Listener comments!

  3:11pm Laura L:

By the way, some clips from "I've Got a Secret," 1960, with JJP:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm melinda:

hi Irwin & everyone!
  3:19pm Lygia:

Hello! Awesome music thus far, thank you Irwin!
Avatar 3:20pm Chud:

Can you play something by Steve Bannon?
  3:20pm Matt Warwick:

Please do not play any of my hoof and mouth performances.
  3:21pm Tom:

Your logic is messed up. Only play artist who have already deceased. Problem solved. You're welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Irwin:

Tom: And if they come back as zombies and kill other artists I've played on past shows?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Passaic River Blues:

I got it: limit yourself to airing music by imaginary people and then we'll all be assured eternal life.
  3:24pm Tom:

Well then I stand corrected. Please accept my apology in advance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Parq:

I am not familiar with Perrey, so this is going to be an ear-opener for me. I will add only that "Moog Indigo" is a great album name.
  3:28pm JoeCMorris:

I am not coming back as a zombie but thank you kindly for playing my Don Mcclean/Andy Breckman cover Irwin!
  3:32pm berbo:

I believe in the power of good.
I believe in the state of love.
I will fight for the right to be right.
I will kill for the good of the fight for the right to be right.
"Cygnet Committee". (David Jones)
Avatar 3:43pm Sem Chumbo:

Greetings from Lithuania, Irwin, and all. Ready to hear some Perrey, Ignorant of his work, but willing to learn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Mick:

  3:45pm Jim:

  3:46pm Laura L:

Aw, thanks for the Mighty Mose Allison... I don't worry about a thing... R.I.P.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm Passaic River Blues:

I know he was practically 90 but it still made me sad. Played his version of "Parchman Farm" more than once last night.
  3:53pm Naomi:

Bob Fass!! Yaah!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54pm Parq:

I first heard Mose Allison on a commercial FM "progressive rock" station. That's how old I am.
  3:54pm Joe C Morris:

think Parchment Farm influenced the Monkees Goin Down!
  3:55pm judy from croton:

Mose and amy allison @ collabergh lodge in croton. Remembber that, irwin?
Avatar 3:57pm Dominick:

So fine
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Parq:

These are my favorite Mose songs, too.
  4:01pm Lyle:

I did a short stint as a gongist for Karl Douglas during his short-lived Kung-Fu Fighting period. How strange that we should share a stage with Mose Allison, but in the '70's, anything could happen and usually it did. I once gigged with Minnie Ripperton when we opened for Uriah Heep! Anyway, as I recall Mose was seated stage right as I performed with Karl Douglas. Even though Mose' health was not good, he insisted on bum rushing the stage and engaging in some Kung Fu moves with Karl. Unbeknownst to Mose, Karl was a 3rd Degree Kung Fu practitioner who had studied under Keith "I'm Easy" Carradine, who, like his brother was a master of Kung Fu. In front of an enthusiastic audience of maybe 80 people, Karl did a roundhouse kick that connected with the right side of Mose' head and down the jazz giant went. Cheers went up as our road crew carried Mose backstage. He was ultimately unhurt, but he did drop out of the tour. He was replaced by Oscar Peterson, as I recall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Irwin:

Lyle: I repaired your typo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Parq:

Lyle, the first time I ever heard Earth Wind and Fire was when, ca. 1972, they opened for John Sebastian. Ron Delsner (or whoever was booking these things) had a sense of humor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Ken From Hyde Park:

(Also, Minnie Riperton.)
  4:09pm Lyle:

Thank you, Irwin. My hands aren't as supple on the keyboard as they once were. Parq - Ha! I was at that show. Seated in the upper mezzanine with none other than thee Phil Bodner of Trombones Unlimited. As I recall we smuggled in a bottle of peach schnapps and we became a bit unruly, catcalling to Verdine White who was a good friend until that night.
  4:14pm Brendan:

Nice Irwin -new to Mr Allison. Sounds great.Thinking of Hoagy Carmichael . And the name made me think of the character Mose in the movie The Searchers.
  4:14pm Lyle:

I wasn't aware Mose had passed. Sorry if my comments were posted at an inopportune moment. I'll bet ol' Mose is chuckling in heaven, though, plinking away on the great celestial Chickering.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Irwin:

Lyle, it is my understanding you are mentioned in Mose's will. You might want to be seen at all the memorial events to establish your "cred."
  4:20pm Lyle:

Mose and I shared an affinity for Earth Shoes and we both wore a size 13. I wouldn't be surprised if Mose didn't leave me his collection. Many, many pairs. We used to hunt them down on our off days. Miss him now. Hadn't thought about him for a while.
Avatar 4:21pm northguineahills:

I never listened to Magic Potion, but I always remembered their album cover w/ the out-of-focus lights for some reason...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm melinda:

Earth shoes & peach schnapps, haha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Parq:

Has anyone ever done a show consisting just of versions of "Autumn Leaves"? Maybe it would be worth a shot. Just to be perverse, you could do it in April.
  4:28pm Brendan:

This song is making me hungry.
  4:36pm Dean:

Damn, missed Hatfield, not to mention the Allison tribute.

