The one I wish someone would release properly is "Shadows of Paris," an amazing Mancini torch song used as the opening theme for "A Shot in the Dark." I can only find that particular version at the beginning of the film, so it has film noise in it, like some footsteps and doors opening.

acording to Irwin Chusid the entire plot of "After Hours" is lifted and uncredited from a Joe Frank monolog

After Hours, Clue, Withnail & I, Murder By Death....my childhood favorites. Love seeing all your comments about these films! And this Global Communication record is brilliant from start to finish. Highly recommend it for any fans of ambient electronica.
Avatar    Fri. 5/13/16 3:36pm mariano:

It would be impossible to make a movie like After Hours today, at least with a modern setting. The whole plot hinges on someone being stranded in SOHO because he lost $20 out of a cab window. Today, the cab would take him to an ATM, or he'd just use a card, or use his phone to call a friend to borrow a few bucks. Plus SOHO would be full of people and open businesses.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 3:37pm djsheilab:

@mariano You're so right. I always recommend it to people saying it's the best way to see what Soho was like in the 80s. So desolate. But Fanelli's was there!
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 3:39pm listener james from westwood:

Murder by Death was a big fave as a kid. And as a grown-up copy editor, I now laugh even harder at Truman Capote's line, "Use your damn pronouns!!"
Avatar    Fri. 5/13/16 3:40pm julie july:

@djsheilalab, did Haunted Honeymoon ever make it on to your childhood radar? One of my favorite pseudo-scary movies as a kid! Gilda Radner, Gene Wilder, and Dom DeLuise in drag!
Avatar    Fri. 5/13/16 3:41pm mariano:

Oh yeah, Fanelli's has been there since forever, hasn't it? I worked for a while at 11 Madison, where the golden gates are where Griffin Dunne gets dropped off at the end, always got a kick out of walking in there every morning, especially if I was hung over and hadn't slept that much!
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 3:41pm geezerette:

Fanelli's! sigh.
I think the movie we're in now is possibly Bladerunner.
Like yours better Sheila.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 3:42pm djsheilab:

@geezerette Seriously. That's why I love creating these worlds with sounds.

@chalmers: Jane Wiedlin was soooo adorable as the singing telegram girl! @Sir Slouch: oops, didn't know that, thanks -- funny what my memory does sometimes.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 4:23pm Sir Slouch:

Can't blame ya there, Mariano
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 4:25pm Rob Kopp:

Wht do you play the a-side? The b-side My own sake is by far her best song!
  Fri. 5/13/16 4:27pm chalmers:

Griffin Dunne was in Amazon Women on the Moon, though.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 4:30pm djsheilab:

@Rob Kopp What record are you referring to?
  Fri. 5/13/16 4:30pm JakeGould:

Add me to the crush on Jane Wiedlen column.

Her single Hangman's Daughter KETCH 15 UP

As far as singing telegram girls go, however, remember the crazy one from Brazil (the movie, not the country)? @djshielab: Go boys!!!

brilliant children piano, don't you think?

Trying to fall asleep last night I watched Man From UNCLE, the new film version. Not much to write home about, but it had a really good Italian torch song, "Che Vuole Questa Musica Stasera" by Peppino Gagliardi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 4:43pm Adrian in London:

Hey Sheila, are you into Eurovision? I think you can see it in the US tomorrow. These days it's best watched in wine and on Twitter. Look out for Bulgaria's entry, a woman whose suspenders and earrings light up at the crescendo.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 4:45pm djsheilab:

@Rob Kopp Ahhhh...I was playing her LP. That track isn't on there sadly. Thanks for the link.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 4:52pm Rob Kopp:

Bulgaria? Watch Dutchman Douwe Bob with Slow down. He includes a break of 10 seconds in the song.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 4:53pm djsheilab:

@Adrian In London I haven't watched Eurovision but I really enjoyed it the last time I did. Thanks for the reminder + tip! I miss London's Eurovision-watching parties.
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 4:54pm djsheilab:

@Adrian in London-- that was meant to say haven't watched Eurovision in awhile :) My multi-tasking skills are poor.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 4:57pm Rob Kopp:

Probably Russia will win. With dope ofcourse.

The Ukrainian entry sounds gloomy. But honest.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 5:05pm Rob Kopp:

Your single of the week seems to have the same piano as the one in Holly Golightly's song My own sake :-)

@JakeGould Haha! A perfect gift.

Hey Sheila! Are <3's ok?
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 5:13pm drewo:

Sad to see Other Music go. I'd always scan the best-seller list and employees picks to learn what I needed to learn about the latest music. The vinyl display came back strong the last few years - helping me to re-ignite my vinyl collection after a few decades lapse. I'll miss chatting with Chris V. - it really was a music clubhouse. Music fans can continue to support Other Music Recording - the Boogarins release last year was exceptional (thanks to Evan Davies for that tip).

Andrew Dice Clay was also in Amazon Women on the Moon, but in one of the weaker sketches of course
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 5:18pm listener james from westwood:

True that, along with Russ Meyer!
  Fri. 5/13/16 5:20pm JakeGould:

Any spooktacular sounds left for this final hour?
  Fri. 5/13/16 5:21pm chalmers:

@Muddy, if they made it today, Dice would be the funeral roast sketch with the likes of Slappy White and Rip Taylor.
  Fri. 5/13/16 5:21pm JakeGould:

@steve: Oh! I misread that TWO against ONE. Never mind!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Fri. 5/13/16 5:22pm Michael 98145:

Having a heck of a time listening today... long meeting, in-office performance, on-going internet problems, phone calls... it's Friday the 13th and Sophisticated Boom Boom is not meant to be!
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 5:30pm Adrian in London:

Apparently Eurovision is being broadcast on LogoTV, whatever that is
  Fri. 5/13/16 5:30pm JakeGould:

I bet someone in Periscope would do a scope of Eurovision via their phone.
  Fri. 5/13/16 5:30pm JM:

Great show as always - liked the Friday the 13th hour and the rest of the show had me smiling as I'm trying to finish up a rough week at work.

Hah, and I haven't even seen Human Eurovision before!
  Fri. 5/13/16 5:39pm JakeGould:

Is there inhuman Eurovision? Is that like when they sang "Shake Senora" at the end of "Beetlejuice?"
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 5:40pm Mochi Pierre:

Great show, Perfume & Bobbie Smith both #1
Avatar Fri. 5/13/16 5:41pm geezerette:

always thought people loved slagging Eurovision performances, that what they loved was the cheesy over-the-topness.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Fri. 5/13/16 5:41pm Cliff:

Depends on if you consider Lego people to be human....
