  3:10pm Tommy Jack Haynes:

Irwin you have better musical taste than Charlie the Truna
  3:10pm Tommy Jack Haynes:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm Michael 98145:

( was vaccination for swine flu virus a thing? i don't recall. )
  3:17pm Tommy Jack Haynes:

Taste in Music..not musical taste..unless there is something musical about your taste . How many ways can I mess up a simple comment
  3:17pm Polyus:

Yes it was, I remember getting the shot in the school gymnasium.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Ike:

Some other wiseacre DJ suggested that this would be an interview with Trish from beyond the grave. How dare he! Irwin would never countenance such nonsense. Got enough Ouija boards, Irwin? Do they work better if you use more of them? Maybe stack 10 or 12 of them on top of each other?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm Michael 98145:

like a Ouija battery cell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm melinda:

hello Irwin and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Ike:

Sick burn on 7SD! I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm JP from KC:

This is worse than the Def Leppard version SM Ken played.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm Irwin:

I love this. Nyah-nyah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm melinda:

Irwin what is your background music?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm Little Danny:

Trish Keenan, hero. A friend once identified HaHa Sound as one of the greatest records ever, any decade, and I'm inclined to agree as the years go on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Irwin:

Mel: can't reveal just yet. A secret.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm melinda:

OK. I'll sit tight.
Avatar 3:47pm Linda Lee:

love hearing Sonny Clark on a catskills wednesday in autumn! ** thank you Irwin! **
Avatar 3:53pm Sem Chumbo:

Hiya, Irwin, and all. Glad I got here before the big reveal.
  3:57pm shanghi1:

Sounds almost like the guitar chords from Faith No More's 'Epic"
Avatar 4:02pm cosmic matrix:

hooray!!!!!!!!! love broadcast. play "black cat"?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Julie:

ahhh Ominous Cloud, nice one
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Little Danny:

Seems like a lotta Broadcast fans fall into either the Haha Sound camp or the Tender Buttons camp
  4:05pm Robert Conroy:

Already sobbing.... Broadcast was the one of the best band ever!!! Damn, I miss Ms. Trish's
voice! And thank you for playing my pale attempt to capture Broadcast's majesty, Irwin.
Avatar 4:08pm Monica:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm Irwin:

Monica Lynch introduced me to Broadcast by giving me their 1st US release (this album playing now).
  4:09pm Tommy Jack Haynes:

Thanks for bringing Trish Keenan to my attention. I love this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10pm Passaic River Blues:

My favorite rendition of "Paper Cuts" is the live version from the Paris Black Session in 2000. The album cut is also pretty damn near perfect.
Avatar 4:12pm cosmic matrix:

pure delight
  4:12pm Nina:

I am new to Broadcast, but Trish Keenan had a beautiful voice!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm chris:

this is soo purty.. thanks, Irwin.
Swag For Life Member 4:15pm nightjeans:

broadcast is the best. i cannot stop listening to this band lately
  4:15pm Robert Conroy:

Words fail....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16pm Irwin:

Broadcast was a great BAND. And they wrote hauntingly beautiful songs.
Avatar 4:16pm cosmic matrix:

  4:16pm phillip in the bronx:

am in tears at the moment:-(:::::::::::
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Little Danny:

@Irwin: So right that Trish/Broadcast never made a bad recording
Avatar 4:17pm cosmic matrix:

this song is so inspired, over-the-top
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm Bronwyn Bishop:

Lovely show Irwin
Avatar 4:17pm cosmic matrix:

WHOOOO!!!!!!! another amazing one...like black cat
Avatar 4:18pm cosmic matrix:

oh, hahaha it IS black cat! my bad....thank u :)))))
  4:18pm Robert Conroy:

They were astonishingly good live, also!
  4:19pm phillip in the bronx:

why did she have to go to australia and catch the bird flu
  4:20pm Nina:

This is beautiful music, thank you Irwin- great show today.
  4:21pm phillip in the bronx:

well...another day when im an emotional wreck
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm Kat in Chicago:

The Book Lovers was the first Broadcast song I heard, via the Austin Powers soundtrack (which has some other good ones as well)
  4:25pm phillip in the bronx:

my favorites are "black cat" and "come on lets go"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:26pm Kat in Chicago:

I love "Black Cat" too, and "Michael Agrammar"
Avatar 4:27pm cosmic matrix:

shared tears.
  4:27pm veever:

Ending of The Book Lovers is perfect
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm melinda:

This is lovely.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Kat in Chicago:

Remember DJ Trent? My first thought when I heard Trish had passed was literally "Oh no, Trent will be so upset!"
  4:29pm Patrik:

many thanks for the set, bringing back so many good memories, have loved Broadcast for many years <3 <3 <3
  4:29pm phillip in the bronx:

such a beautiful voice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm Ike:

