Avatar 12:04pm Duane:

Good Afternoon everyone..including you BronwynB:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Mister Dobalina:

Ahhh, what an awesome song, not my favorite version playing, but good nonetheless.
Avatar 12:10pm PKNY:

Saw Joe Bataan completely slay live this summer (he even did a cover of Rufus/Chaka's "Ain't Nobody"!), and then immediately hunted down a copy of "AfroFilipino".
Avatar 12:10pm mb:

Minded the gap and ready for the journey. Hey All!
Avatar 12:11pm northguineahills:

what was the name of that weird cable access show of that pimped out weird white guy that had adventures in the Bronx and had Joe Bataan as a reoccurring character? Damn that show was fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Mister Dobalina:

@PKNY - that sounds pretty freakin' cool.
@norrthguinehills - If you do found out the name of the show, please pass along the info.
Avatar 12:18pm northguineahills:

Mister Dobalina: the rat in the hamster wheel that is my brain is finally spinning, it was "Baron Ambrosia"!
Avatar 12:18pm northguineahills:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Alejandroool:

sounding fresh Duane
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Polyus:

If you can find it, check out the documentary We Like It Like That, about the Latin boogaloo wave of the 60s. There is some pretty great interview footage with Joe Bataan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm Polyus:

Avatar 12:23pm Brian Battles:

Second best radio station on Earth ... right after WWUH where I make noise! Keep it up, fellow crazies!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Passaic River Blues:

King Remembered in Time. Very nice cut.
Avatar 12:24pm Cecile:

Polyus, and Trouble did a great boogaloo show with Joe Bataan and others guesting.
Avatar 12:25pm Cecile:

So is this big KRIT new or did I sleep on this one, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Passaic River Blues:

@Cecile: you're right! She did two of them, I believe, with Harvey Arverne and Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Polyus:

Thanks for the tip Cecile, I didn't know that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Passaic River Blues:

@Cecile: The KRIT is brand new.
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

they all were having the time of their life. For all the records they sold, they don't get near enough credit.
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

Whew. It's really good.
  12:27pm queems:

i love this one
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

Now this sounds like Pantha du Prince with Marvin Gaye singing.
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

which means it is excellent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Passaic River Blues:

These are Trouble's boogaloo shows:
Avatar 12:29pm Cecile:

Duane, is the whole big KRIT album good?
Avatar 12:29pm Jshatan:

Late to the Train because of work, darn it! Meetings - who needs'em? ;-)
Avatar 12:29pm Duane:

Cecile: Big Krit album is a double CD. And It's amazing..one of the best of the year!
Avatar 12:30pm Cecile:

I saw Sleepy Brown was on it, and that's usually a must-buy for me.
  12:31pm dr.doppler:

Killlllen it right nowwww
Avatar 12:34pm Jshatan:

Seconded on the Sleepy Brown! Will check that out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Kat in Chicago:

Duane, I understand you're acquainted with Devin Dare, please tell him/her/them that this is a nice mix ;-)
  12:42pm dr.doppler:

What you talking over rn
Avatar 12:42pm northguineahills:

This Ex-Cops reminds of the Charlatans UK or Stone Roses for some reason.
Avatar 12:42pm Cecile:

Yes, Kat. You know what would be great? An interview!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm chris:

hi, Duane and everyone. been loving this first set.
long live Moondog the WFMU Mascot!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Aaron Working In Newark:

Nice tune there...sounded like they used a singing bowl.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Kat in Chicago:

Haha, Cecile, I know right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Kat in Chicago:

Moondog is adorable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Aaron Working In Newark:

Agree on Moondog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Passaic River Blues:

Good for TI!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Polyus:

I really liked that Jamila Woods song from last week, gotta look for that record.
Avatar 12:48pm glenn:

moondog's gotta be a democrat, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Kat in Chicago:

S4L is best cult ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Kat in Chicago:

What the hell is "raw wine"?
Avatar 12:51pm Cecile:

non pasteurized, I bet.
Not for me. I'm not into listeria.

