Q ? : Were they aware across the Atlantic of ArthurLee & Love as another 'integrated' band? ( - another band who, like them, triggered more than one happy place in the brain @ once - & yet w/ a distinctive sound.)
Avatar 3:43pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

Derv Gordon coming up around 4 p.m.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Mike Sin:

All those clips of the Equals live on the West German show "Beat Beat Beat" show them with three guitarists and no bass, but the records feature cool prominent bass lines. I wonder what the standard live set up was?
Avatar 3:47pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Mike Sin: We will try and address that! I believe they started out with 3 guitars and then switched over...but Derv can set us straight!
  3:50pm ?:

Good question! They've got such a Motowny back beat mainly because of those prominent bass lines.
  3:51pm mayorfrank:

hello to all.
  3:51pm Claudialily:

Honey Gum is my favorite!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Greg from ZONE 5:

My life ain't easy...Great track!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11pm Mike Sin:

Like many folks of my age and ilk, I came to "My Life Ain't Easy" through the Plimsouls' LP. It took me a while to track down this version.
  4:19pm mayor frank:

great interview. thank you both.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Bob Slee:

Can we get Funky ? I mean, like a train ?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm dgg:

Wow interesting about the African tour and the refusal (or disinterest) in coming to the US during Jim Crow. Great questions.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hendrix's white English bandmates spoke of their naivete & surprise @ racism in the USA of the 1960s. Hendrix though was American - & had some experience of the South.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I wonder if that had anything to do w/ Arthur Lee famously not touring outside the L.A. area - it suddenly occurs to me...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Mike Sin:

I think Eddy Grant reissued some of the Equals material on comps through his own ICE label in the 1990s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...couldn't tour here - a wonder if we ever heard them...
  4:32pm oks:

Great interview!! what a treat!!! any chance you'll be in NY?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm efd:

Great interview and show, Todd!
@Mike Flynn, the version of "I Want You Bad" I know best is by Dave Edmunds, from his Information album; maybe that's where you've heard it before.
  4:56pm Mike Flynn:

Yeah. That's right. It was Edmunds. Not my favorite of his albums, but a great song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

How can you think anything Drumpf (the oldest Prez ever) has ever done is 'moving forward'? Biz fraud, bankruptcy, notorious Unreality TV - the worst kind of cheap narcissism - sexism & racial scapegoating, hatred & the most blatant piggish classism - disrespect for people & disregard for facts @ every single opportunity?
