  12:02pm Mark R:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Your Ace From Exchange Place:

Friday from Noon to 3, just like old times!
  12:04pm P-90:

Hi Monica! Off to a lovely start...
  12:04pm sugarwolf:

Hi Monica! I saw the clip of the French marching band playing Daft Punk songs for Bastille Day and thought of you and all your great marching band records!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm Doug Schulkind:

I know you're in unfamiliar surroundings Mo. Remember to make your playlist "Live."
  12:05pm Mr C:

Up where the air is rare! The DJ Monica radio programme!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm doctorjazz:

(Pop up is working again, can put my phone back in my pocket. Didn't work for Doug's show).
Avatar 12:08pm geezerette:

Monica, goddess of the air, howdy!
  12:08pm Ramblin' Ray:

A knobbly knees competition?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm JtotheK:

hi Monica, hi everyone.
Avatar 12:12pm still b/p:

All skirts dark, but a dash of vim among the shoes.
Avatar 12:13pm Joe non Papa:

Ray, I think the gif is from a Busby Berkeley musical, maybe 42nd Street.
Avatar 12:14pm Monica:

howdy LJFW, Dougeleh, Mark R, Your Ace, doctor jazz, coelacanth, dominick, p-90, s'wolf, gezzerette, ramblin' ray. still b/p, and Joe non Papa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Doug Schulkind:

Monica, your playlist isn't live yet!
Avatar 12:15pm still b/p:

And that's how I'll try answering the question from acquaintances,"How's it goin'?" for a while: "All skirts dark, but a dash of vim among the shoes."
  12:15pm P-90:

Anyone else hear a bit of Television vibe in this K. Morby?
Avatar 12:16pm geezerette:

spectator pumps !
  12:17pm uncle michael:

hey, Monica!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm annie:

Avatar 12:18pm geezerette:

Avatar 12:18pm Monica:

hey ho, uncle michael! hope your vaycay is swell. and annie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm annie:

oh hell, i just went ahead and liked the whole episode,.. no sense in liking each tune.
  12:19pm P-90:

Always LOVED this somewhat demented "Tango"- bits of it figure prominently in Coppola's criminally underrated "One from the Heart"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm annie:

i was turned onto gotan project long ago when a tango friend sent me multiple CDs full of his favorites...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm annie:

thanks for the tip P-90, i've got that queued up on youtube..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Brian in UK:

Now what did I do with my spats. Oh hello Monica swell to see you on the Stream.
Avatar 12:24pm Monica:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm annie:

dem gams, yo!
Avatar 12:31pm still b/p:

For some reason I get a kick out of the rolled tops on the (pre-nylon) stockings. Joe non Papa is right, the clip is from 42nd Street.
  12:31pm melinda:

Hi Mon!
Avatar 12:32pm geezerette:

Gee, this music is swell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34pm annie:

there was a story i heard about nylons and their indestructability... since they never ran no one had to replace them.... so... came the fakes.. any back this up? personally, i prefer the stockings with the seams up the back...not like i'll ever wear 'em.
  12:35pm uncle michael:

I'm afraid Chicago was last weekend. This weekend we're in Omaha. But thank you yes, we're having a wonderful time. Thanks for covering my show Monica.
  12:39pm Mr C:

More hither! Less yon..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm annie:

actually called "the legs scene"
  12:39pm P-90:

Francis Ford Coppola's "One from the Heart", which features an entire score of songs and lyrics by Tim Waits . Maybe the best movie musical you've never seen.
Avatar 12:40pm Monica:

hola, melinda! thx, joe non papa - 42nd st.!! Mr. C. in the pace to be! Yes, P-90 - that's it!
Avatar 12:40pm Monica:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm annie:

  12:42pm P-90:

Ergh! "Tom" Waits, that guy. Sorry, posting from phone app...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm listener james from westwood:

I'm here for all versions of "Angel of the Morning."
Avatar 12:42pm geezerette:

Great segue!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Stanley:

Hi Monica
'phones in and it's to the pub we go.
Avatar 12:43pm still b/p:

Can also see the shot in this original 42nd Street trailer, which pitches the drama and action and showbiz razzle-dazzle with a dryly clinical quality of narration:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm annie:

i may break down and pay money to see TCM online.. converesly, it's always a nice treat to see it when i'm pet-sitting..
Avatar 12:45pm Monica:

next round's on stanley:)
Avatar 12:45pm still b/p:

