"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Listener comments!

Avatar 6:05am duke:

Good morning John. I'm going to miss this show when whatever happens next week happens.
Avatar 6:17am John Allen:

duke, no better time for all weds listeners to help with caffeinated maudlin posts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20am Ken From Hyde Park:

Good morning, JA and duke. It'll be quite an adjustment, that is certain.
Avatar 6:37am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Sad to hear you're leaving this slot, John. Works well for this timezone. I don't always comment but I'm usually listening. I hope you find a new slot soon (and hopefully one that I can listen to live). Much excellent stuff has entered my awareness via your show. Thanks for all the effort that goes into putting these together!
  6:49am Cooh John:

Good morning JA and thanks for all the times getting me over the hump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:55am Dave in Vermont:

Good morning. Thanks for the Wednesday mornings, John.
Avatar 6:55am Sem Chumbo:

That's some show archives you have amassed, John. From a quick look, on air regularly since September 19, 2000.
All that jazz.
Good morning to you, and all..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:02am maestroso:

G'morning JA...will miss this Wednesday morning mainstay. Hope you get another slot soon. Thanks for all the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07am fred:

Good morning John and listeners. I listen from work so my commenting is less invasive than usual at this hour.
Thanks for all, John. Are you planning a punk set?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08am George of Troy:

Good morning, John and crew. I'm really gonna miss this, but fighting the maudlin vibes. Gotta stay positive after the year we've had.

But yeah, you better get back on the air soon, JA.
  7:35am Listener Robert:

This one's long, but never too long for me.
  7:43am Listener Robert:

Just had a thought: Bingo Gazingo if he were still around could've recorded his "Bolero" to the Rocks & Waves instead of either using Ravel's or the semi-improvised (but beautiful) bit by Bob Brainen et al. he used on the CD version.
Avatar 7:44am the Canterbury wood-elf:

i can get into the "spiritual" side of this. Reminds me of Don Cherry's "Organic Music Society" era, as if he and the crew were trying to re-create The Beatles "Flying" instrumental with Afro-Brazilian undertones : )
  7:44am Listener Robert:

(It was R. Stevie Moore, Bob Brainen, & I forgot who else.)
  7:47am Listener Robert:

If someone could isolate Bingo's vocal track (which I think would have to be done by filtering or something because I doubt it was laid on a separate track), it'd be fun to have it overlaid on Rocks & Waves.
Avatar 7:50am the Canterbury wood-elf:

That's funny - I was just thinking about Keith Tippett, ended up reading about him on Wikipedia about 5m ago. I'm guessing he's playing the piano here.
Avatar 7:53am jiepar:

in luv this side of Bowie
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23am Michele:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23am George of Troy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26am Ken From Hyde Park:

Hi, Michele. I got sleepy and dozed off during your show. I did enjoy it up to that point.

@ John Allen: a jewel of a show, surely to be missed. not sure how my mornings are going to go now. wonders and surprises are ahead!
Avatar 8:36am Rev. Turnip Druid:

Ages ago, that Saccharine Trust tune convinced me there might be potential to this punk thing after all. 30+ years later, still not sure. Could have been an isolated incident.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36am northguineahills:

The vinyl crackle is an added bonus on the mary lattimore.....
Avatar 8:40am Scraps:

I will miss your show. I smiled lying down when "You'll Have to Go Sideways" started. Love Underwater Moonlight...
