  4:11pm JasonInBoston:

IN MY TENAMENT! I have a good memory of playing this one when we all DJ'd together in that basement club (where the power kept cutting out). It sounded killer in that room! Remember that, Sheila?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Passaic River Blues:

I think the first time I ever heard about Jackie Shane was from Cecile on the WFMU boards. This "In My Tenement" is fabulous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm DC:

Loved that In My Tenament, great production and performance
  4:13pm P-90:

Woo- That was one really romantic-sounding tenement
Avatar 4:13pm northguineahills:

I don't think I've heard of anyone refer their domicile or any building as a tenement outside of a historical context or visiting the Tenement Museum.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm DC:

Enjoying this housing themed combination of tracks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm The Oscar:

This set proves, once and for all, that you CAN dance about architecture.
  4:17pm P-90:

Love for Julie Grant's version, with latin backbeat and pizzicato strings
Avatar 4:18pm djsheilab:

I was wondering who might notice this peculiar theme :) Yay DC + The Oscar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm JtotheK:

Avatar 4:20pm dale:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm JtotheK:

(also re: tenement - very glad that the beat up, cracked 45 by jackie shane that i had played through without skips, nice and loud, a few times before it was retired from play for fear of breaking itself or needles.)

That'd be a never-before set that might give the the earth a wtf wobble.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm The Oscar:

Not long after she died, I remember driving past a gas station deep in the woods of western Mass with a huge, nondescript sign out front that just said "I MISS ROSEMARY CLOONEY." It was both heartwarming and oddly unsettling.
Avatar 4:43pm djsheilab:

Thanks for all your great tips everyone! still b/p—that interior theme is bonkers in the very best way.
  4:45pm Mandy:

after that "room" set I wanna listen to Oingo Boingo's "Private Life".....somebody get me out of here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm DC:

Oh, I'm a sucker for this L'imperatrice beat. Love that easy deep bass. Another great new song I didn't know was out there
Avatar 4:47pm still b/p:

Love her music, but bless her heart....with the snowballing frequency of White Christmas showings, we get to see and see again that Clooney -- especially up against Vera-Ellen -- wasn't meant for that particular sort of song and dance production.
Avatar 4:49pm dale:

melinda, it was a christmas show. sadly she was so large a couple of handlers had to help her up on stage. but her voice was so nice. my wife and i shared a tiny table with an older couple not five feet away from the stage. he turned out to be the former president of revlon and i had worked for the agency that did some of their work so i had something to talk about. after the show i bought them a drink at the bar which impressed him to no end (i'm sure his retirement package was more than i'll make in a lifetime). we got a christmas card from them inviting us to north carolina where they had a summer home. i don't know if my wife ever responded.

Damn... I'd like to hear just an acapella version of this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Itzall Ablurr:

Wow. "Le Beirut"; beautiful. Can't help but hearing echoes of Greg Lake's "C'est La Vie", another gorgeous song of longing.
Avatar 4:53pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm DC:

Right with you there djsheilab! Artwork can lift humanity from ignorance
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Rob Kopp:

Classical. That's what it was. I thought I know this Fair song, but I couldn't find the English words. No wonder: it was an instrumental: Concerto d'Aranjuez
  4:56pm michael z:

This is a totally cool record. I️ love the vibes and the jazzy singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Adrian in London:

@JtotheK You know Rodrigo's widow HATED Miles's version?
Avatar 4:58pm Will from Seattle:

Fairuz & the songwriters she worked with did several songs based on Western classical pieces, like this one which is based on a Mozart compostion
  4:59pm michael z:

And what a fantastic segue. You are the best Sheila.

