Hello Andy, so you moniker is slightly off.

Hello, Brian.

Once in the radio business, a rookie news reader referred to a local thug as having gone by the MONK-ee-ur of Charlie Tripps.

Any Krishna-core today?

Getting down to -3C/27F here at 29 degrees latitude. Frosty for down here. (wearing a jacking indoors, as I refuse to put on the heat until it's below freezing). Thank Cthulhu it's actually getting cold, I miss it! I wish it would snow!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm fred:

Good afternoon Bill and listeners. I won't get much of this show: I'll leave in an hour or so to go see friends playing. They always put on costumes, rarely using the same twice. I wonder what it will be this time
Avatar 12:29pm Sem Chumbo:

@ngh: in the course of sourcing botanicals for a craft distillery I do some work for, I found a Japanese bitter orange tree living at a local nursery. Native to Northern Japan and Korea, it is the root stock for most Florida orange trees because of it's tolerance to low temperature.

@fred: what are the odds it will be the garb of Krishna Consciousness devotees?
Avatar 12:31pm Jay/London:

hi Bill and all am a bit late as just had a Christmas dinner with 27 people who live in my block
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm fred:

Avatar 12:43pm Jay/London:

stanley not much better the next two days don't look good high winds and more snow ... even here its gone down to...- 3 c
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Stanley:

@Sem: my whisky society has a single malt in from Goa, India. Very pricey but I'll have to try a dram. In the cupboard for the festiveries is a stonking Pedro Ximenez sherry, some bourbon barrel aged beers and some Polish cherry brandy-thing.
  12:48pm melinda:

Hi bill
Avatar 12:49pm Bill Mac:

Do you guys no anything about balut? Back in the old days my buddy Ben would threaten to trade me a couple balut eggs for one of my Moms Peanut Butter n Jelly sammiches. Apparently it's an egg with a developed chicken in it- best eaten at about 16 days of gestation... anybody hungry?
Avatar 12:49pm Bill Mac:

Hi M'Linda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm fred:

@Sem: no, it's too expensive for me these days. I did get a nice Port Askaig lately, but that's not a discovery
Avatar 12:51pm Sem:

Ah, bourbon-barrel aged! Man, Jack Daniels has some of its barrels in every small distillery, winery, brewery and cidery in North America...I shudder to think how much Jack goes down American gullets every year.

Bill: Bryce put me onto that. Ummmm, no thanks.
Avatar 12:51pm northguineahills:

@Sem: wow, cool! I'm about 75 km north of where commercial orange groves start, but you see a few yards here and there that have citrus trees.

@Stanley: Gainesville is equidistant from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic (about 95 km from either) and a womping 60m above sea level, so, it usually gets below freezing 5-7 times per year, but usually not until January. What's unusualy is that it's 12C in the afternoon and it usually gets back up to at least 18C when it gets cold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Stanley:

Bill. Ugh, that's a bit too freaky for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm coelacanth∅:

Bill, that doesn't make me hungry!
  12:54pm melinda:

That egg thing sounds gross.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Brian in UK:

Swordfish tonight in this house. You got about an hour to get over here.
  12:54pm rbrt:

lol is the egg like cooked at least?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Stanley:

@Sem: sale of ex-bourbon barrels is a big industry.
Avatar 12:55pm Bill Mac:

@Stanley I heard it's good with a single malt....
Avatar 12:55pm Bill Mac:

@rbrt - I was so twisted about it I never asked
Avatar 12:55pm Sem:

Indeed, Stanley. Unlike, I think, Goa-sourced single malt whisky.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Stanley:

Bill, behave!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Brian in UK:

Bill sounds like a Dr Seuss word. The brown Baluts bungled the bank blag.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm coelacanth∅:

Sem, i've always been thankful that some people have such shitty taste in whiskey (or, rather, are easily sucked into thinking a particular product is cool because of the marketing) because of the good things that can be done with jack daniels barrels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Brian in UK:

Here is a naughty site.
Avatar 12:58pm Sem:

True that, coel. The rum produced at the little place I'm associated with is something of a sensation here, where one bottle of three spirits sold is rum of one kind or another. The product is aged for a year in JD barrels, and it is a magic transformation.
Avatar 12:58pm Bill Mac:

I could go for a nice haggis...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Stanley:

Time for a cold one, I think.
Avatar 12:58pm Sem:

No such thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Stanley:

A beer not a bath.
Avatar 12:59pm Sem:

Nor a haggis.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Brian in UK:

