Avatar 9:09am Joe McG:

Hi, everybody! Welcome to the show. @bob: Early birds get the worms. @sphere: They had a few, just none of them in the U.S.

  9:14am KP:

$75 dollar bill is good for a change

Avatar 9:26am Sem Chumbo:

Love this language and the snappy uke pickin'. Can Gabby Pahinui be far behind?
Avatar 9:29am Joe McG:

@Sem: I brought in that Ry Cooder LP with Gabby on it and forgot about it, so there goes that transition! :)
Avatar 9:32am Sem Chumbo:

Huh. Live radio, what are ya gonna do:-D
  9:33am KP:

Hey over the air radio is a great solution to this iffy Internet thing

Enjoying the new Britta Phillips album.
Avatar 9:46am Wild Neil:

Dean and Britta were in some movie about a high powered executive cheating on his wife with a high powered woman in the supermarket market. The woman had a hissy fit during a board meeting and got away with it. This is the first time I saw Britta Philips. Wow, she is well-preserved.
Avatar 9:48am Cecile:

she's 2 years younger than I am...
Avatar 9:50am Wild Neil:

@Cecile sorry I offended you...that came out wrong to be sure! You have always been fair to me and I appreciate that...
Avatar 9:52am Cecile:

sorry, I was just amused.
It's hard to think of oneself and ones age-group as old, but we technically are!
Avatar 9:52am Cecile:

My knees know they are. I had to run to the bus today, and everyone laughed at my little stiff legged jog - "c'mon you can do it!"
Avatar 9:53am Wild Neil:

I am still 17 in my mind...but almost 50 in my body. Yikes, the 60's used to be "twenty years ago"...but wait, that's like 30 years ago...geez....
Avatar 9:53am Wild Neil:

I love Hashish! Wait, that came out wrong...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am melinda:

Avatar 10:07am Wild Neil:

SERIOUS 80's nostalgia now...I was in tenth grade...
Avatar 10:09am Cecile:

I think I was 70 when this came out.
Avatar 10:10am βrian:

There's a fine line between 80s nostalgia and 80s neuralgia.
Avatar 10:11am Wild Neil:

Hey, if I graduated in 1985, was it really 1986 the day I walked down the aisle cap and gown or was it really June 1985? I am confused now about if I started kindergarten at age 4...
Avatar 10:12am Cecile:

I like early Depeche Mode. I like the idea of Erasure.
Avatar 10:14am βrian:

As far as the clothing store, I used to remember it's name as The Lapse.
  10:18am KP:

Prop with Gap Dream is sales people think Gap Band and succeed in confusing me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20am annie:

if i recall some little ditty on TCM discusssing hattie mcaniel, she was a very vocal human rights advocate, both for women and for minorities in film and on stage?
Avatar 10:21am Cecile:

Okay, I now like Erasure's cover of Gaudete.
Avatar 10:23am Wild Neil:

Never mind, I called North Warren Regional High School and they cleared it up...I graduated in June of 1985...and started kindergarten at age 5 in 1972..all is in order with the universe now..oh yeah, Pylon, they were in Athens Inside Out...I saw this in the village near 4th street in the 80's...that was like so 20th century. They were really out there for back then as I was discovering this whole world of college radio and REMs colleagues.
Avatar 10:24am Joe McG:

@annie: Yes, Annie, she was quite a lady! She also won an Academy Award.
Avatar 10:24am Wild Neil:

Morning, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:25am Santos L. Halper:

Hey Joe, thanks for the Pylon, and that first set was wonderful. Tuning in from Montreal for the next couple weeks. Any tourist recommendations from anyone out there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:26am Guido from Cologne:

I love this section!
Avatar 10:27am Joe McG:

Hey Greg! Glad you enjoyed the LONG set, Santos! I'm eager to hear Montreal recommendations, too, since I'd like to go up there in the fall...
Avatar 10:28am βrian:

@Santos: is the Cinéma Parallèle still around? I used to go there when I could in the late 80s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28am annie:

her movie career was quite extensive and prolific.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29am Guido from Cologne:

... guitar solos as they should be ...
Avatar 10:30am Wild Neil:

I think Elfin Saddle is from Montreal, so maybe you could catch them...they have like two good songs.
Avatar 10:30am βrian:

Ah, it seems to have closed ...
Avatar 10:31am Sem Chumbo:

Wiggy sounds, Joe.
Avatar 10:32am βrian:

As far as the beers I remember and love: Ste Ambroise and Boréale.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am annie:

early muppets rocked!!
Avatar 10:38am Wild Neil:

Is it just me or does Kermit sound like the guy that does the Monk theme song?
  10:38am melinda:

Aw, muppets! Thanks Joe.
Avatar 10:38am Sem Chumbo:

I love THE Quebecois IPA, Irregular Poutine Ale @ βrian.
Avatar 10:39am Cecile:

I love Chromeo and they put on the best shows.
I also had a great sandwich at Titanic in Montreal when I was up there a long time ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39am JP from KC:

OH HELL YES, JOE!! MUPPETS!! Things like his are why I'm pretty sure we should be best friends.
  10:39am melinda:

The Bran Flakes sampled this to good effect in one of their songs.
Avatar 10:40am Wild Neil:

As a kid I always wanted to live the furthest west as possible in a time zone so I could stay outside late for the late sunset in June.

Avatar 10:44am Joe McG:

Glad to hear it, Jack! Everyone, slowly but surely, swag is leaving the building. If you don't have yours yet, don't worry.
Avatar 10:45am Sem Chumbo:

Yes @Cecile, a highlight of any trip to Montreal, no doubt,
Avatar 10:45am βrian:

And Montreal is bagel-central, of course.

Avatar 10:59am bobdoesthings:

@joemcg- i'm into it! I was indulging in it. like an ASMR response.
Avatar 11:01am Wild Neil:

This show is really summer-y. This is the music I imagine playing at a drive in theatre an hour before showtime...in the 50's
Avatar 11:01am Cecile:

wow, you forget about the 50s hits before rock 'n' roll.
And this song kind of makes you remember why.
Avatar 11:02am Brian in UK:

Marsupial is a good word.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Greg from ZONE 5:

Until this Monkees version came out I had no idea Carol King wrote it. Just Byrds
Avatar 11:15am Cecile:

beau brummels!
Avatar 11:20am Brian in UK:

Easy Rider was one of the first films to match music and film. Beatles notwithstanding. The Wasn't Born to Follow scene is spot on unlike a lot of the rest of the film. Looks dated now but in '69 I thought it was great.
Avatar 11:20am bobdoesthings:

these lyrics are great ... "hey remember when we killed that poor guy in mexico... ya.. best not to think about it.. what a weird day"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20am ChrisB.:

I've heard rumors of a Danny and Dusty re-boot for some time now.
Avatar 11:21am Joe McG:

@bob: Ah, nostalgia! @BrianUK: Sheila B. did a nice Chip Taylor day a few weeks ago! Check out her archives.

re: "The Last Ritual"
Always saw this LP listed in in Capitol numbered lists and was a bit curious, but saw all the long tracks... Glad to be hearing it for first time. Never reissued, huh?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am Michael 98145:

This is mostly all new to me. Thank you.
Avatar 11:40am Joe McG:

@Mike Sin: Not to my knowledge. Produced by Tom Wilson. A very interesting LP: a bit of country, a bit of jazz, a bit of horn rock. Very involved, interesting lyrics.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am Linda Lee:

at one time covering as many genres per disk as feasible was de rigeur! i do recall.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am Linda Lee:

indeed, LL is old enough to remember when this was happenin.
Avatar 11:46am Cecile:

I remember the first Zapp album of all things having country (!!!) and rock tinged deep cuts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Linda Lee:

indeed. crossover was the game. even in mainstream radio.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Linda Lee:

not so many sturdy boxes.
i have a 5 disc set of nashville stars doing current pop/light rock hits, early 70s vintage. that's 5 albums worth.
Avatar 11:50am Sem Chumbo:

Big fun this morning, Joe. Thanks a lot, and see you again next time.
Love this Dolly, btw.
Avatar 11:50am Cecile:

also, loads of these bands had to play live anything and anywhere to be able to make a living at music.

Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

Thanks for listening and commenting, all! Have a GREAT week!
Avatar 11:55am Cecile:

someone was complaining on slate that the old chart system should come back so that an album can really be the "album of the year". I personally loved it when Sound Scan upended everything in the 80s. It reflected what people were actually listening to.