An "Autumn Leaves" program will have to include the Jarrett trio's almost 27-minute workout. It's a beaut.
  4:44pm judy from croton:

27 minutes of autumn leaves, jarrett-style sounds like heaven.
I am partial to edith piaf singing it in english. One of my earliest musical memories
  4:47pm Chris Christie:

Play "I Finally Got Mine In the End" when you can.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@judy - Hi there. Congratulations to dear Bosco. What a cutie-pie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm steveo:

mobley sounds pretty sweet in the headphones
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Passaic River Blues:

Here we go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm melinda:

Yes, congrats to Bosco!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:58pm melinda:

Enjoying the Mose Allison tribute, looking forward to more Perrey.
  5:06pm Listening Out There:

I'm late, I'm late...
  5:14pm Fred:

a motif of "La Bamba" to this one...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm coelacanth:

greetings Irwin, Wally, you all
  5:27pm Clay:

Great show, Irwin. Must run. Catch you next week.
  5:27pm Popeye:

wtf am I listening to?
Avatar 5:28pm laughingacademy:

Am I nuts, or is "Baroque Hoedown" the theme of the Disney parks Main Street Electrical Parade?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Carmichael:

Late hello, Irwin and peeps. I found the electronic pioneers v/a cd "Ohm" at Goodwill for $2.00. A lot of these artists are on it. A great find.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:31pm Passaic River Blues:

It's hard to believe this exists. I could see the Beatnuts and DJ Premier going nuts with those bleeps.
  5:31pm Clay:

Laughing Academy ... You are right. I was reading about it online today while listening to the show.
  5:33pm Jeremy:

Amazing show, Wally and Irwin!
Passaic: Premier already sampled JJP for Just to Get a Rep
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm Passaic River Blues:

@Jeremy: Thank you--I couldn't remember which Gangstarr song! I think Premier lifted the sample from "Moog Indigo", one of those classic records Tower Records used to sell at a ridiculous discount.
Avatar 5:40pm northguineahills:

Hey, I swear this track is on Katamari Damacy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:41pm Private Presley:

:0 I love this!
  5:42pm Listening Out There:

Frankenstein Space Walk was sampled by...Tipsy?
Avatar 5:43pm Mr. Lowry:

What is it I have that samples this?
Avatar 5:45pm Sem Chumb'o:

Thanks, Irwin and Wally, this has been pretty special. See ya another time.
  5:46pm Aaron:

Irwin, please ask Wally when he's going to release a new Gotye album.
  5:46pm Laura L:

We're taking my 14-year-old niece who will be here from Texas next week to the Ondioline Orch. show. Wonder if there will be CDs for sale?
Avatar 5:48pm drewo:

Thanks Wally and Irwin. Interesting that the bio in Angelo Badalamenti's own website has no reference to this early part of his career. I met AB many years ago when I worked in a print shop in Queens with his (musician) brother Steve.
  5:48pm Laura L:

It was definitely Tipsy that sampled a version of that--probably the Moog Indigo version, right Irwin?
Avatar 5:51pm northguineahills:

I remember finding Perrey records in the thrift store in the 90s when I was a teenager, and having no clue who he was... that sure was a treat!
Avatar 5:54pm northguineahills:

This has been sampled by everyone! (including Stereolab)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm ChrisB.:

Irwin, this had been fascinating! Thank you!
Avatar 5:56pm northguineahills:

Thanks Irwin &Wally!
Avatar 5:56pm northguineahills:

...and DJ Spooky sampled this one!
  5:57pm Jeremy:

Wonderful to hear all these rarities. Lovely Tribute! Thanks Wally and Irwin.
Bonne Nuit JJP...
Avatar 5:57pm Mayuko:

Thoroughly enjoyed the Jean-Jacques Perrey tribute, thank you Irwin and Wally.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Passaic River Blues:

Thank you, Mr. Chusid and Mr. De Backer. This has been goddamned enjoyable.
Avatar 5:59pm dk50b:

Whoaa...gotta listen to the podcast of this show. Friend and I had a college radio show on WRUB called Barnyard in Orbit with Perrey & Kingsley as theme!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:01pm coelacanth:

could do this every few months as far as i'm concerned.
  7:40pm djmoog1:

Cat In The Night was sampled by Tipsy on the Trip Tease record
  7:41pm djmoog1:

Cat In The Night also features some magical sounds from Vinnie Bell and his awesome talent! Vinnie needs a shout out!!