A house is not a motel (Arthur Lee)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Stanley:

Sem, how could you? I'd be happy to put you right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00pm coelacanth∅:

isn't that the song the moodys took the riff from for nights in white satin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm coelacanth∅:

(...never mind. that was "signed, d.c.".)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Brian in UK:

@coel, I think the version on Out Here is superior to the one on the first album.
Avatar 1:04pm Sem:

OK, you'll get your chance, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Brian in UK:

Bill; This Wheels on Fire was co-written with Rick Danko.
  1:05pm melinda:

Did someone also cover it in the 80s?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm coelacanth∅:

really. i've never heard that, Brian. i will check that out asap!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm fred:

@Sem: I once had a whisky aged in a rum barrel (one of Ichiro's card series) and wasn't convinced it was a good idea. The rum side was too strong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Brian in UK:

Was it The Beat?
  1:07pm melinda:

Brian I think so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Stanley:

@fred: I'd agree on the rum. However, there's some good experimentation happening up here with exotic barrels.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm coelacanth∅:

yeah i'd try that rum from jd barrels - even though i pretty much swore off rum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Stanley:

Bill breaks out the rum music, right on cue
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm fred:

@Stanley: I'm all for experimentation, so I embrace failure. To me, if you never fail, you're not really experimenting. I can how aging rum in JD barrels could work better as well
Avatar 1:11pm Sem:

Gotta step out for a bit, have to look into balut-inspired haggis aged in rum barrels which formerly held Goa malt whisky. Back in a trice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm coelacanth∅:

let's talk about tequila next
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm melinda:

Yes, it was the English Beat. My other guess was XTC, for some reason I confuse the two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Stanley:

Sem, I think you'll be some time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm coelacanth∅:

(Sem'll be back in a tripe.)
Avatar 1:13pm Bill Mac:

@Mel I would know if it was XTC - it's one of my unhealthy obsessions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Stanley:

Love this Kamasi Washington. My gig of 2016
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm coelacanth∅:

i need to cook up some breakfast. i'll see if i can't un-do the damage done by the "food" conversation here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm melinda:

I like Lupe's hair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm melinda:

coel are you a night owl?
Avatar 1:19pm Bill Mac:

I saw Kamasi on a Tavis Smiley's talk show - then I saw the CD - 3 of them to be exact!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Stanley:

Bill, I caught Drumbo last month on his farewell tour. Great set list.
Picked a copy of the now hard-to-find Bat Chain Puller cd at the gig.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm coelacanth∅:

kind of,melinda, but really i just never slept much. i like every time of day and night almost equally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm melinda:

I was looking forward to snow but now it's feeling a bit gloomy.

@Stanley Loved seeing them in 2011. Great band, although I miss Denny Walley on guitar

My condolences, too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm melinda:

I'm sorry about your friend.
Avatar 1:38pm Sem:

Balut in a cone! I can see the stall on the Boardwalk even now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Stanley:

My very good friend, who has sadly passed, used to order the chicken's feet soup at Chinese restaurants. If it wasn't on the menu, he'd have a word with the kitchen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm coelacanth∅:

i have one good filipino friend, and another that left us a few years ago, and (for what it's worth) they both do/did seem to like to get a rise out of people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Stanley:

Fantastic show. Two amazing drummers.
  1:42pm rw:

Balut? Never heard of it. But I’ll take a cone full. Sorry about your buddy, man.
Avatar 1:44pm Bill Mac:

He was a class act. Never mentioned the illness while I was with him
Avatar 1:49pm northguineahills:

Been around, just piecing together broken furniture that the movers broke. Time to cook brinner!
Avatar 1:49pm Bill Mac:

... and he'd be laughing at your disgust of unborn poultry
Avatar 1:50pm Bill Mac:

Brinner? The meal between breakfast and dinner... I think there's already a name for that.
Avatar 1:50pm northguineahills:

There are a few Filipino restaurants in Jacksonville, a bit over an hour drive from here, but, I doubt they would have balut if the Filipino restaurants in NYC didn't have it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Stanley:

Bill, you're one of the few people I know who appreciates the joy of Alex Harvey's music. Thanks for that.
Avatar 1:56pm Bill Mac:

My pleasure man! Me and Alex go back to high school. I hfound him in a cut out bin - so much for people's taste in music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Stanley:

