Yeah, Todd-o! Move it!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm Gaylord Fields:

I just got the Jon Savage book a few days ago, and if it's half as good as his others, it'll be informative, entertaining, and the definitive document of the subject at hand.
  3:13pm Brian St Cyr:

YES! It is literally Hotter than Hell here in New Orleans...
Avatar 3:14pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Brian St Cyr: Cool off with a cold one at The Abbey!
  3:15pm Brian St Cyr:

LOL!!! Love the Abbey!..
  3:16pm Brian St Cyr:

Really great song though...KISS def had their moment....early!
  3:17pm Brian St Cyr:

These guys pay their royalties to AC/DC for that riff?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Gene Simmons wrote he wanted to be a Slade that would make it in the U.S. market.
Avatar 3:21pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@RRNov63: I guess he did okay...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm Brian in New Orleans:

Like a lot of kids growing up I was obsessed with KISS and Gene. Too bad he is such a horrible person. But like I said their first 6 albums are classics INHO.

Avatar 3:39pm BEAVO:

Thanks Todd! Great show as always. POW POW POW!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Dylan, 'Pet Sounds', 'Revolver', 'A Quick One'
- most of the best 'Nuggets' stuff - VU & Nico recorded if it took a while to find release (like the Pistols & Clash 10 years later had trouble)
- right inbetween '65 the Mod Style year & '67 the Summer of Love
- 1966 was it !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...'Freak Out'...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm Gaylord Fields:

From the Ugly's to the Dovers to the Beatles? Jon Savage may be on to something with this 1966 thing.
Avatar 3:41pm BEAVO:

Oh yeah I forgot Pet Sounds.
Avatar 3:43pm BEAVO:

Oh yes and Freak Out what good year for music.

@Todd-o-phonic Todd: Was Trez Trezo also 1966? if so, then that year's greatness is ceritfied.

The Allah Las do a very good cover of The Other Place
  4:05pm SeanG:

don't look back!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I think of Love as being exactly between The bYRds & the doors in L.A.
Lenny Kaye started 'Nuggets' w/ 'Too Much to Dream Last Night' by the Electric Prunes - & is that not the perfect balance of Pop & Experimentation? Some say that trying to cram the whole Universe into 2:30 in 'Good Vibrations' as a Pop Single Hit is what finally drove Brian Wilson crazy...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm chad from oregon:

What was the name of the film again?
Avatar 4:14pm DonJuanTijuana:

Just realized that I too was 4 in '66...sharing the same birth year as TOPT!
Avatar 4:15pm BEAVO:

No it sucked in the US too especially in the south where I'm from.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In the Chinese Calendar - 1966 was Year of the Fire Horse. Traditionally - they don't want children then - too Rebellious !
Avatar 4:16pm BEAVO:

'66 was when Lennon made the Jesus comments and the bible thumpers went crazy.
  4:17pm SeanG:

i'm wrong, yes we need to look back in order to smash the system!
Avatar 4:19pm BEAVO:

Baseball bats wrapped with barbed wire.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

In the U.S. - we think of Vietnam & the Draft all the time (it split up many Garage Bands, for instance) - & Civil Rights - so the reminder about the Bomb & Cold War is fascinating...as a background perhaps to a drive towards Escapism - like Psych, but also those nutty TV Shows (Batman, Star Trek, Munsters &tc. &tc.)...Horror & SciFi - the Monster Culture flourished for younger kids...
  4:21pm Peter in Seattle/NYC native:

Jon, what about the violence at the 1976 notting hill carnival riot in England?
Avatar 4:23pm BEAVO:

Wasn't Guy Stevens Mott the Hoople's manager?
Avatar 4:26pm BEAVO:

Yes he was, He formed the group.
  4:30pm V Priceless:

Great interview, thanx!
Avatar 4:30pm Joe non Papa:

Excellent interview, thanks Todd.
Avatar 4:31pm BEAVO:

I'll have to Kindle it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Way kewl! Thx Mr. Savage! www.amazon.com...
  4:31pm SeanG:

620 pages!
  4:34pm El Vel:

Kind of surprised Jon Savage said the UK didn't have "that kind of violence" in reference to the Civil Rights movement in the US South. The Northern Irish Civil Rights marches began in 1966 directly inspired by the US Civil Rights movement. Would eventually lead to the Troubles.
  4:35pm SeanG:

aaah love this song
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm pacific standard simon:

Deffo getting this book -- already have England's Dreaming. 1966 is my favorite year in music; I was 10 years old, it hit like pile-driver, and I was never the same.
  4:36pm El Vel:

In fact on this day in 1966 the recently formed Ulster Volunteer Force "declared war" on the Irish Republican Army in a statement! But other than that much enjoyed the item, book sounds interesting.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm pacific standard simon:

Was just thinking about this song this week; a co-worker asked me about Warren Zevon.
Avatar 4:39pm JakeGould:

  4:42pm P-90i:

Hey Todd: Really good interview with Mr. Savage. He seemed to get that you were asking the smartest questions, he's gonna do a lot of interviews about this book, mostly with journos who will not be nearly as astute on all the sides of the story, musical and cultural, as thee. Kudos.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes ! The Marvel Age of Comix w/ Jack Kirby - the characters they're making all the movies about now. A stage inbetween the old WWII DC Superheroes & the Underground Comix to soon come...

There's no shame in losing to Arrieta. There IS shame, however, in having Peavy in your rotation.
Avatar 5:06pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@PSS: You got that one right.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Uncle Michael:

Arrieta had nothing to do with chasing Peavy in the 2nd.
  5:07pm Jim:

You're right Todd, I thought there was a "t" missing on the accuplaylist, but maybe it was the glue I'm sniffing.
