varieties. Salt corn, shucky beans/leather britches, et al.
Avatar 3:15pm βrian:

Coincidentally, the first time I had dilly beans was at a sort-of commune in Plainfield, VT.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Brian: Something beats dilly beans with a martini. Dilly beans with CHEESE. Duh. :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Brian: Plainfield? Was it the Radical Faeries?
Avatar 3:16pm northguineahills:

Never heard of dilly beans, but I love all things pickled (as I nosh on some cabbage kimchi, oh, and I have some Russian dill pickled cucumbers in the fridge [I forgot to take lunch, so I'm having a really late lunch break])
Avatar 3:16pm βrian:

No, the New Hamburger. (Yes, really.)
Avatar 3:17pm Cheyenne:

I like daikon kimchi a lot. It's crunchier!
  3:17pm melinda:

What are leather britches?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Wendy del Formaggio:

Brian: I guess a new hamburger is better than an old hamburger.
  3:18pm melinda:

"Sort-of commune" haha
Avatar 3:18pm northguineahills:

The Asian supermarket here is limited to cabbage and carrot kimchis, at least they're home made.
Avatar 3:19pm βrian:

Hah, I found a reference here:
Avatar 3:19pm Cheyenne:

Leather britches are dried green or pole beans that you tie on a string to hang in your kitchen until you need them. I guess someone thought they looked like lederhosen!
Avatar 3:20pm βrian:

I take it one has to soak those beans before using.
Avatar 3:21pm Cheyenne:

Soak and/or slow cook for a long time to rehydrate, yes.
  3:25pm melinda:

@Brian I can't look up the link on my device but looks like it sort of coincides with the time my late husband spent in Plainfield at Goddard.
Avatar 3:27pm βrian:

Oh then I'm sure he knew these folks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I like Bob's Country Bunker, where they have both kinds of music: country and western.
Avatar 3:30pm βrian:

Louisville? You must know Floyds Knobs. (Never been there but I know it vicariously.)
Avatar 3:31pm Cheyenne:

Floyds Knobs is in southern Indiana, really the only part of Indiana with any hills. It's where the last Ice Age glaciers stopped. It's purty.
Avatar 3:32pm Cheyenne:

Also, a place further down in the state: Knob Creek (a place Lincoln hung out for a couple years, and the namesake of a bourbon that's pretty good). There's a ... knob... and a ... creek there.
Avatar 3:33pm Cheyenne:

And for the uninitiated: a 'knob' is a high, rounded hill. Appalachia is full of 'em.
Avatar 3:33pm βrian:

Where I live in Wisconsin is near the edge of the glaciated terrain. What a difference a few billion pounds of ice can make!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33pm Stanley:

Howdy Cheyenne and party go-ers.
Got to say the first set was very good stuff.
Avatar 3:34pm Cheyenne:

Thanks Stanley!
Avatar 3:36pm northguineahills:

I was born in Appalachia (WV), but everyone my grandparents' generation have died off, so, I know no one left.

Long Island is a glacial moraine. The furthest extent of the glaciation on the east coast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I, too, was raised on what was an ancient shoreline. The location of Lake Agassiz in the upper midwest.
Avatar 3:38pm βrian:

Grandpa's Knob is a feature in Chittenden County, VT.
Avatar 3:39pm βrian:

Is it time for the squirrel jokes yet?
Avatar 3:39pm Cheyenne:

I love replacing the word "girl" with "squirrel" at karaoke.
Avatar 3:41pm βrian:

You didn't, SquirrelFriend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm doctorjazz:

Great stuff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Parq:

Squirrel, you'll be a woman soon.

I want a squirrel just like the squirrel that married dear old dad.

Yeah, I can see where that would be a kick.
Avatar 3:43pm Cheyenne:

It adds a woodland flavor to any pop hit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

You go, squirrel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Parq:

It also adds a wonderful flavor to stews, so I'm told.
Avatar 3:44pm βrian:

For what it's worth, I favor braising the little buggers in a red wine porcine sauce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Parq:

Go away, little squirrel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Cheyenne and FMA
(Free Music Animals)
  3:46pm melinda:

I saw a squirrel's breath once while on a nature walk. It was really neat.
Avatar 3:46pm Sem:

Squirrels just wanna have fun.
Avatar 3:47pm βrian:

Tom Waits — Jersey Squirrel
Avatar 3:47pm Sem:

...swimming in a red wine porcine sauce.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Parq:

That's it, call my agent. I'm changing the name of the album to "Squirrel's Breath On A Nature Walk."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Parq:

This thread has got to represent the majority of all the times in my life that I've typed the word "squirrel".
  3:48pm melinda:

Avatar 3:48pm Cheyenne:

Gotta start somewhere Parq!
Avatar 3:48pm βrian:

Squirrel Gone Wild.

(Well, dah!)
Avatar 3:48pm northguineahills:

I switch the personal pronouns around in karaoke, so (via whitney houston ends up as "youuuuu... will always looooove meeeee!"
Avatar 3:49pm Cheyenne:

Haha, brilliant @northguineahills
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Riot Skwrrrl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm coelacanth∅:

i missed whyever all this squirrel chatter, but...i.kinja-img.com...
my one and only superhero.
Avatar 3:54pm Cheyenne:

coelacanth∅ I haven't read it but heard good things about Squirrel Girl!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Parq:

Coales, that looks like a fabulous web comic.
Avatar 3:54pm Sem:

These guys be crevulating mighty good.
Avatar 3:56pm Sem:

Time flies when you're country and western-ing.
Thanks, Cheyenne, see you and all next time the rodeo rolls by.
Avatar 3:57pm Cheyenne:

Thanks Sem for stickin' around! It's been a fun hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57pm coelacanth∅:

Sem lasso that rodeo and bring it with you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Stanley:

Well, this was one enjoyable hour. Thanks Cheyenne and the team at the FMA.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm listener james from westwood:

Whooo! How was that hour over so quickly? Fun stuff!
Avatar 3:58pm βrian:

There are some who think Black Squirrels are a separate species, but they are wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Cheyenne