Yeah, you're on a roll. Love The Mekons. Also like what Jon Langford and Sally Timms have put out since.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm coelacanth∅:

i had planned to get the bus downtown later, grab some lemon-ginger-echinacea juice from the store and walk the mile to the pub to mix whiskey with it. now the snow has probably changed that. oh well. guess i'll save some money today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Stanley:

@ coelacanth∅: you got a heavy cold? Is that your secret remedy?
Avatar 2:05pm Jay/London:

so where do we put a angel if the tree is upside down ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Stanley:

@Jay: doesn't bear thinking about.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm coelacanth∅:

no Stanley, no cold! but it's a good defense against dehydration and hangovers. (and tastes great; and no corn syrup)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm coelacanth∅:

why would someone hang a christmas tree upside-down? and why aren't those people quarantined!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Stanley:

@coelacanth∅: We got plenty of restaurants where you bring your own bottle and bars that allow you to bring your food but I've never heard of a place that does bring your own mixers.
Avatar 2:11pm Jay/London:

maybe we should start one stanley :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm coelacanth∅:

haha yeah i'm special!
i think if everyone started doing it the bar owner would start charging more for it.
Avatar 2:12pm Sem:

Grinning whilst in the kitchen to the Possum. That's some expert free-form spinnin' there, DJ Bill. Thanks! Now pass the whisky and the kets to the lawnmower, I'm going to Town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Stanley:

We could start a place where you can bring your own bottle, food and mixers. Wait.....that's called throwing a party.
Avatar 2:13pm Bill Mac:

Is it town time already?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm coelacanth∅:

i've often thought about opening a pub with a juice bar and both typical bar snacks and also more wholesome ones.
Avatar 2:15pm Sem:

You're right, there's still some in the bottle, and I gotta get the angle grinder out and cut this bracelet off my ankle before I head out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm coelacanth∅:

oh no Sem!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Doug Schulkind:

This radio show makes zzzzzzero sense to me.
Avatar 2:17pm Bill Mac:

Me too! Who's responsible for this?!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm melinda:

@coelecanth I'd go there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Stanley:

That's a very odd cover! A sort of party game?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm coelacanth∅:

well, at least the pub i go to has kombucha tea, and some cane sugar-sweetened sodas and ginger beer. it's a step in a good direction anyway. i know at least one person who never drinks alcohol there, but still has a good time.
Avatar 2:25pm northguineahills:

Always dig Deerhoof!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:25pm melinda:

It reminds me of a Thurber drawing.
Avatar 2:25pm Bill Mac:

Reminds of a scene from the Human Centipede
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:27pm melinda:

I wish there was a pub like that near me. There is a kombucha bar that also serves cider, so that's similar. Not walking distance though.
Avatar 2:29pm Sem:

Diggin' this very much.
Avatar 2:29pm Bill Mac:

Found this one in the new bin today.
Avatar 2:32pm Sem:

I see it is Corsican music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32pm Stanley:

(The mind boggles)
On that note, I must wish everyone a very good afternoon/evening. We're off out to hunt down some food. Great show, Bill. Great chat. Really looking forward to Christmas day. Perfect for our post-lunch pleasure.
Avatar 2:33pm Sem:

See ya later, Stanley!
Avatar 2:33pm Bill Mac:

For sure Stanley! Hope you stop by for the festivities!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

melinda there's i think 4 places in this village that have kombucha. it's the good marketing of one particular woman.
strangely the expensive tiny "wine bar" has "calmbucha" (the trade name) for $4./pretty good-sized beakerful, served with dignity; while the dive bar has it $4./ a small glass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm coelacanth∅:

take care Stanley

new paltz,ny (but i live just outside of it now, in a town that's at least as anti-progressive as new paltz is progressive.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm melinda:

There's a SUNY there, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Fran:

Bit of a wistful elegiac feel to this set, Bill. Contemplative, even. We lose connections to people who find places in our hearts, it's feels bad to have to let them go.
See you Christmas morning, and I am hoping all ^ above, too. Shiny side up going home. Later, all.

I know Sem, it feels uncomfortable confronting it, but it's got to be done. You hate to lose the good ones especially. Thanks for the eloquence to say what I cannot...

Later man, see you Christmas

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm Brian in UK:

Bill, sad to hear of your friends' demise. Some times we lose track of people then they come back into our lives and the friendship is stronger because we kind of pick up the pieces and do not have to start over again. The old jokes and such are all there to be enjoyed afresh. It does remind us of our mortality more than someone of another generation.
The Philipinos I have worked with have been lovely people, caring and thoughtful. Onward we go. X