That's "The Noise Made by People", singular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & the price is right - the cost of one Admission is your Mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Passaic River Blues:

  4:37pm Robert Conroy:

United States of America!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Bronwyn Bishop:

The United States of America - such a crazy fun album
  4:37pm jan:

Trish Keenan - Beautiful sound. And I got that connection with The United States of America- had that
record back in 68 and enjoyed it for many plays, but it was left behind after college.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The American Metaphysical Circus - 1968 - Year of the Earth Monkey
...this ain't the Summer of Love...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Kat in Chicago:

This song and The Book Lovers share references to Hermann Hesse's "Steppenwolf".
  4:40pm berbo:

2016 == Year of the Fire Monkey
  4:43pm Steve Paljusevic:

she was super cool
saw the band once at the magic stick in detroit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes it is berbo.
A lady singer like the Airplane, but no Guitars. Electronics like Silver Apples - but not that...Weirdo Post-'67 Dark Psych like Ultimate Spinach, but much smarter...Arch non-Cali like the Velvets, but not that junkie thing...Yes it's an interesting album...it even reminds me of Urban Cowboy - that last years of the 60s Existential but still Earnest thing...
Wow this Broadcast. A little like Stereolab w/ words, or His Name Is Alive around the edges. Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

For a gifted but presumably under recognized Alternative Artist to die in their 40s of pneumonia is a little too pointed. I hate this...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...*Midnight Cowboy (jayzus)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:52pm Passaic River Blues:

For those who are interested, James Cargill has great stuff on his Soundcloud page.
Avatar 4:53pm Monica:

listening, irwin. beautiful. huge credit to steve knutson - formerly of tommy boy and now the proprietor of audika (arthur russell releases) - who brought broadcast to tommy boy (via warp) and shepherded their projects there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Michael 98145:

Thank you for this. So much of this music is new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yeah - instant fan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Kat in Chicago:

PRB - thanks, I had just been wondering what James Cargill was doing these days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:55pm Irwin:

We're not quittin' at 5:00. Trish forever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Passaic River Blues:

@Kat - I'm not sure what he's done. The stuff on SC is mostly retrospective (mixes, demo versions, Trish reading, etc.) but it's awesome. soundcloud.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm chris:

yeah, screw that show that comes on after this one, Irwin.. six seconds of eternity, or whatever its called. :D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:57pm Carmichael:

This music qualifies as "haunting", especially in consideration of her untimely exit.
  4:58pm person:

Thank you.
  4:58pm mavrg:

Great show! I like that you played The Presidents of the United States. I heard Broadcast first, and worked my way back to their influences. Some great music I may have never heard otherwise. Such as the White Noise LP. For a more recent band that's similar to Broadcast (and Stereolab) there's Death and Vanilla, from Sweden, who have some pretty good records out and about.
  4:59pm Patrik:

gimmie some witch cults era!! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00pm Dave in Vermont:

which cults era?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm Ike:

Witch Cults for President 2016!
  5:01pm Jeremy:

I was there at that Maxwells show, which was I think with Pram?
Avatar 5:02pm C.S.:

Thanks to Julie for letting her upside down bats know about this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:02pm Kat in Chicago:

@PRB I went to the Soundcloud and realized I was following it already :) He did post something new a few days ago. I'm not finding much in a general search.
Avatar 5:03pm C.S.:

Broadcast was one of those signature bands that really made my return to college radio listening (after a long absence) so very memorable.
  5:03pm Seth:

I totally forgot about the Tommy Boy connection. I first heard of Broadcast when Drag City sent us a promo copy of "Work and Non Work". Instant crush!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Passaic River Blues:

@Kat - Oh man, you're right! A new mix!
  5:06pm Beej:

Thanks for this Irwin! I was at that Maxwell's show in 2000. It was incredible. Saw them a bunch after too. Trish was pretty special. Sadly the last time I saw her was doing a duet at The Troubadour with Vincent Gallo. I choose to remember that first show though.
  5:07pm Seth:

Saw them twice: once right after The Noise Made By People, when they still had a full band; and again on their last tour co-headlining with Atlas Sound.
  5:07pm Jeremy:

Growing up my folks only had 3 Beatles albums, the 1st Bee Gees and the United States of America, which my father had been given by a friend who was managing them. When I got a little older I could never understand why no one knew the USA, having no idea that there were lots of records/bands in the world and lots of them got signed to Columbia in 1968! Not a lot of that caliber however....as with Broadcast.
  5:08pm karen eliot:

I saw them @ El Ray Theatre-2000. Fabulous! Love this show.
  5:08pm kathleen:

Wow - great to hear the us of america. Didn't recognize it til the line, "and the price is tight, the cost of one admission is your mind" & it was like i heard it yesterday. Don't remember where I heard it, but it seems like somebody played it quite a bit. Maybe on WNEW? Or it could have been FMU. Don't know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Irwin:

