Nice choice of Sylvia songs to play. Mike Terry worked on this album after his Motown years. If you like this, listen to Sexy Mama by the Moments. Almost sounds like a continuation.
Avatar 3:44pm Cecile:

Zarah was an interesting character as a big star in WW2 Germany. Not Leni Riefenstahl at all, but no Marlene Dietrich, either. She didn't hang with the party at all, but took their money. In Swedish kronor wired directly to her homeland, which she fled to mid-war.
  3:44pm jerry h.:

Interesting Sylvia album cover!
  3:44pm RRN63:

Interesting. Nyro's such a celebrated Writer & ProtoGothChick - yet her singing was very Soul, indeed...

@northguineahills I wouldn't worry about missing Jeanette. Usually I get into an artist, think they're amazing and I must see them, and find out they;ve played London a week ago…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Rob Kopp:

If you like Spanish girls with "low" voices, I can highly recommend the EP's Dis que no by Massiel (1966) and No importa nada by Rosalia (1967). And now I'm typing this: why are all these Spanish girls only using their front name?
  4:15pm Max:

Not to spoil it to you guys, but in spain Jeanette is at best a running joke and at worst, a symbol of the kind of music the regime approved back then while everything rock and roll was censored
Avatar 4:16pm The Contessa:

And Jeanette's on Twitter!! @jeanetterebelde
Avatar 4:17pm djsheilab:

@The Contessa That's where I learned about her gig!
  4:17pm jerry h.:

Urban Decay definitely had the worst names. Gash was another kind of awful one. Raisin Rage was Revlon, another gorgeous colour with a bad name!

@DJSheilaB is that Jany L record label, Germinal, the same Germinal who wrote/svengali'd Clothilde's records?
  4:36pm Joe McG:

Yes, Rob, I can make that happen for you when I'm back in the office on Monday!

Well, it was the Carpenters, but same decade and from the same state. ;)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Devin B.:

This is the 3rd time today I've been a bit disappointed the Bedouine selection wasn't 'Solitary Daughter' and then 30 seconds later thought, "Wait, this song is fantastic too!"

Worthy Single of the Week! Will take your word that it's also "Album of the Week", DJ Sheila B...
  4:41pm sugarwolf:

@Cecile: from what I gather, Franco realllly wanted to host Eurovision, so votes may have been bought.

Of course the festival hosted in Spain had a four-way tie which was its own disaster...
  4:42pm Joe McG:

@Contessa: I wish I knew and I'd get one for myself! No, just kidding. The radio is for Swag for Lifers, but I can't recall what the heart is for at the moment. Possibly pledge level. Liz is our resident heart and radio expert and I'll consult her when she's back from vacay on Monday. We'll get you, too, jerry h!

@Passaic River Blues: As soon as I saw the Kim Jung Mi album I snagged it. It's a great copy pressed on clear dark blue vinyl with some red streaks. They also had the picture disc version, but it was over $100

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Rob Kopp:

@Carmichael: pledge software or ransome ware?
  4:54pm Joe McG:

@fred: You've got the inside scoop. We've switched systems and the hearts are likely leftover from folks who pledged when we still had the old system going. (I'm also very jealous of that copy of "Now," and Sheila as always is knocking it out of the park. Hi, Sheila!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Rob Kopp:

@Joe: how do you get 2 hearts?

The gin was spilled "intentionally" in a slightly altered state? Far out!
  5:36pm Early Morning in Seoul:

@C.C.: if the records I buy are particularly dirty, I use wood glue. You run the turntable, put some glue on the record (vinyl part only!!) and use something flat (e.g. piece of cardboard) to smooth it out. Then leave it out overnight to dry and peel it off in the morning. The wood glue cannot bind to vinyl, so it comes right off.
