Happy new year Sheila! How are your arm muscles feeling? (You're never as ripped as when you move house and have to lump your vinyl about: cheaper than joining a gym!)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi Sheila and wonderful people. The tragic Diana Dors story includes a mysterious fortune. en.wikipedia.org...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm Guido from Cologne:

The were high quality re-issues on sell-out recntly.
But the Russian label spoiled the gogious cover art with a die-cut in order to present the colored vinyl.
Couldn'd by that. Too annoying.
Avatar 3:45pm Linda Lee:

better quality fromage than no fromage at all, by far! ;-)
Avatar 3:46pm βrian:

C'est géniale cette chanson.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Just found out from the Political Compass site that I am extremely leftist and extremely libertarian. I didn't even know that was possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19pm Rob Kopp:

@Bend Sinister: great song by Macka B (saved it already in iTunes; and now the vinyl!)
  4:20pm modchick65:

...in the house. Hi everyone.
Avatar 4:21pm Linda Lee:

Bronwyn ~ do they cancel each other out & leave you centrist? :-D
Avatar 4:22pm Linda Lee:

or are you just anarchic? :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Haha I don't think so- it means I am extremely socially liberal and want everyone to be able to do essentially whatever they want on the individual level, but I want a socialist economy/government system.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23pm Bronwyn Bishop:

According to the site the political figure I'm most similar to is Gandhi. I'll take it.
Avatar 4:24pm Linda Lee:

wow you're right ~ that doesn't seem possible.
Avatar 4:24pm Linda Lee:

i think there's a hiccup in the algorithm :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Rob Kopp:

@SheilaB: I suppose you were in the 3rd hour from Odessa Harris up to Elgins? I will have a listen
  4:25pm Cliff in Prague:

Me too, another liberal-libertarian checking in
Avatar 4:26pm djsheilab:

@Robb Kopp I started with "Hit the Road Jack" until the Elgins I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm JtotheK:

hi sheilaB, hi everyone! arriving late, hope there's still space available in the boom-boom room.
Avatar 4:27pm djsheilab:

To all of you lovely lefties checking in, good afternoon!

Avatar 4:28pm Cecile:

I call myself a "liberaltarian"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30pm Rob Kopp:

Unfortunately singer Jerney Kaagman has Parkinson now.
Avatar 4:31pm Linda Lee:

if 'liberal' is synonymous with neo-liberalism, leave me the heck out of it! :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:32pm ausmanx:

good morning from the deep (and very hot) south... just joining comments board briefly in case folks (of all political persuasions) might want to take a quick look at The World's Longest Bass Solo taking place right now in Tasmania www.youtube.com... Meanwhile, thanks for the usual excellent tunes, SB
  4:32pm Stevel:

I'm listening...

[sniffle snuffle]
  4:33pm Cliff in Prague:

Feh, "neo-liberalism" is nothing more cynically co-opting the language of liberalism to promote reactionary politics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Rob Kopp:

For me Earth & Fire's 1st single Seasons (written by George Kooymans of The Golden Earring) from '69 still is their best: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm tuner fish:

nice to hear ella and chick
Avatar 4:35pm Christine:

@Bronwyn - and to make things even more confusing, you share a name with a very conservative Australian politican!
Avatar 4:36pm Linda Lee:

Cliff ~ yes, of course.
  4:36pm modchick65:

@djsheilab -- Did you ever hear the Exit-13 record "Smoking Songs"? Although a death metal band, the entire record (as I remember) are 20s-style cocktail songs about pot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Bronwyn Bishop:

I am a very conservative Australian politician. That's why those test results were so confusing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Bronwyn Bishop:

(shh, don't tell the other Australian politicians I'm commenting on wfmu instead of working)
Avatar 4:37pm Linda Lee:

most popular record directly referencing drugs has to be 'Kickin the Gong Around'!
  4:38pm Jasper:

Haha so crazy that you played Earth and Fire! And much respect for finding it the old-fashioned way!
Avatar 4:38pm Christine:

@ Bronwyn - haha! You are probably doing no less work than the others, don't worry.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Rob Kopp:

@modchick: Your CD is hanging
Avatar 4:41pm TDK60:

I think Ameruhkinz are confused by the 2 terms, liberalism and neoliberalism. Liberalism usually refers to liberal politically as in open-minded socially and semi-progressive--sort of in the vein of F.D. Roosevelt or J.F. Kennedy. Neoliberalism refers to an earlier liberal or laissez faire economics as in Adam Smith, right? So neoliberal = unbridled capitalism. Hence, much confusion.
Avatar 4:41pm Linda Lee:

Joe McG is hitting 21?? that's barely legal! :-D
  4:43pm Cliff in Prague:

Nah, neoliberal is in no way liberal, it's just neoconservative w/virtue-signalling to appeal to/confuse real liberals.
Avatar 4:43pm Linda Lee:

TDK60, yep. confusion on both sides. & reactive confusion.
Avatar 4:44pm TDK60:

Cliff: That's what I was getting at.
Avatar 4:44pm Linda Lee:

you're both saying the same thing, really.
Avatar 4:45pm Cecile:

catchy tune, laziest Steve Miller lyrics ever. And that's lazy.
  4:45pm Cliff in Prague:

TDK60 & Linda Lee - OK we're good then...it's almost 11pm here and I'm too drunk to argue politics anyway ;)

Well that's how Biff Tannen gained his fortune in Back to the Future Part II... www.youtube.com...

Just 1 more week until the T(annen/rump) presidency

@Holly: The Chills from NZL are my next favorite band after The Kinks. Their (for me) desert island LP Kaleidoscope world has just been re-released as 2LP!
Avatar 5:37pm Linda Lee:

love french garage the most. superbe.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Rob Kopp:

@SheilaB: I'd expected a picture of the powder box!
  5:44pm Holly from New Zealand:

@Robb... I live in Dunedin where the Chills are from, not only is their new keyboard player a friend of mine but they sung me happy birthday at a gig on my 21st birthday many moons ago. Great great band
  5:45pm Stevel:

What a great Friday afternoon show. Always enjoy tuning in. Thank you!
Avatar 5:45pm Christine:

@Holly - Great story! And great band.
Avatar 5:45pm djsheilab:

Thanks @Stevel + @Tome!
  5:46pm Holly from New Zealand:

There's a CRAZY amount of great bands from here, both from the 80's and now. I'm very lucky
  5:47pm Cliff in Prague:

Holly - Terre T did a NZ show a few years back, it was mostly Dunedin bands as I recall
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Rob Kopp:

@Holly: I bought SO many records on the Flying Nun label in the 80's.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Ken From Hyde Park:

As I recall, Brian Turner took a trip to NZ a couple years ago and brought back many stories and albums.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm cosmic matrix:

Sheila B., you are my hero. Thanks for the amazing music!!!!
Avatar 5:50pm Christine:

@Holly - what's some new NZ stuff you'd recommend?
  5:50pm Holly from New Zealand:

Yeah I've heard quite a few local bands played on wfmu, The Dead C, Opposite Sex, The Clean, Snapper (one of my ultimate favs)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Michael 98145:

salutations to the Chills
  5:51pm Cliff in Prague:

I think it was this one - wfmu.org...
  5:52pm modchick65:

I keep hearing her say "Wawa." And it reminds me of Wawa, the convenience store. Not that one shouldn't sing about Wawa the convenience store. In fact, at an old job, three of us would always walk to Wawa for lunch together, and each day there would be a "Wawa Song of the Day." You can sing most songs to include "Wawa" in the lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:52pm Rob Kopp:

If there's any 'OLD' NZ-stuff I could recommend it's, beside The Chills, The Tall Dwarfs. This song starts with 1 instrument and ends with 30! www.youtube.com...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm Michael 98145:

thank you again, wonderful DJ Sheila
Avatar 5:54pm Linda Lee:

modchick65 ~ apparently wawa is equivalent to 'booboo' in english. as i 'i have a booboo'.
  5:54pm Holly from New Zealand:

@Christine.... The Mint Chicks put out a great album called Crazy?Yes!Dumb?No!... anything from early flying Nun, the Skeptics are spectacular, The Clean, Tall Dwarfs, Chris Knox, definitely check out Snapper, Look Blue Go Purple. More modern (not knowing your tastes) Orchestra of Spheres, Opposite Sex...
Avatar 5:54pm Linda Lee:

song apparently says, kiss my booboo.
Avatar 5:54pm Cecile:

Love the Tall Dwarfs and their solo stuff is nothing to sneeze at, either.
  5:55pm Cliff in Prague:

And I somehow won a CD from The Dead C during a WFMU marathon

....thank you Sheila!
Avatar 5:55pm Cecile:

Holly, love LBGP. Also, I liked the Alpaca Brothers, Birds Nest Roys, of course the Bats.
Avatar 5:55pm Linda Lee:

thanks for the list Holly!
  5:56pm Holly from New Zealand:

@Rob, I'm very good friends with two of Chris Knox's kids, so anything with him in it I'm kinda biased
Avatar 5:56pm Cecile:

I love the Dead C. When I can't deal with music, I listen to lots of Dead C.

@Holly- thanks! I know (and like) a little of the Flying Nun stuff, always mean to explore it more. Don't think I know any contemporary NZ sounds.