"All Broadcast's songs sound the same," said no one ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:12pm Kat in Chicago:

I only saw Broadcast once, on the Chicago stop of the last tour. They were lovely. (Not the best Atlas Sound set I've ever seen, though.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

In and out of the house & car this afternoon. Cracking show today, Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:17pm Passaic River Blues:

The tone of the organ (or whatever that is) on this song slayed me the first time I heard as a college freshman and it still does.
  5:17pm Jeremy:

I love the way they record the drums, with so much air around them. I think they recorded them in a church for one album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

This is a little like learning about Scott Miller on efd's - exactly when it was too late. Mind-blowing, exciting & deeply sad all @ once.
  5:19pm Robert Conroy:

Crying at work during that last one. Very embarrassing....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:20pm Irwin:

Pull yourself together, Rob.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:23pm Kat in Chicago:

@RevRabbit better late than never. I'm still upset about Scott Miller too. I was a Game Theory fan for years. Found out only then that he was only two weeks older than me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Carmichael:

@kat: I used to play a lot with Scott and his crew. I was in a competitive band in Davis at the time. Good guy ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:28pm Kat in Chicago:

wow Carmichael!
  5:28pm Tom chiu of FLUX:

This whole show is frickin awesome, Irwinster.....
  5:29pm Robert Conroy:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:29pm Passaic River Blues:

I have definitely never heard this before. THANK YOU.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:30pm coelacanth:

i quite like this
Avatar 5:32pm C.S.:

Music that puts me in another place and time. :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm Carmichael:

@kat: I was friends with Nancy Becker, the original keyboard player. I didn't think it was any big deal at the time ...
Avatar 5:36pm SheWolf:

I'm learning a lot and listening to a lot of great music here. Thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Julie:

Definitely going to have to re-listen to this when I can JUST Listen and not have to do other things.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:37pm Kat in Chicago:

@Carmichael yeah it took a little while for their full genius to reveal itself
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...compares favorably to His Name Is Alive, even? Kind of awed...
Avatar 5:41pm Mr. Lowry:

I wondered if this was the same Broadcast!
  5:42pm Seth:

Never thought to compare Broadcast to HNIA
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Like a combination of Syd's Floyd W/ U.S. of A. & Stereolab. Stunning. & not a little lysergic.
Avatar 5:45pm C.S.:

I might get in trouble for asking but what genre would Broadcast fit into? Back in the early 2000s, I caught a few artists with a 1960s retro feel to them..The Bristols, April March and Dallas just to name a few. Lots of Britpop came out around that time but I'm not sure how other fans of Broadcast feel about the term. Always wondered.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Little Danny:

There is an excellent John Peel sesh with an absolutely incredible version of "Long Was the Year."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:47pm Little Danny:

Also that Broadcast/Focus Group collab is tremendously underrated
  5:48pm popsicornia:

You've come through again Irwin. Gorgeous set from a long under recognized band. I had no idea of the Monica Connection. The woman is everywhere!!
  5:48pm Seth:

That collab was the gateway to all the wonderful Ghost Box Recordings artists / releases, including a solo album by former Broadcast keyboardist, Roj.
  5:50pm Robert Conroy:

They were such amazing songwriters! There is always a great tune in there, no matter how zany the rest of the track gets!
Avatar 5:51pm cosmic matrix:

thank you!!! so great, what a blessing, them, and you, and us, and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Webhamster Henry:

Thanks for resurrecting Ms. Keenan, Irwin.
Avatar 5:51pm Parq:

This has been lovely. Except for "Michael A. Grammar", I wasn't familiar with any of this. Thanks for all the effort that went into the show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Passaic River Blues:

Thanks for the info for follow up, Danny and Seth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Kat in Chicago:

Ghost Box is wonderful indeed
  5:54pm Patrik:

many thanks again Irwin! <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm chris:

thank you, Irwin!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:55pm Michael 98145:

touching tribute
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:57pm Irwin:

Thank you all for coming to Trish's birthday party. Tragically, she could not be here. But she provided the music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Passaic River Blues:

Many thanks, Mr. Chusid.
  5:58pm Seth:

Thanks, Irwin! And thank you, Trish.
  5:59pm Maikurohon:

Great selection. Thank you, Irwin
  5:59pm Listening Out There:

Thanks again....
  5:59pm Don Gordeto:

thanks for the tribute, Irwin!
  11:24pm Thomas Smith:

Tuning in to your show after many shows Irwin, today. Blown away by the late Ms. Keenan. What was the song with the line, "All Circles Mesh"?
  11:25pm Thomas Smith:

What was the song with the line, "All Circles Mesh?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:17pm Passaic River Blues:

@Thomas Smith: if you ever come back, sir, the song is "The Be Colony" by Broadcast and the Focus Group (though I think the line is "all circles vanish").