Moondog is past cute.
Avatar 12:52pm Beast of Boonton:

youtube to mp3 is a conversion site - I heard...
Avatar 12:52pm Duane:

Raw wine aka Natural Wine:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Kat in Chicago:

Oh, fine, I'll google it
Avatar 12:54pm Duane:

dr. doppler: Stuyvesants thestuyvesants.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 12:54pm Cecile:

Isn't wine like great coffee in that to have the best product, you are gardening organically?
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

so yeah. What I was saying. No additives. More stuff done by hand.
Avatar 12:57pm Cecile:

Does the amazing peach wine that my father-in-law's friend Sterch used to make and bring over in a Mason jar count as natural?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Kat in Chicago:

I'm more of a beer person, not sure I'd know the difference. Cecile, I reckon so.
Avatar 12:58pm Duane:

My wife is a natural wine expert, she was the F & B director for a big farm to table Restaurant in Williamsburg. She's deep in that scene & has beenhelping me navigate through it. We were at a mead bar in Bushwick last SUnday:) Delicious!
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

I'm good with the difference in beers. The best wine is the one someone buys for me at any given time.
Avatar 12:59pm Cecile:

They make some great mead in Wisconsin. Some of it's sweet, but the best isn't.
Avatar 1:00pm Cecile:

Sterch, RIP, your time finally came...
Avatar 1:04pm glenn:

if it's a singles bar, is it a mead market?
Avatar 1:05pm northguineahills:

Duane, you're making nostalgic for my old hood... Gainesville is great, but it ain't no Bushwick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Kat in Chicago:

I haven't had a lot of mead, but someone took me to B. Nektar's taproom on a Detroit visit and I liked some of that. I had expected everything to be cloyingly sweet but that wasn't the case.
Avatar 1:06pm northguineahills:

Hugh Masekela... check Carl Craig...check pure beauty....check!
Avatar 1:06pm Cecile:

Mead making has gotten better. IME it was either sickeningly sweet or kind of bitter and waxy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Kat in Chicago:

That's a cool specialty for Mrs.Train to be involved with, Duane :) I should be back in Bushwick this spring, if not sooner, and I'll find that mead bar and check it out.
  1:11pm Julie:

Duane! We are listening in Painting class at University of Albany!! (Tamara Z. sent you a page from one of my students journals). Please say hello to us!!!!
Avatar 1:13pm Duane:

Hi Julie!! That was such a sweet drawing! Will do:)
  1:18pm queems:

i've favorited every track in this set so far
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm Passaic River Blues:

Early 90s Detroit invariably gets my head snapping.
Avatar 1:21pm northguineahills:

The title of the Phase 1 track really delivers, and it's new one to me!
Avatar 1:26pm Cecile:

I think Maynard Ferguson played every college in the US at least twice.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Stevel:

Cecile: And most high schools.
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Cool, I saw Maynard Ferguson at the Fargo Civic Center in 1981.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Passaic River Blues:

I just can't remember which J-Live song contains lyrics about Indian Quad and other SUNY Albany references. You know, for the art students.
  1:41pm krip:

obama's mama really loved this song
Avatar 1:49pm northguineahills:

Well, that set helped me finish my project before the deadline w/ 12 minutes to spare. Thanks Duane! Say hi to Supajen and KnifeHandChop the next time they come by from T-town!
  1:53pm Frikki:

Wow, that HaHO track was something else.
Avatar 1:56pm Duane:

Frikki: It's Freaky, Frikki:) Soorry..couldn't resist!!
Avatar 2:02pm Cecile:

I'm made of iced coffee and Cheezits.
  2:03pm gauche knee:

That set was siick! Had to take a standing lunch that involved 15 mns of (not-so) serious moves. You’re 2 good 2 us, Duane!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Kat in Chicago:

Never been to a 718 Sessions party - sounds like something I should incorporate into a NYC visit.
Avatar 2:13pm Cecile:

this is a great cover!
Avatar 2:13pm Cecile:

It's like ESG meets Hall and Oates.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm Kat in Chicago:

Haha I like this part ("I just want your body, can I have it?/No can do")
  2:17pm dug:

cool remix
Avatar 2:30pm Cecile:

Getting a Phoebe Snow vibe here.
  2:35pm commodore vic:

Who’s the drummer on that Cloe Martin track?
Avatar 2:36pm Duane:

vic: no clue..dunno not much info on the personnel onthat beauty
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm Passaic River Blues:

There it is!
  3:00pm gauche knee:
