Hello Irwin. Await some surprise selections. Knock it out the park.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Interference from pirate radio stations? I hear singing over the top of Lee Morgan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:04pm rrg:

Your microphone is on.
Avatar 3:04pm Parq:

With everyone's permission, I will point out that this is pretty much how I start each and every one of my working days.
  3:04pm Cliff:

I can't tell if this is intentional or not, thanks WFMU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:05pm rrg:

It is easier to receive forgiveness than permission, Parq.
  3:05pm Cliff:

Ken from HP - not unless the pirates have also hacked the web stream

Always downshift into second before pulling a steep hill.
Avatar 3:14pm Parq:

And, in response to the subject line of today's Seven Second Delay email blast, let me add that it never occurs to me that Ken and Andy have reached the bottom. Just never.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:16pm Webhamster Henry:

My daughter and I saw Marco perform last weekend - he was very impressive!
  3:18pm Cliff:

Hey, I like Ativan!
  3:20pm Ryan:

Who Is John Galt?
  3:23pm wild neil:

peace Irwin et al.
  3:24pm Cliff:

The failures make the successes that more visionary in comparison
  3:24pm berbo:

as a reminder, you have to play two songs by each artist, as is customary on Two For Tuesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm Irwin:

No, today is Three for Thursday!
  3:25pm Cliff:

Actually it's Meleventeen for Monday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm redkayak:

Wofo Wednesday...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Irwin:

It's WTF! Wednesday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Am I the only person to refer to it as Wacky Wednesday?
Avatar 3:41pm V Priceless:

hey Irwin - this is super!!
Avatar 3:41pm SueAdynamo:

what is happening here? it's all in Minor?
  3:41pm Cliff:

Irwin, did you take something today that makes everything sound a half-step out of key?
  3:41pm Polyus:

  3:41pm Listener142985:

Minor genius here
Swag For Life Member 3:41pm BarbR:

Wow, this is making me nauseous!
  3:42pm Polyus:

There are a bunch of these on YouTube. Check out the Katy Perry song if you really want to loose it.
Avatar 3:42pm SueAdynamo:

me too a little Barb
  3:42pm Polyus:

Lose, rather.
Avatar 3:42pm Parq:

This minor Wolf is kind of disconcerting.
Avatar 3:43pm V Priceless:

Dire Wolf mix
Avatar 3:43pm Parq:

V-Pricel, for however many of them are left at this point.
  3:43pm Cliff:

I also like the ones where they slow them down 800%, even Justin Bieber
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm redkayak:

This song was dreadful to me on a good day!
  3:44pm Polyus:

Just like the time your coworkers all got drunk and did karaoke.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Alison Porchnik:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I suddenly feel a headache coming on. Is it this song or the leftover sandwich I ate earlier today?
Avatar 3:45pm Jeff:

Apropos of nothing in particular...

Irwin, Bob Dylan's latest album of American Songbook standards is in the digital music library.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm Irwin:

Did Ken play most of it this mornin'?
Avatar 3:48pm Jeff:

Not sure he played any.

Gosh, look what's up on DAW1...
  3:48pm Cliff:

He did, we couldn't make him stop.
Avatar 3:50pm Jeff:

Don't see any of 'em in his playlist.
  3:50pm Cliff:

I might be blatantly lying.
Avatar 3:51pm Jeff:

There's that.
Avatar 3:55pm Jeff:

If you haven't heard ol' Bob croaking out Polka Dots and Moonbeams...

well, then you haven't heard ol' Bob croaking out Polka Dots and Moonbeams.

He's actually pretty gentle and sincere about it.

Long instrumental intro, though. You start thinking, "Is ol' Bob going to sing on this one or not?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm rrg:

It's a great album.
Avatar 4:00pm Parq:

You gotta figure, it can't sound that different from "Nashville Skyline".
Avatar 4:00pm Jeff:

I haven't had much time with it yet.

I came to like Shadows in the Night much more than I expected to, though. Especially the smaller, more intimate and personal sounding songs. The ones trying to be big and dramatic, not so much - that's more Roy Orbison territory.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Ĩkє:

All right, come clean! Who dosed Irwin with dog tranquilizers?!
Avatar 4:05pm AnAnonymousParty:

I thought he got replaced by Mr. Rogers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08pm Alison Porchnik:

Ike, it wasn't dog tranquilizers - he's been looking at pictures of cats on the internet.
  4:25pm Courtney of Morris:

What would a meet up of joe frank fans look like I wonder
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:27pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Ĩkє - X.Ray Burns may have access to dog tranquilizers. He's your prime suspect, I think.
  4:29pm Anonymous Coward:

@Courtney, Probably similar to a This American Life meetup.

Now a meetup of Joe Frank characters...
  4:31pm Cliff:

Veterinary meds, I knew it
  4:32pm Cliff:

(P.S. Anyone got any ketamine?)
  4:32pm Courtney of Morris:

Ugh @ this American life
  4:35pm John Martin:

This is a joe frank song?
Avatar 4:36pm Parq:

Digging this background music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm Webhamster Henry:

Joe is so credible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:51pm Ike:

Love the music loop on this one.
  4:53pm Jeffrey Powers:

What a great piece
Avatar 4:55pm ironybread:

Irwin, did you hear Benji Hughes' album "A Love Extreme" eight years ago? He finally released a follow-up this year. It's called "Songs in the Key of Animals". I don't think anyone at FMU has played it yet. The song "Girls Love Shoes" is ridiculous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Irwin:

IB: No, haven't. Can you pls mail a link to irwin@wfmu.org? It'll remind me later.
Avatar 5:00pm ironybread:

Will do.
Avatar 5:00pm ottovonbqe:

What a fantastic Joe Frank episode. Does anyone know where the German text comes from?
Avatar 5:01pm Parq:

Okay, now I gotta check out this Judith Owen.
Avatar 5:03pm rbxbx:

Really enjoyed Joe Frank – new to me :)
  5:04pm Cliff:

I remember when I first started listening to WFMU, the Thursday night lineup was an hour of Joe Frank, followed by an hour of Alan Watts, followed by.....MUSIC TO SPAZZ BY WITH DAVE THE SPAZZ!!
  5:05pm but page:

Enjoying everything tunes while in the pool
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Irwin:

Judith Owen is Harry Shearer's wife. Don't know if she's made any recordings. If you discover otherwise, post here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:09pm Michael 98145:

Thank you. Moondog music gets played too infrequently.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Irwin:

Cliff: For several years now Joe has been part of WTF! Wednesday.
Avatar 5:11pm Parq:

Get out, really? As for her recording, Wikipedia lists a discography.

Avatar 5:13pm Parq:

As for Moondog, the thing I find most poignant about his story is that (as I assume your guest will get into, since it is in his book that I learned of this), when he moved to Europe (Germany, to be specific), he found every bit of the adulation as a celebrated and serious modern-classical composer that he was always denied in the States. Small wonder he spent the rest of his life there.
  5:13pm Cliff:

Yep Irwin, this had to have been back around 2001-02, I don't think Alan Watts has been played on the station since then. (Unless I imagined it all, but I was a teetotaler back in those days)
  5:15pm Cliff:

But yeah, that transition from Zen lectures to chimpanzees, that was something
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm rrg:

Judith Owen has recorded and toured with Richard Thompson. She's very present on his "1000 Years of Popular Music". Among other things.
Avatar 5:20pm Jeff:

Songs in the Key of Animals:

Avatar 5:20pm ironybread:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Michael 98145:

Ooh, re: Judith Owen ... and i quote: -A Judith signature is also to turn the most unlikely song inside out. She’s done it before with her tongue-in-cheek adaptation of the Deep Purple rock anthem ‘Smoke On The Water’ and Mungo Jerry’s irresistible, irresponsible and politically incorrect ‘In The Summertime’. -
Avatar 5:37pm ironybread:

Also not to miss is her cover with Harry of Spinal Tap's "Christmas with the Devil" www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The sugarplums are rancid & the reindeer are in chains...because it's Satan's Holiday.
Buenas Abend.
  5:46pm jan:

Irwin, Working away at the desk, had to stop and write to you in approval of the third hour!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:48pm Irwin:

Hope I don't ruin it, Jan, with some contemporary country or AMANDA! What're the chances?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...why couldn't The Shins just stay together & keeping doing this kinda stuff...Is there a Shins now?...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Irwin:

There's Broken Bells, which isn't the Shins but it's Shin-sy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:50pm Irwin:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Ta....The B-Bells connected to the Shinstones...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:54pm JP from KC:

There's so much Neil Young influence in this track, I'm surprised there isn't a royalty agreement.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I've Seen the Legal & the Damage Won...Expecting to Litigate...like it's a bad thing...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm JP from KC:

Well played, RRN63. Well played...
  5:57pm Fredericks:

This Isbell is beautiful. Thanks Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm JP from KC:

Seriously, though. I've loved Jason Isbell since I first heard him while I was working in Nashville four or five years ago.
  5:59pm Cliff:

Thanks fer the show today Irwin!
  6:00pm jan:

Havent't spoiled it yet, and Berman is a delight. Speaking of Amanda, I just had your marathon premium of the same name in my hands yesterday, as yet unplayed! And the Jazz Messengers, which I'll be uploading to my itunes. Your recent attentions to Jazz has been mightily informative to ears that knew little of the genre, and found the most recent Jazz to be just the sort of irritating saxaphone bleatings you mentioned earlier. The show is over?
  6:00pm Fredericks:

I mostly know him through the Truckers. This is a side I had heard from him.
