Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

  6:21pm
Dean:

I'll take a stab at it, Polyus, even though I share your sentiment. Government is not supposed to be a "job." That's why we (these days mistakenly) refer to it as "public service." Since *we* are the government, it's our duty to serve. Some have the wherewithal to do so. Some do not.
Avatar 6:22pm
Linda Lee:

it is still absolutely amazing to me .. how easy we are to manipulate in our thinking. just blows me away.
  6:23pm
Dean:

Put another way, the skills it takes to survive as a politician are not the skills we want in those who govern.
Avatar 6:24pm

absolutely right Dean. fortunately the pols aren't actually the governing powers. heh.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm

I get you, Dean - maybe just a difference in definitions. A politician is a person I vote for with the expectation that they are going to govern.
Avatar 6:25pm
kustomkitten:

I would vote for Alice Cooper in a heartbeat.
  6:26pm
Dean:

Right. One of the skills required of those who govern becomes ... ugh ... to survive as a politician.

Alice is actually a fairly conventional conservative, i hear. fwiw

Avatar 6:29pm

that's a conventional conservative. reasonable. the GOP isn't conventionally conservative. they've hit a wall. ..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:31pm
coelacanth:

i don't know. i hate the terminology.
i'm a conservative and i'm a liberal, depending on what subject one's talking about.
Avatar 6:31pm
Linda Lee:

geezerette. unfortunately i truly, honestly, feel we're too flawed a species to make the effort to come together as we should, in reforming our cultures. & nothing else will do. & even then, the best thing that can happen is that we come together. the climate won't be fixed. it's just too late.

coelacanth, at this point neither term means anything much. .. the conservatives are radical, the liberals are conservatives, & the neo-liberals are neocons.
Avatar 6:33pm

I've been embracing Nihilism more and more in my daily life and found it's REALLY helping my anxiety. If nothing matters, it's hard to justify worrying about the future of humanity!!!

Avatar 6:33pm

Obviously I agree Linda Lee. The prospect of doing absolutely nothing is so horrific though.
Avatar 6:34pm
Linda Lee:

that's just what's happening though. we're doing nothing, collectively, but compounding the problem.
Avatar 6:35pm
Linda Lee:

i think we need to find a way to live, individually, that makes sense to us ~ live mindfully as much as possible ~ & that's all we can do. that is hard enough!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm

...the idea of personal freedom is a conservative idea, if you're referring to the fundamentals of this country. (although that was never granted to people equally...on paper it was supposed to be.)

I think we should still try to slow climate change even if we can't fix it. The odds are bad, but I feel better trying to be part of a collective solution. If I were older I might say to hell with it but I have enough years left to feel invested.

melinda, hopefully we're doing the right thing regardless of where we are in it. the time we feel we have left on earth shouldn't matter .. because, you know, nothing's guaranteed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Ken From Hyde Park:

Some Republican congressman was bragging this morning about having four years of investigations against Hillary lined up ready to go. Arrgh!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:41pm
Mike East:

I don't think we can do much to stop/slow/fix climate change, but I don't think that's a good reason not to stop shitting on the planet.
Avatar 6:41pm
geezerette:

I love our planet. Love our miserable cluless species too. We've made gestures like tearing out lawn & putting drought tolerant plants in a permeable landscape. Led bulbs...you know the litany. It's heartbreaking too see so much denial. So much to say, and also nothing.
Have to preserve hope.
