Good Morning, Your Highness!
Wonderful start!
Got a couple of decent wrecks: 287 near Piscataway, both side closed, so if anyone wants to go check out the carnage, find an overpass with visibility. The other one is on the BQE north; good luck getting to the Brooklyn Bridge.
Have a happy day!!!!!!!!

Aspirin's now in mg instead of grains -- but that was part of changes in pharmacy that proceeded independently of metrication of other things.
  7:50am
Listener Robert:

With other drugs, the metrication was "hard", resulting in round numbers in milligrams -- like, say, 50 mg tablets. With aspirin it's been "soft" metrication, resulting in tablets that are still 5 grains & 1 1/4 grains but labeled in mg.

Sometimes it's scary how people with a taste for WFMU wind up together. I was a listener since 1980 in the Bronx. Half a year ago I moved in here in NJ with a friend I'd barely known for a few years as a friend of friends I'd known for 30. Turns out he's been a WFMU listener since the 1970s. We even share tastes in AM radio. Then I happened upon a new stream called Newt Radio, got acquainted with its impresario. Turns out they'd previously been WNTI, and turns out my housemate used to listen to them too. And then closing the circle, those people had been inspired by WFMU, partly thru personal cx w Ol' Pal Irwin.

This is all more than mere chance.

Love this song, Power Pop lives! Jonesey! (the Rubinos, that is).
Curious about Newt Radio, but it's already tough to just listen to the stuff I love on FMU. I'll check it out, though.
  8:08am
Listener Robert:

Newt's pretty good, though as Ken sang one Hoof & Mouth, nothing compares to FMU. But that's one of the great things about WFMU: They're influential, unselfish, and promote the art generally. They're great for promoting individual acts, they're a model for others who are in a position to behave similarly, and they even helped a New Orleans station get back off the ground after a hurricane.
  8:10am
Andal:

What a pleasure to wake up to Pseu's voice. I miss Thing With a Hook so mich.
  8:11am
Listener Robert:

Po' foo', "mouse" is named for computer mice. It's a level of pledging they introduced in the 1990s as a way of financing the then-projected streaming (and later archiving) of their programs.

In terms of influential, it's hard to guess how long it would've taken other services to take up streaming if Ken hadn't had the foresight to enter that mode.

Stockholm is a section of Hardyston Township, it used to be Snufftown in colonial days. It is a magical place when driving on 23 north 91.1 fades away and 90.1 picks up perfectly.
  8:16am
JBeek:

Jonesy with a playlist. Wow.
  8:21am
Listener Robert:

90.1 reminds me of another fumbled ball that Auricle picked up. I was surprised to learn that what's now WMFU had had an unused construction permit for many years. I didn't even know the FCC permitted that kind of "parking", but apparently the people who started it ran out of resources. it may not be what its founder envisioned, but at least WFMU's making good use of it now.

Pseu Braun:

C'MON FOLKS! We gots mo-mentum now-- keep it going pledge NOW 1-800-989-9368 or cllick on the dog-cow banner on the upper left! THANKS!!
  8:27am
Listener Robert:

And then the archiving led to the Free Music Archive. They were like, why limit ourselves to archiving our own shows, when so many people want to search for individual pieces of music or other audio? Of course it's a job calaloguing material that artists want to make available, but who better to do it?
  8:31am
JakeGould:

It might be a “Day Without Women” across the U.S. right now, but what your gender is, WFMU needs your pledge money.

The number to pledge is: 800-989-9368. And the online link is:pledge.wfmu.org...
