Hey Fabio! Excuse while I fall off my chair - someone is actually playing Procol Harum! Woo! Cheers!
Avatar 3:06pm TDK60:

Wow, Procol Harum. I don't hear them much on *any* radio station anymore. Great band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm steveo:

hello and looking forward to beaucoup failure
  3:08pm Listener142985:

utterly failing not to like this
  3:09pm Tom from Maplewood:

Pro ol Harem. Back in the days when a great song such as this could become (somewhat popular.
  3:10pm Tom from Maplewood:

Typo city above, huh! I was listening and not paying full time and attention. Thank you Procol Harem! Thank you Fabio!
Avatar 3:11pm V Priceless:

what Tom from Maplewood said...
  3:13pm Brendan:

Hey its the Stairway to Heaven solo from that other universe
  3:13pm Brendan:

Same chords anyway
Avatar 3:14pm Polyus:

Alright Fabio, Did you see Mother! yet, and if so, what's your take?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Carmichael:

Listening live for a change. Heya Fabs and fans.
  3:16pm P-90:

Ciao Fabio and loyal Failurenauts
Avatar 3:18pm Fabio:

@ Polyus: yes, I did see it and I did NOT like it!
  3:18pm wfmu listener phillip:

Fabio!! tuned in as usual on my metroPCS smartphone

I very rarely know for sure, but I'm 99.9999% certain I will not enjoy "mother!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28pm steveo:

Megan Colligan, even told The Hollywood Reporter, "We don’t want all movies to be safe. And it’s OK if some people don’t like it.”
Avatar 3:32pm uuee:

A Salty Dog, am I. Ahh, my favorite time o' the week. G'day Fabio, and freeks
Avatar 3:33pm utter failure∅:

greetings Fabio and Fablings
Avatar 3:36pm krazy kat:

oww, i just got hit on the head with a brick!
  3:39pm Brendan:

Sight unseen , it seems like they are going for ‘A-list’ actors for an ‘art film’ to play it safe. Both are arbitrary terms anyway and so long as it tells a good story, I guess I’m cool with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Greetings, people of failure!
Avatar 3:44pm Polyus:

Oh, there's no playing it safe with this movie. Aronofsky is basically out in the parking lot doing donuts with his middle fingers out the window here.
Avatar 3:46pm Polyus:

It's a whole new level of over the top, even for him. I can't say I really "liked" it, though I have developed kind of a grudging admiration for its gaudiness in the week since I saw it. I can't really explain. . .
Avatar 3:46pm northguineahills:

I enjoyed Goodbye Niagara Suite....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm steveo:

  3:48pm matt:

mother! sounds dumb as hell and anybody who thinks it's genius and open to interpretation is probably stupid
Avatar 3:48pm coelacanth∅:

is Geoff Mullen any relation to Jeff Mullen?

Bed music sounds like riders on the storm
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm ⓘⓚⓔ:

"36 Trillion Manifestations", perhaps?
Avatar 3:50pm coelacanth∅:

i bought a best of- album when i was probably around 10-11 for whiter shade but grew to like some of the other songs better.
Avatar 3:50pm TDK60:

Procol Harum has several great albums -- lots there.
  3:53pm P-90:

You mean it's NOT pronounced "War-wack"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm ⓔⓘⓚ:

I despise most "classic" rock but that was pretty decent. I was like, "Is this early Genesis? No, wait, it's better than that."
  3:53pm Brendan:

Whiter Shade definitely hits a primal emotional nerve.
Avatar 3:57pm kppk:

@coelacanth∅ I once asked Jeff Mullen if he was Geoff Mullen but he said no & no relation, but it is possible that we know different Jeff(s)...
Avatar 3:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Avatar 4:03pm geezerette:

Good afternoon, Fabio and failureologists!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm joe mulligan:

this Norman Westberg is so peaceful. thanks Fab!
  4:05pm Clay:

Mother! is the best thing I've seen since Witch. It made Black Swan seem like Son of Flubber.
  4:05pm JakeGould:

The thing about Darren Aronofsky is he has great ideas and skills, but in the end it is always suffocating negativity. I liked it with “Pi” and “Requiem for a Dream.” But once he got past that it was just misery schtick.
Avatar 4:06pm Honeybear:

what time was normal westberg starting again (tonite)?
Avatar 4:06pm Honeybear:

norman!
Avatar 4:07pm Stay Frosty:

I always appreciate a little Neil. Thanks Fabio.