Good morning Early Morning in Seoul!
Avatar 5:22pm CTEmpress:

I so enjoy hearing new releases: these are records I would not hear otherwise. Thank you! And next week will be killer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Rob Kopp:

Start of atmospheric records next week, so there is a follow up? In 2 weeks I'll be in London for a Kinks weekend, so I can't listen then live to SBB (good we have the archives). Friday 24 I'm in pub The Clissold Arms in Muswell Hill (opposite of the house where the Davies bothers lived) and Saturday 25 in pub Edward Lear for 2 sing-a-longs with The Kinks Fan Kollektive, and Sunday 26 in The Boston Arms for the annual fan meeting (with the Kast Off Kinks)
Avatar 5:23pm djsheilab:

Thanks for saying that CTEmpress! Finding the new songs is one of my favorite parts of doing this show.
  5:25pm Early Morning in Seoul:

@djsheilab Thanks! I'm meeting with my friend today who is this nice old lady that sells Korean LPs from the 60s - 90s. If there's anything you're looking for let me know!
Avatar 5:26pm Layet Johnson:

Go Sheila B! This Mondo Grosso is so sick!
Avatar 5:26pm djsheilab:

Rob Kopp—I'm going to be doing the show in installments, cos three hours of atmosphere might make it difficult to operate machinery.
Avatar 5:27pm djsheilab:

Thanks Layet Johnson!
  5:27pm Early Morning in Seoul:

Yeah Taylor Dayne!
Avatar 5:28pm CTEmpress:

I second the Taylor Dayne: my hair bumped up and I spontaneously burst into mad dance moves
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Rob Kopp:

@Sheila: you right. Especially for us listeners in Europe (Friday evening) and SBB-ers like Early Morning in Seoul
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Passaic River Blues:

@Early Morning in Seoul: two weeks ago Joe McGasko played a Korean folk cover of "Scarborough Fair" from 1970 that was outrageously good. The album cover can be seen here: www.wfmu.org...

The name of the group was listed as "Tuwa e Muwa" but I don't think that's an accurate rendering. If you ever come across this record in your record-buying journeys, consider checking it out.
Avatar 5:30pm djsheilab:

Early Morning in Seoul! I would love to send you a couple of wants. That's so nice of you. Would you mind emailing me at sheilab (at) wfmu.org so I have your email address? Thanks!
  5:35pm Early Morning in Seoul:

@Passaic River Blues - looks like a greatest hits from 뚜와 에 무와 (I think it is meant more like "Toi et Moi"). Don't know if I'd have the budget to get it. Their albums are super expensive: http://www.lptown.co.kr/product/category.php?Field=artist&Mode=search&String=%B6%D1%BF%CD%BF%A1%B9%AB%BF%CD%20(Toi%20et%20Moi) ~$100-$200!
  5:36pm Early Morning in Seoul:

@djsheilab - Will do!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm chris:

Arabic and Persian language tracks today! bring back the mid-east love, Sheila! woo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Passaic River Blues:

@Early Morning in Seoul: thank you for the information! I agree--for $200, I'd forego the vinyl and stick with a CD.
Avatar 5:41pm ncjay:

I've been buying this Yumi Zouma one track at a time as I've heard them but this convinces me to just go for the whole album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Cooh John:

Hi djsheilab. Starting my weekend with you and my fellow sophisticates. Nice mood your setting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm maestroso:

Taylor Dayne! I saw her live in Ocean City MD back around '89. Totally R&B concert. She was excellent.
  5:54pm TheoC:

Your show is amazing... I moved from Brooklyn a year ago to the woods of up north, mountain lions! I'm so happy I was able to bring your beautiful program with me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Rob Kopp:

Thanks again Sheila. The alarm goes off in 7 hours for day #2 of the record fair in Utrecht. On 11/11 at 11:11 we have the presentation of our new EP by The Fallouts. www.discogs.com...
  5:54pm Early Morning in Seoul:

To add to the Taylor Dayne stories: In Seoul, while crate digging at this one music and record booth manned by this really old guy, snagged the 12" Single for ~$1!
Avatar 5:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks sheila!

@TheoC: I moved from Brooklyn down south a year ago. WFMU makes me feel like I'm home.
