Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09am listener james from westwood:

I have a former workmate, a Yorkshireman living in the US, who took himself off Facebook years ago bc he couldn't keep from getting keyed up and pulled into online rows, for whom I'm genuinely concerned right now. He could well stress himself into the hospital over this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am doctorjazz:

Have some personal problems resulting from the Brexit vote as well, man, this is the year voters defy the pundits (and common sense).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:15am Andrew Waterloo:

I was in New Castle last week and the Sun was just brutal. We didn't talk about it.

Trying to look at the bright side: this might be a good time to order that fine handcrafted English bass guitar, at least until the luthiers have to burn their wood stocks for fuel. Morning, all. Trying to avoid any far right glee here in Austria, successful so far.

we did backline for Public Enemy earlier this week. Good morning, Hinky Dinkers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46am Uncle Michael:

How was that experience?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Mike East:

Well, from my end it was mostly just reading emails, typing things into a computer and purchasing things like bass strings, drum sticks, guitar picks and turntable cartridges...so not really much fun. One of my colleagues actually got to go to the gig. By all accounts a great day at the park, but I doubt he really cared much about the music.

Good catch Lewis. Corrected...thank you!

Goo' morning. Don't think I recognized Hot Canary, but...well, it completes me. Regarding cartoon/life reference and integration and influence -- I was trying yesterday to figure out how succinctly I could describe Clyde Crashcup (and his Richard Haydn-mimicking voice) and his shtick to someone as an example of a character option they might try in stage performance.

Would never have known about cumbia or Chicha Libre if not for FMU. Eternally grateful.

I've always been interested in cartoon music, and the large amounts of Raymond Scott played on WFMU was attractive to me! Carl Stalling's soundtracks for Warners, bereft of Mel Blanc and other voices are on the Carl Stalling Project recordings. At MGM, Scott Bradley did admirable work. Then there's also the great Fleischer Brothers sound tracks. The idea of an almost free associative yet rigorously programmatic music is very appealing!

Someone tracked down Brittan (?) and he sort of wants nothing to do with the Dec thing now but also seemed sort of miffed that it's blown up so big over the years without much props to him.

Some suspected her of a liaison with O'Ryan. Nothing but squirrels

No, @Jeff, I was serious. I now recall having heard the "Judas" story, but like so much it didn't stick with me. I recently heard an interview with ... somebody (again, didn't stick) ... regarding Newport (not Manchester). The interviewee tried to argue that the booing at Newport had nothing to do with Dylan's going electric. Rather, it had to do with an extreme delay in the band's appearance and a really short show, because the band had only rehearsed at moment's notice a few tunes. Or something to that effect.

Hear hear! This show has been hours of entertainment!

Also, we've spoken of auctions and the Maine coast and proofreading. This involves all three:
a video for auction of very a high end property on the island Isleboro boasts of the region's early sun and says, “…that's because these islands are 300 miles farther east than any other point in the United States."
That's crazy wrong, unless I'm confused, it's bafflingly waaaaaay off. Even Doug will be farther east in Stonington; much of the NE United States is within 300 miles. I can't figure what angle of geography, distance or common sense got kerflugled. Among all the people involved, no one said, "Wait a minute..."
A little proofing, maybe, when you're pitching a many-million dollar product...?
