Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar 12:36pm still b/p:

Backing up a bit, Poco's Crazy Love might fit on the Yacht Rock satellite music channel. Listened to it a while on a shared ride recently. Driver says at least 50% of tracks have Michael McDonald on back-up or lead. He mentioned the SCTV bit where Moranis as McDonald runs in and out of studio to sing a back-up line at exactly the necessary moment. Minutes later, we heard the song from that bit on the channel, Christopher Cross Ride Like the Wind. Given the period favored by the channel, I knew Ambrosia would also show up shortly and they did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm Goyim in the AM:

It's now two songs ago, and my wife is still furious that anyone would even attempt to write an erotic dentist song. She doesn't like dentists.
Avatar 12:37pm ndbob:

@Goyim there area bunch of erotic dentist songs actually
  12:38pm Dean:

Dentists are all about the oral.

At least Ambrosia wrote a song based on a Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., novel.

I've often heard that Mel's live record with George Shearing, "An Evening With...," is a good intro to the singer, too. Haven't heard the album yet, though.

I saw KSA back in the late 80s. That was a hoot. But after discovering other West African music, I kind of lost interest.

Bassist is Brian Torff, who long played with Shearing and, later, Laurence Hobgood, in a sweet Evans-esque piano trio, Union.