I gave it up when I gave up the satellite dish, and I surely and sorely miss it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm annie:

cheers stanley..... i love TCM overall, but i see they are getting more "patriotic" lately... more 'murkan so to speak..
Avatar 12:47pm geezerette:

Steel drum band. :D
Avatar 12:49pm geezerette:

This set is so lovely.
  12:53pm P-90:

@annie: depending on what you'd pay to upgrade, I'd say TCM is def worth springing for. And the recent "patriotic" stuff was holiday-themed for July 4th, they do seasonal and occasional stuff like that.
  12:54pm Stanley:

those words in the last song were somewhat dubious. good tune though
  12:54pm uncle michael:

if only Eunice was here, Monica.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm annie:

oh, yeah, i know, P-90, i avoid TCM during those times.. it's so heavy-handed, but it DOES appeal to many of those oldsters.. and i'd suscribe to the channel via the website..i'm 67.5% in favor of it... although... my next house-sit gig has direct tv.. so.. hey... i got time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm doctorjazz:

Lovely set!
Avatar 12:58pm geezerette:

Annie and P-90, Filmstruck is really good. A lot of TCM content and Criterion. Think we're gonna try it for awhile. Currently watching Apu trilogy for the fist time.
Avatar 12:59pm Monica:

thx, geezerette & doctorjazz.... agree, stanley... agree on that , LJFW...
Avatar 1:00pm geezerette:

...first. (Do I really need another espresso?)
Avatar 1:01pm Parq:

Monica! I almost forgot, and ended up missing the first reel. The gifs are, as always, magnificent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Greetings from the auto-repair shop wifi, Monica!
  1:03pm P-90:

@geezerette: thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:05pm Webhamster Henry:

Hi Monica! nice summery selection here!
Avatar 1:06pm Parq:

Pot up that mike, champ. I had to turn the volume up substantially to make out what you're saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm annie:

@geezerette: hhmmmm... might be an alternative.. thanks!!
  1:10pm sugarwolf:

Yay lunch break time, so I can listen!!!
  1:11pm Steve L:

I can hear you all the way to Orygun!
Avatar 1:11pm Monica:

greetings, parq and webhamster henry. good job, doug!
Avatar 1:13pm geezerette:

Annie & P-90, there's so much "content" available now, all of it time-eating, that we just want to pare it down. Used to love Netflix.
Not worth it to us having cable just for TCM. Never thought I'd be complaining about over abundance of "entertainment"!
Avatar 1:14pm Monica:

Steve L! Pull up a chair!
  1:19pm sugarwolf:

Nobody beats the Biz!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm annie:

yes, geezerette, i've been able to find so many alternatives to cable movie choices. i use youtube when it's on there and(god forbid) putlocker, although it's been bombbarded with malware of late. so the viewing experience is stressful. and i'm sad about netflix's site upgrade.. so confusing and noisy.. ...am i getting old yet?
Avatar 1:19pm geezerette:

haha, so nicely ragged.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm listener james from westwood:

Holy crap, I just nicked off to the loo, whistling "Benny" to myself, and BOOOOM, there it is! Send me some lotto numbers next, I'll split it with ya!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm annie:

drunken version^^^
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm annie:

3, 12, 35, 46, 50
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Popping on "Bennie and the Jets," good. Popping bennies on jets, not so good.
Avatar 1:26pm geezerette:

Annie, sometimes I think we're all old. Sometimes I think we should relax and accept the inevitability of it and dig the upside.
I have a friend who's about to be 95 and he's one of the most vivid, intelligent, and funniest people I've ever known. Something to strive for.
  1:27pm P-90:

@Doug S: Hahaha!
Avatar 1:28pm Parq:

Hah. Just opened my FB account and the "memories" pic that popped up shows Miss Monica doing Ken's hair and make up for his Bryan Ferry performance in the mid aughts.
Avatar 1:30pm Parq:

Speaking of which, if you have an account on FB, you've got to go check out the pic Monica posted to plug this show. Even better than the legsy gif, and that's going some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm annie:

i'm 64 and not old yet... my bones say differently.. i aim to be as cranky as the best of them when i'm 80...
Avatar 1:37pm geezerette:

Annie, one of my goals too! I've always been cranky!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm annie:

bless your heart geezerette!! may it ever be so!
Avatar 1:39pm geezerette:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm David D:

Monica, great to hear you on the stream!
Avatar 1:40pm Monica:

thx so much, david d!
Avatar 1:43pm Parq:

A 23 year old dermatologist would be a pretty impressive feat academically speaking. Just saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm annie:

clinical knowledge, life-experience to come, parq
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm listener james from westwood:

That's some Doogie Howser, MD territory!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm listener james from westwood:

Can't beat the instrumentation on these disco tracks!
Avatar 1:49pm Monica:

yep, so many great session players!
Avatar 1:51pm Parq:

Annie, think about it. Four years of college, four years of med school, finished by age 23.
Avatar 1:57pm geezerette:

Love this!
Avatar 1:58pm geezerette:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm listener james from westwood:

Yes! Topical track for the 40th of the great NYC blackout!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm annie:

right, parq??? not to mention the extensive research into understanding allergies, ... oy vey...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm listener james from westwood:

We had moved to northern NJ from the Castle Hill/Parkchester section of the Bronx nearly exactly 2 yrs before the blackout. Good timing! My dad likely would've been stuck in lower Manhattan. (He got a ride to the Bx from Wall St during the '65 blackout when a cop he knew pulled over and asked him if he wanted a lift. Best possible way you can be transported in a cop car!)
  2:01pm Dru:

Hey Mo! Just tuning in, this is great!
Avatar 2:01pm geezerette:

God I love New York. New Yorkers, Jersey included.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm listener james from westwood:

For the '77 one there's a nonzero chance all three of us were actually in Lavallette, down the shore as they say.
Avatar 2:04pm Parq:

I was in my parents basement in New Jersey (no, my bedroom was upstairs where it always was; I had a workbench down there.) All of a sudden the radio station went of the air. I went upstairs and the TV had gone off the air. Managed to find a New Jersey radio station and learned the situation. All hell was breaking loose in bad nabes, people were sashaying around in candlelight in good nabes, and all I knew was that I was glad it was my night off from a job at a Times Square movie palace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm listener james from westwood:

@geezerette: So many of us NJ folks are former NYCers! Bunch of folks in this apt. building are fellow Bronx babies! You can hear it in the accent—same as my parents'!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm listener james from westwood:

Hoo boy, chaos on the grindhouse strip was definitely something to avoid!
Avatar 2:06pm Parq:

James, I am the opposite (as is so often the case). Grew up in NJ, lived there until I was 26, moved to NYC the minute I got the chance, never looked back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm annie:

can't even type a full sentence now in th box here.. slow damn computer... these gifs really kill the speed... gonna go..
  2:12pm Jessie:

Lady Aster's, on Aster Place. Lights flickered and died -- went up onto the street just in time to catch the lights blinking out in big chunks up the avenue. Wandered back to my second street stoop and sat out there for awhile with neighbors and a transistor. Some friends came by with the idea to go down to South Ferry and get on the Staten Island Ferry so that we could look back and see the blacked out skyline. Walked down to the end of the island only to find out the ferry's loading apparatus was electric so not operational. Spooky. I remember being in Battery Park and noticing how weird it was to hear approaching footsteps but be unable to see who was coming. I guess the East Village at the time would count as a "bad" neighborhood, but I don't remember being scared -- it was all a weird adventure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm listener james from westwood:

Nicole Atkins!!
Avatar 2:17pm Monica:

hi there, dru!... and jessie - thx for sharing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm listener james from westwood:

For the, what, 2003, 2005 blackout, I was working in Midtown. Got to the bus station moments before the power went. Walked up the dead escalator, waited for my Bergen County bus, figuring, shit, the tunnel is still a tunnel, right? Right; boarded, headed out, got home late due to dead traffic signals thru Jerz, but it was broad daylight so navigation was no prob. Slept over my parents' (1 town over they had power; outages very patchwork in Bergen.)
Avatar 2:22pm geezerette:

Great record!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm doctorjazz:

Grew up in Brooklyn, lived there until about 20 years ago (managed to leave there as it was about to become cool), took the family to Jersey. Still actually miss Brooklyn).

I don't see anything but the cybernetic jukebox coming up after this show in the GTDR schedule... so don't feel constrained to stop right at 3PM on the dot if you've got more music in you, is all I'm saying.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Doug Schulkind:
