Has some Prodigal Son in there...Very pretty. Makes me want to dust off my Martin (or be afraid to dust off my Martin).

Hear John Fahey as an influence...(not so profound an observation, I guess).
  2:22pm
Dean:

Also hearing Fahey, of course, but what nags me is how this reminds me of a show in Covina, CA, at a guitar shop, The Fret House, featuring a Kottke acolyte whose name I can not remember! This would have been in the '80s, maybe early '90s.

This guys a pretty young thing 20's maaaaybe early 30s. carrying the torch.
  2:26pm
Dean:

As was the guitarist I heard in Covina...at the time!

Loving the second set as well, Gladden and Gladden (a law firm, I presume).

Doug Schulkind:

This show is Gladdening.

David W:

If you can hear them (I hope) Che Chen has some fascinating little sounds floating in and out throughout.

I first met Che when he came to the Outpost to transfer a bunch of
wedding videos filled with Africans. So I was like why was this Asian american guy shooting weddings in Mauritania?? Turns out he went there to study guitar with this Mauritanian guitar master whose main gigs are weddings and Che now plays desert guitar like nobody's business.

I shine a little light on Ruth and, click, she goes silent.

Bill Brovold is a graduate of the Glen Branca school of hard knocks from waaaay back in the 80's

Really like Jamie Saft, though I know him as a pianist/organist. never heard him on guitar (is it the same guy?)
This makes a nice arc with the other guitar set.
  3:51pm
David W:

It is interesting that Brovold from Branca world and Saft from Zorn world wind up playing introspective porch music. At least for now.
  3:52pm
David W:

Same guy. Thanks for noticing the arc.

Wouldn't have thought Branca for this
It is such an interesting pairing, and where they went..

Who's the slide guitarist?
Great show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm
weinstein&ruth:

Saft on slide. It's kinda hazy so could be wrong.

I'd love to catch this duo live (going around the Ridgewood venues sounds great to me in general), thanks for the show, get to live vicariously.

linton:

brovold was more of a rhys chatham than a glenn branca guy... but let's not get too picky... jamie is playing lapsteel on this gig and he sings on that thing... they have duet gig coming up early july... can't remember the venue at the moment... somewhere in brooklyn i believe...