Avatar 4:09pm geezerette:

Neil Young gets better with age. But I don't know whether it's his age or mine. ( :D )
Avatar 4:10pm Stay Frosty:

@geezerette Amen to that...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm steveo:

anybody see Neil recently at Farm Aid?
Avatar 4:11pm TDK60:

More of that "classic" rock some folks hate. But when it came out, we didn't know it was classic yet. And I betcha, someday folks will put down stuff from now.
Avatar 4:11pm Honeybear:

@geezerette - the more years go by, the closer you get to other people in age. so I guess that means we're all getting younger, together
Avatar 4:13pm geezerette:

@Honeybear: I certainly hope so!
  4:13pm JakeGould:

How’s everyone’s Pono doing? Nothing better than listening to my Tidal tracks on a Pono!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm steveo:

never heard On the Beach on "classic rock" radio, TDK. it's the repetition/lack of depth that bugs me about those stations
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm steveo:

very rich sound from Pekko Kappi; love the strings and the whispers
Avatar 4:16pm coelacanth∅:

i think Mr. Young has gradually gotten better since his overall horribleness of the 80s; but still hasn't and positively never will reach the Awesomeness of most of his pre-80s recordings.
but the fact that he's still even tolerable is Extraordinary.

Avatar 4:24pm TDK60:

Steveo: Oh, you meant *those* stations. Never liked them either. It's the music I like and those stations usually never really delve into it, like you say.
Avatar 4:26pm bnowb:

I like :)
Avatar 4:27pm geezerette:

Hey movie people, watched "A Poem is a Naked Person" by Les Blank on Filmstruck last night. Great documentry on Leon Russel.
Tons of great music and time travel to 1974 in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Leon's brain, and genius musicians all over the place.
Many crazy surprises.
Avatar 4:29pm geezerette:

Vincent Gallo, gorgeous!
Avatar 4:31pm TDK60:

Geezerette - I saw that. Was impressed by the country session players in the studio. Leon was quite a rocker; never saw him live.
Avatar 4:31pm bnowb:

Selfie sticks how do you like those? Buffalo 66 so funny.. "sorry i just had to go to the bathroom"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm steveo:

tell us how you really feel :)
Avatar 4:33pm rascal yammers:

Thanks! I had a feeling Mother was a stinker, but - curiosity was about to get me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm ɨkɛ:

I haven't seen "Mother!" but it got an "F" Cinemascore grade from audiences, which is virtually unheard-of. Cinemascore is usually very lenient. Super-shitty movies usually get a B-minus at worst. Of course it doesn't help that it's been mis-marketed as a horror movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm steveo:

Vuonna '86, the story of an Italian footballer who failed to make the game-winning corner kick.
Avatar 4:35pm TDK60:

Didn't know Wire was playing here. Darnit! Will miss 'em again.
Avatar 4:39pm Polyus:

@ike - Girls Trip got an A+ from CinemaScore, fwiw. Even The Emoji Movie got a solid B.
Avatar 4:46pm Henry:

cool. at least it's not Elvis's bathroom
  4:46pm JakeGould:

Who doesn’t like Emojis? All the bullshit and death in the world and all cultures like Emojis.
  4:48pm mischi:

@jakegould : you are actually totally right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Fox:

I find it strange how popular the poo emoji is.
Avatar 4:51pm geezerette:

@TDK60@4:31: The session players were brilliant, and the Pickin' Parlour, the whole thing. Love Les Blank and Leon Russell.
Never saw him live either. We clearly missed out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm steveo:

i suddenly feel anxious for some reason
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Mike da Scag:

the dog whistle frequency set. Good music. But I got kinda mixed feelings about mega-upper-register tonality.
  4:53pm nic:

  4:54pm Brendan:

Killer show
Avatar 4:54pm Mr. Lowry:

I don't like emoji. But I don't like war either.
Avatar 4:55pm geezerette:

Fabio, this show! This set! Thanks!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Michael 98145:

Shucks. I step away for awhile and come back to discover this lovely alien music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

Is there an emoji emoji? What would it look like?
  4:55pm Vanessa:

this song goes really well
with the sound of my e-bike
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm ɨkɛ:

I forgot to add that horror movie audiences are the only audiences that rate movies harshly in Cinemascore, so maybe that "F" isn't that surprising, since it was marketed to them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Michael 98145:

... and come back to discover meta-emoji discussions

Somethings gone wonderfully wrong in the transporter room.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Cliff back in the U.S.S.A.:

What is the sound of one hand failing to type an emoji emoji?
Avatar 4:58pm coelacanth∅:

had a chance to see Leon Russell many years ago and didn't take it. i don't remember why not, since his segment on the original woodstock soundtrack was instantly and remains to this day one of my favorite moments on the album(s) - and i think aptly demonstrates some amazing talent.
Avatar 5:02pm geezerette:

Hey, Michael!

@dale: it's got that same electric piano twang that featured prominently in the Fantastic Planet soundtrack. Love that sound.
Avatar 5:30pm TehBadDr:

Why would one be scraping sand and prime?
Avatar 5:31pm dale:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Carmichael:

@coel, I saw Leon Russell and Edgar Winter perform together in a Lake Tahoe casino many years ago. Winter was a whirling dervish, playing every instrument he could grab. Russell was very sedate and still. I learned much later it was due to his MS.
