Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Sheila and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:02pm Rob Kopp:

Hi Sheila, hi all. Couldn't listen last week before Saturday. The pronouncation of Eefje's Platenmaatschappij wasn't too bad! Platen = records, maatschappij = company and we put "tje" to something when it's small. So it means Eefjes small record company.
Avatar 3:02pm TehBadDr:

Hello Sheila and fellow Boom Boomers!

Avatar 3:13pm Cecile:

Do you have some Shirley Bassey floating around?
Avatar 3:14pm Listening Out There:

I think "Hey There Lonely Boy" was one of those "answer songs," written as a reversal of sorts on "Hey There Lonely Girl"...wasn't it?
Avatar 3:15pm Cecile:

It just seemed like the lyrical gender was changed, but I dunno.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Rob Kopp:

A couple of years ago Eefje did a nice but short cover of Blondie's Call me in TV-program De Wereld Draait Door (The world keeps on turning): www.youtube.com...
Avatar 3:16pm djsheilab:

@Listening Out There Ruby & the Romantics actually did the original, but Eddie Holman's version was a much bigger hit. And you've picked up on the theme of my next segment!

@Sheila Yes, yes, yes, to all that. I found myself facing bemused expressions at work today when I was raving about how great the new Selina Gomez track is. It's seriously good.
  4:03pm Dean:

"Bang Bang" rocks, absolutely. My 11YO son is a fan of AG's. He mentioned yesterday that he'd heard she "took blame" for the tragedy.
Avatar 4:04pm Cecile:

Dean, I saw some drag queens do it as the Powerpuff Girls. It was amazing.
The best drag queen I know wants to be the sixth Spice Girl.
  4:04pm Dean:

And "Bang Bang" includes Jessie J and Nicki Minaj. Solid tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm frozen_peas:

People are always gonna spout their opinions. You'd think they could set it aside for a minute in the wake of a tragedy, but alas. Tact is a rare virtue.

Reading my parents' facebook feeds, their complaint is that Ariana Gande isn't patriotic enough (apparently they didn't take a shine to her Trump protests). I really don't understand, but I stopped trying 20 years ago.

  4:13pm Dean:

My reflections on my youth are necessarily distorted by time, but I don't think I ever even thought about "dressing like" as an activity in which one engaged, except c.1968, when I was determined to look like Peter Fonda in "Easy Rider."

Certainly never thought of dressing like Skyhooks, but sure was impressed by the way they dressed!

Deborah Iyall - talk about a woman who got raked over by the music industry.
Avatar 4:53pm djsheilab:

@Faye Next song is for you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Adrian in London:

@sheila That was the episode where Claire Danes's mum realised she was talking to a ghost and the punchline was "How did you DIE??" !!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Michael 98145:

i think Claire Danes continues to do herself proud
Avatar 4:56pm Faye:

Avatar 4:57pm djsheilab:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Julie:

Hej hej, Faye! You're such a big softie! I have a feeling that SBB is a perfect Stockholm Friday night soundtrack.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Carmichael:

I have an Evan Dando/Syd Straw cover of a Richard Thompson song. Pretty cool still ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Gaylord Fields:

And I love love love that Romeo Void song!

  5:08pm Vampire girl:

Faye you are on the astral plane right.
  5:10pm Vampire girl:

I hope there is no disastronomy out there. That is astral planes language for an astronomical disaster.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm JtotheK:

Avatar 5:17pm Cecile:

  5:18pm P-90:

WOW! I was thinking of this song just the other day! From like the dawn of the eighties...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:18pm Adrian in London:

@Rob Kopp Excuse me, but I don't believe you asked for permission to leave the room
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Bronwyn Bishop:

back in college i had a music professor who consistently referred to robert plant as robert palmer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Rob Kopp:

@Adrian: Thanks for that Waterloo sunset link last week. Enjoyed it very much. Especially all the stories why it was the favorite song of so many people.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Adrian in London:

I read Andy 'Duran Duran' Taylor's autobiog a few years ago and he LOVED Robert Palmer. Said he was the most gentlemanly man.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Carmichael:

Whoa, Chris Frantz and Gary Numan played on that Palmer track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Adrian in London:

@Rob Kopp Oh, my pleasure; I thought you'd like it.
  5:21pm Dean:

Palmer worked with some amazing musicians.
Avatar 5:21pm djsheilab:

@Adrian in London He's definitely underrated.
  5:21pm Dean:

(So did Plant, I suppose.)
  5:22pm Vampire girl:

Walking in nyc I saw a van for a Turkish newspaper with the windows broken a few days ago
  5:22pm Mike tp:

Ooohhh this feels good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Rob Kopp:

@Adrian. Indeed I didn't ask for permission to leave the room, which I should have, but at least I announced it (at 3:46)
Avatar 5:27pm Listening Out There:

Why have I missed "Internation Girl"? How can it be...
  5:29pm Anonymous Coward:

Yay! SE Asian lounge psychedelia
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Rob Kopp:

@Sheila: original year of release?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Off to the grocery store to pick up weekend provisions. Will try not to knock stuff over as I dance up & down the aisles. Nice that their wifi doesn't block WFMU! <Looking at you, Kame-Apart!>

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:36pm adrian in mpls:

I love the bag idea! I totally start conversations with anyone I see around town wearing/toting around WFMU swag!
  5:37pm east hollywood:

Tote bag! I use my 2016 "sinners crossroads" on all my coolest excursions
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Carmichael:

I have over a dozen FMU shirts, which I wear around town all the time. Not a single person in California has ever asked about them, even the "Shut Up Weirdo" shirt.
  5:38pm Anonymous Coward:

Time flies when you're Boom-Booming
Avatar 5:41pm djsheilab:

Glad a few of you dig the tote bag idea. I think I shall go with it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Michael 98145:

in this part of the left coast you see a few FMU stickers on cars
Avatar 5:42pm djsheilab:

@Michael 98145 I love spotting WFMU stickers on cars! Got one on mine, but of course I do :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm Michael 98145:

the green-and-yellow round one with NJ is popular
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Michael 98145:

- love plays a violin - ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Adrian in London:

I used the WFMU bike-messenger bag until it practically rotted away
  5:47pm iambasil:

do you come up with the set at the spur of the moment in the studio or do you plan each week out?ive always wanted to ask the dh's that LOL
Avatar 5:48pm djsheilab:

@iambasil I plan each week out. I'm obsessed with smooth segues + getting the right mood, so I can only do that by planning ahead. I love the planning part too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Rob Kopp:

Kinks fan Frank Lima from New York (or in the neighborhood) is sending you a Kinks sticker for on your car when you ask him for it. I've got mine! www.kindakinks.net...
Avatar 5:49pm still b/p:

I never affix stickers on the vehicle, but maybe some portable presentation tryptych of FMU items to put in the window is the thing.
Avatar 5:50pm spacecowboy:

my job is killing me seriously - but i got out early yeeaasshhh! boom boom ( in A sophisticated fashion)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Gaylord Fields:

@iambasil: I'm the opposite of Sheila: My show is rather spontaneous, and I rarely know what I'm going to play from one song to the next.
Avatar 5:50pm spacecowboy:

slowly reviving with music ---
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm listener james from westwood:

Spotted an FMU sticker at the Livingston, NJ library yesterday. May have been an employee b/c they were there as long as I was. Good to have a kindred spirit under the same roof.
  5:53pm Paul D:

Is Shut Up Weirdo off for the night?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:53pm Adrian in London:

I've sort of avoided late-period Jeanette, obviously stupidly, because that track was great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm northguineahills:

Thanks, enjoy the long weekend Sheila and every WFMUer!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm northguineahills:

Dead Sea, not to be confused w/ the Dead C.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Rob Kopp:

Thanks again Sheila. Will listen to the part of the program that I missed (3:41 - 5:14) tomorrow. including the Ariane Grande interview? I'm an Ajax fan, but for Manchester I didn't mind that much United has won with 2-0.
