Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm doctorjazz:

Great tune, I agree (Weather Girls)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm doctorjazz:

So is Umbrella (I actually heard the version by All Time Low first, thanks to my at-the-time teen girls).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Michael 98145:

thank you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm northguineahills:

@doctorjazz: I was about to say nearly the same thing, I've heard references to Umbrella, but never heard the song before.
Avatar 3:13pm Claw!:

Hey Folks. Hope you are all holding up ok. Eat some food. Hug someone. Take care of you today.

We're right here, darlin', tequila, champagne and red wine in hand… (I work on a wine magazine, don't judge me!)
  3:19pm Stephanie:

Keep em comin! Colette Magny's vibrato reminds me of Benjamin Clementine. Did everyone check out the new Gorillaz song Hallelujah Money?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Guido from Cologne:

Hello Sheila!
  3:19pm quietlyartistic:

@claw! I was thinking that hugging is in order. Take us away Sheila B!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Adrian in London:

@DJSheilaB Ha, that's funny. Only this evening I'd liked something on Twiitter about Cherry Glazerr to tell you about her cos she sounded right up your street.
Avatar 3:29pm acid casualty:

Was that swans or songs swimming in the bathtub?
  3:30pm east hollywood:

Hello community! I concur with all on this board. Thank you Sheila! You make America Great!
  3:31pm Marching in Washington:

Thanks for the music to get us in a good mood for the Women's March on Washington tomorrow!
  3:32pm Cliff in Prague:

The SUW scream. Yeah I'll never forget that
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Guido from Cologne:

Don't you appreciate philosophic speeches?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm listener james from westwood:

I missed the proceedings, even opted out of my beloved GTDR programming to dodge reality. Will revisit the latter in archives. But had to get my ass in here where the disco ball never stops.
  3:36pm Cliff in Prague:

I was wondering about Mari Mizutani, it says 1968 on the playlist but I clicked on the album cover and said, this looks 80's to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Guido from Cologne:

you're richt Mari Mizutani, born 1971.
  3:38pm Listener Robert:

Who's WNSH-FM?
Avatar 3:40pm The Contessa:

  3:41pm Cliff in Prague:

It was the hat Guido. I remember girls in school wearing hats like that in 1986.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Uncle Michael:

Moon Bird sounds a bit like Midnight Cowboy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Uncle Michael:

Or was that the preceding bed music?
  3:42pm JakeGould:

I think I'll just listen to "Killing Joke" until 2020.
Avatar 3:42pm djsheilab:

@Cliff in Prague My mistake! Switched it to 1986. Frazzzzzzzled today!
  3:43pm Cliff in Prague:

Totally understandable Sheila!
Avatar 3:43pm Claw!:

i never really cared much for Pet Shop Boys, but this song could get it
Avatar 3:45pm TehBadDr:

Boom boom she boom boom. Hello Sheila B and boomboomers!
Avatar 3:46pm Ahtie Spheahz:

I've always been rather fond of Pet Shop Boys, but this song, right now is PERFECT. Thank you SheelarBee!
Avatar 3:47pm TehBadDr:

@JakeGould don't let our fascist elect get you down!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Bend Sinister:

You can't beat rain effects!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm NotARealDoctor:

This playlist is just the best for today. Thanks, Sheila B!
  3:49pm BennettCap:

Aww. It's raining in my heart.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm doctorjazz:

Love this Rhythm of the Rain (couldn't have told you it was the Cascades even with a gun to my head, though).
Avatar 3:50pm Polycarp55:

Maybe the Pet Shop Boys. Remind me of a time in bullet and riot infested Jerusalem, where it was 3 am. I was returning from a night out at the Arizona Bar. And another dance club, next to that Sapporo Pizza (the one was bombed by terrorists well after our visit.) I was making global plans with four other guys. One from England, One From Australia, and one from the Netherlands. Even though there was tension in the air, from social unrest, you could also feel the sparks of a creative revolution.
Avatar 3:50pm Claw!:

this song always plays in my head when it rains
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm doctorjazz:

actually, was that the original version of Rhythm of the Rain?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think I'll add a syrupy "Make America great again" when I answer the phone. This will assuredly lead to fewer phone calls.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Bronwyn Bishop:

hi sheila and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm listener james from westwood:

Bronwyn B!
Avatar 3:53pm TehBadDr:

I like this old timey stiff, makes you think about trend and appreciation of music.
Avatar 3:53pm Polycarp55:

Wow! This playlist rocks. We have Rihanna Featuring Jay Z with Umbrella, and then now with Ella Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall. Awesome mix. Thanks. BTW it is sunny here in Florida.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Hi James! :D
  3:53pm JakeGould:

So good! Inkspots! Speak bad now. Type weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm cosmic matrix:

Hahah I figured it was raining in the tri-state area when I noticed a few rain songs in a row. And it is!
Avatar 3:55pm TehBadDr:

Strange pop, why not in these strange times.
Avatar 3:57pm Claw!:

this makes me feel like I'm in a Forever 21
Avatar 3:57pm steve:

rain just started mins ago in Greenpoint
Avatar 3:58pm steve:

Sheila i LOVE this new pop stuff you find
Avatar 3:59pm djsheilab:

Thanks @Steve! And agreed @TehBadDr Something most peculiar about the vocal in that MUNA track. But I love it nonetheless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Adrian in London:

Me pre Sheila: I will listen only to this moody droney experimental ambient music
Me post Sheila: Woohoo!!! The Weather Girls!!!
Avatar 4:02pm TehBadDr:

@Claw! Forever 21 is for the millennials. Forever 49 is for us folks who have lived it all before, still searching for another kick!
Avatar 4:03pm Claw!:

@ TehBadDr - I need to find me one of those
Avatar 4:03pm steve:

omg yes i agree about vocal affect
Avatar 4:04pm βrian:

"But autotune *is* me," they proclaim.
Eh ... no.
  4:04pm Cliff in Prague:

Sheila are you talking about the Millenial Whoop? qz.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm cosmic matrix:

The Munu song sounded like 80's-inspired electronic pop with modern vocal style to me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm cosmic matrix:

I liked the music better than the vocals
  4:06pm Dean:

Shame both that listener and the DJ disliked that pop song so much. I never here people complaining about Dylan or Lou Reed's obviously affected voice.

I like the MUNA song! And this is not my type of music..made me feel a little better on an awful day in America.
Avatar 4:06pm βrian:

The Ink Spots were too polite to say "shitstorm."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Rob Kopp:

@Holly from NZL (if you're listening): Thanks for your recommendation of Snapper. Gently hours (b-side of Vader) is a great and I've put it on my wantlist. BTW: The cover by The Clean is even better.
Avatar 4:08pm TehBadDr:

@Claw!: Another Kick, or a mixed up millenial?
Avatar 4:09pm βrian:

I always liked the vocal affectation of Cousin It.

oh I love this sweet soul one. good good lovin' thanks Sheila!
  4:11pm JakeGould:

@Dean: Ummm, Sheila is talking about affectation. Lou Reed and Bob Dylan had personal styles. Big diff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm Adrian in London:

That Dolly Mixture cover artwork is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Rob Kopp:

@Adrian: Yeah, but the one with the orange hair looks a bit like ... Trump?
Avatar 4:14pm TehBadDr:

Love the always changing and surprising mix. Damn I want to met a girl in a soda shop!
  4:14pm Dean:

"Weap-on. Nobody talks like that". I believe was the quote.

Nobody talks like they sing, but I just jumped on to say I liked a song, not to argue.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm listener james from westwood:

I adore that Dolly Mixture cover.
  4:16pm Rob Gee:

Great tunes!
Avatar 4:16pm TehBadDr:

ZOMG it's the 80's again! I don't know how I feel about this....
Avatar 4:17pm djsheilab:

@Dean I love that song, which is why I played it. But vocal affectations in both women + men bother me. Hence my bringing it up. I've been publicly critical of people fawning over Dylan + Jagger's voices and criticizing voices like Brigitte Bardot's, FYI.
  4:17pm JakeGould:

I like Deniece Williams.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Michael 98145:

yes, nice to hear this again
  4:18pm Rob Gee:

4 am here in Hanoi and the music is awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Adrian in London:

@Rob Kopp No. Not at all. And please don't use that name on this board. This is a refuge, a sanctuary. ;-)
Avatar 4:18pm Claw!:

@TehBadDr - a Forever 49
I've had enough mixed-up Millenials, believe me... I'm one of them, technically. But at 32, I identify more with Xers, seeing as how I remember the world before internet and cellphones...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm Michael 98145:

what does tomorrow look like ??
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm doctorjazz:

Deneice Williams, so let's hear it!
Avatar 4:19pm Claw!:

Dylan and Jagger piss me off
  4:19pm JasonInBoston:

Sheila, Check out some early Niecy like "Free" and her recordings as Denise Chandler on Lock and Toddlin' Town. Good stuff.
  4:19pm JakeGould:

Is this Trump election what it feels like to be adopted or abandoned.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Adrian in London:

@Sheila This is such a lovely comforting set
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Mike Sin:

re: Mally Page.
Nice! Never heard that b-side!
Avatar 4:20pm The Contessa:

@Rob Gee, 4am!!
Avatar 4:20pm Joe McG:

Oh, Sheila, thanks! LOVE this O'Jays song.
Avatar 4:20pm TehBadDr:

@ 4:18 Michael 98145
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm Michael 98145:

* yikes *
Avatar 4:23pm TehBadDr:

Well, that's tomorrow in the vernacular and long term, maybe short term run.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm listener james from westwood:

I ... I did not know the Heavy D cover of this was, actually a cover! What a smooth track this started out as! (And I dig the hell out of D's version too!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm listener james from westwood:

Aaaahhhh, you rock!! Said Heavy version!!
  4:24pm AZ:

Do yourself a favor and catch Third World's version of Now That We Found Love. Takes me back to 1979-80 Jamaica.
  4:25pm JasonInBoston:

and don't forget about the AMAZING cover of Now That We Found Love by Third World that came out before the Heavy D version.
  4:25pm Stephanie:

Yessss. Can't help but be happy listening to thisss
  4:27pm AZ:

Sorry for abbreviating my name. Why are the math questions so hard? -- AZDave
  4:28pm Old Dave:

I loved the Third World before realizing I lived in the Fourth World.
Still do, just a different reality.
  4:30pm Cliff in Prague:

I thought Capsule was Pizzicato Five at first...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Michael 98145:

bouncy capsule !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm listener james from westwood:

Heavy D got me up off my ass to do some cleaning amid otherwise sedentary proofreading, so hell yeah to that!
  4:35pm JakeGould:

You went on a bender, Sheila. A bender.
  4:36pm Cliff in Prague:

And the airplane in "Airplane!" went through that disco station's transmitter
Avatar 4:37pm djsheilab:

@JackGould A bender! Yes! Thank you!
Avatar 4:39pm TehBadDr:

I stink of, and might be getting off on BioFreeze
Avatar 4:39pm djsheilab:

I love you Barry Gibb + the Bee Gees!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Rob Kopp:

I only have 2 female Bee Gees covers in iTunes: Un giorno come un altro (=First of May) by Lillian and Run to me by Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Carmichael:

Heya Sheila and Boomers. It's been 4 hours and we haven't dropped a bomb on anyone yet. I guess that's a good thing.
Avatar 4:40pm djsheilab:

@Rob Kopp I haven't heard that version of "Run To Me." WOW! Must investigate!
  4:40pm BennettCap:

I could listen to Streisand sing "Woman in Love" over and over, belting it out with her over and over, and still go back for more.
  4:41pm Old Dave:

We mostly voted Dem, to answer your question,Sheila. At least the friends I made on college radio as a 4AM
DJ. There was a thing called Punk that spoke to those of us cleaning toilets to get through school at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm Adrian in London:

Diana's hair is magnificent on that cover. And the tiger with the pearls in its teeth, haha!
  4:43pm Stephanie:

Thanks for the shout out sheila b! Thumbs up for the Bee Gees too! So much happiness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm listener james from westwood:

Ooh, this "Fool" brings me back. Rolling up endless numbers of D&D characters during middle school and tracks like this one in the background.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm dale:

need a little 70s soft rock after watching the tube today.
Avatar 4:45pm Slick Goldtooth:

Good stuff, loving it. @djsheilab, I'm learning the tough endless struggle you had of trying to find Jacqueline Taieb's "7 Heures Du Matin", thought I found gold at a record swap I recently went to but it was just an empty somewhat scruffy looking sleeve the owner wanted $45 bucks for :/
Avatar 4:46pm Cheyenne:

Thanks for the tunes, Sheila B. Music may not change the world but it definitely makes the place more bearable!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm listener james from westwood:

Whole lotta Gibbs goin' on in this set—yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:46pm Adrian in London:

Hey @SHeilaB what's your Single of the Week this week? ;-)
Avatar 4:46pm The Contessa:

Got a soft spot for all this falsetto business…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Rob Kopp:

That Sweet & Hoffs cover of Run to me is on their first CD in the Under the covers-series (1 60's, 2 70's, 3 80's) and I love all of their covers of 60's songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Michael 98145:

( always thought "fanny pack" was a bit of a chortle :)
  4:48pm Keith from Oregon:

Fanny was a great band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm Ken From Hyde Park:

How to feel better about yourself:
Step 1: Know that you are smarter than the president of the United States of America.
  4:50pm Old Dave:

@dale- was the National Anthem a little forced, or are my ears betraying me?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm A lump of mud:

Thanks Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Adrian in London:

I bought this LP, in mint condition, for two pounds from a charity shop in East Grinstead last year, after Sheila played a track from it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Michael 98145:

* nice cover of this song *
  4:55pm chalmers:

@Ken From Hyde Park: 1. Smarter. 2. Better read. 3. Have actual friends. 4. Laugh at least occasionally 5. Can let minor slights go.

Holy damn, that "Deep" cover and this "Grease" one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm Michael 98145:

grease is the way we are feeling .
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:59pm Rob Kopp:

@Slick Goldtooth: A couple of years ago there was a reissue with 7 heures du matin (French version) on the a-side and 7 AM (the English version) on the b-side. And 10 years ago she made an EP with Amsterdam Beatclub with 2 new versions: 7h du soir (French) and 7 PM (English)
Avatar 4:59pm Slick Goldtooth:

If you need a chuckle, the midday BBC news radio report on today's event was pretty great. Especially when the Canadian defense minister got asked on what he thinks Trump would think on Trudeau and he kinda gives a cop out answer because it's too obvious how he really felt and wanted to say.

I really like this version of Grease and how it gives a nod to I Can't Stand the Rain with the little popping sounds in the background.
Avatar 5:00pm Slick Goldtooth:

@Rob Oh snap, I had no idea. I'll definitely have to keep my eyes peeled.
Avatar 5:01pm Undead83:

Wow, great show ^^
  5:04pm Cliff in Prague:

Thanks for spoiling us Sheila! Off to bed now
  5:04pm Old Dave:

Slick- I really like that Sikh Defense Minister guy. He is doing actual public service. The cabinet in Canada is 50 percent women. Hence, the whole country has escaped Trump's notice!

Avatar 5:09pm Fox (Rā-chul):

I recently read an article by a Lyme Disease doctor, and she said persistent Lyme Disease is disbelieved by many doctors and the people in patients' lives, who doubt the severity of the illness. She's seen many marriages dissolve over the issue, and many patients in a state of PTSD over trying to prove to others that they are ill. Just having someone BELIEVE that you are sick is a huge deal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Rob Kopp:

@Adrian. I guess Theresa May has to apologize to ... somebody
Avatar 5:11pm djsheilab:

@Fox COMPLETELY! That's what struck me so much about this article. These people really care + are willing to put in the time with their patients, and it pays off!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm dale:

old dave - yeah, military chorus and musicians. i wish the armed forces didn't play so heavily into the pomp of it all. and there was no kenny goldsmith reading traffic reports so it was kind of a bust
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Michael 98145:

i'm a sucker for this habibi music
  5:11pm andrewb:

I never war a disco sucks t-shirt but consider that disco came out along with punk. Punk to us kids felt raw and real as opposed to disco which always felt manufactured for a demanding market. Consider "Grease" added to the movie version. Pure post saturday night fever money grab and totally wrong for a period musical.

@Fox, I know Kathleen Henna of Bikini Kill fame was diagnosed super late with late stage Lyme's Disease because a lot of doctors were unsure exactly what was wrong with her until well after the fact when a lot of damage was done. I know she's recovered now but it's pretty terrifying going so long with not knowing what is causing you a lot of pain.

Lovely stuff. this COTE. And I'm still not used to seeing 2017 as the date on a record! I just assume you've got a time machine.
Avatar 5:23pm djsheilab:

@Carmichael Hmmmm....I wonder if it's the turntable, this is sounding sloooooow too.
Avatar 5:23pm Fox (Rā-chul):

@Slick - Even if you DO know you've got Lyme it's a rough time. I've got some genetic health issues, and got Lyme Disease on top of that. I caught it within a few months, but I've got chronic migraines now, cognitive decline, and body pains. Seven years later I am still on anti-biotics, because without them, I get one long unrelenting headache.

The moral of the story is: Don't go outside. Not ever.
