Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm rbx:

hello Duane and Co!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm JtotheK:

The Gloria Ann Taylor 'Deep Inside You' track was at least issued on a Columbia 45 - though I don't know if it is the same mix. And a few other 45s, such as "World That's Not Real".
Avatar 12:46pm Duane:

Jtothe K: It's not quite the same mix, but yeah it's still cool!!
Avatar 12:48pm Cheri Pi:

I hopped the train a while back but it's taken me this long to climb inside through an open window.
Avatar 12:48pm ᏠЄႶႶỊѺµЄ:

Beaming onto the train from my spaceship
Avatar 12:48pm Jshatan:

Is this Hedonic track self-produced? It's iller than hell!
Avatar 12:50pm Duane:

JSHatan: No Hedonic Islands did
Avatar 12:53pm Jshatan:

Great stuff.

Gawddamn, thanks for this afternoon's soundtrack, Duane!
Avatar 1:26pm Duane:

ROn HArdy was one of the architects of House music and that re-edit was a cornerstone of it's development

  1:29pm Mike tp:

thanks Duane.im not that familiar or perhaps paid attention to this.thanks !!I'll investigate for sure!!!
Avatar 1:43pm geezerette:

Always loved Hayes' music but knew nothing about the man. Enjoying this interview!!!
  1:44pm Stevel:

What an amazing voice.
  1:48pm Laura:

That grocery store across the street was "Big Star" if I'm not mistaken..
Avatar 1:49pm Jshatan:

Great interview! I always wondered why Ike turned more towards interpretation rather than writing his own stuff. Obviously, his interpretations were astounding but he and Porter wrote some of the best songs ever. Was it due to their partnership dissolving and IH not wanting to start again with someone else?
  1:49pm Laura:

The band Big Star came up with that band name peering our the window of Stax recording studio at that grocery store :)
  1:51pm Laura:

Wikipedia: "The band adopted the name Big Star when one member was given the idea from a grocery store often visited for snacks during recording sessions. One of many Big Star Markets outlets in the Memphis region at the time, it had a logo consisting of a five-pointed star enclosing the words "Big Star"
Avatar 1:52pm Cecile:

Every song on the Sam and Dave album Soul Man is spotless. I've loved it since I found it for 50 cents at the Salvation Army after the Blues Brothers first appeared on SNL.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Passaic River Blues:

One million click stars.
  1:56pm Stevel:

So glad he can stay! Thanks! I'm learning a bunch, and the music is terrific.
Avatar 1:57pm Monica:

Dj Duane and Mr. C! Two, two, two mints in one!
  1:58pm Stevel:

Laura. That is very cool story. Want to visit Memphis. Might have to make that happen.
Avatar 1:58pm geezerette:

I think I need this album!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Itzall Ablurr:

Big Star were awesome. My standout memory of shopping at a Big Star was in the mid-80s, when I opened a Goo-Goo Cluster® (candy bar thing) from there a freaking moth FLEW out. And yes, I still ate it. The candy, not the moth.
Avatar 2:07pm geezerette:

"monument of originality" nice! :D
  2:13pm Laura:

Stevel - this is the documentary where Alex et al tell the grocery store story (and mention that Isaac Hayes was at Stax at the same time they were): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2290151/
Avatar 2:18pm geezerette:

Excellent interview, Duane!!!!
  2:23pm Saasha Foo:

I wish I could get this box set on vinyl!!!
  2:28pm Stevel:

Thanks, Laura!
Avatar 2:31pm geezerette:

Eloquent piano too.
Avatar 2:33pm Jshatan:

Amazing. Not only one of Ike's greatest vocals, but one of the greatest gospel tracks I've ever heard. Thank you, Joe!
Avatar 2:33pm geezerette:

What Jshatan said.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:34pm JtotheK:

great interview - thanks Duane!
Avatar 2:35pm Cecile:

Beautiful job, Joe!
Avatar 2:37pm Cecile:

J-Zone has his agenda pre-prepared.
Avatar 2:39pm Duane:

Cecile: He's got a manifesto ready for ya!
Avatar 2:45pm Jshatan:

Charles Wright is one of the most underrated funkateers of all time.
Avatar 2:47pm Cecile:

Of course he does.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Passaic River Blues:

@Jshatan: Concur 100%. Musician, bandleader, funkateer, bit of a weird voice, begetter of Eazy E--truly an incredible figure.
Avatar 2:50pm Cecile:

This song is so wrong it's almost right. But not quite.
Avatar 2:50pm Jshatan:

Yes, PRB!!
