My first thought was "Duane is going to be so upset!" Second time I've heard of a musician's passing and immediately reacted with concern for a WFMU DJ's mental health - first was Trent when Trish from Broadcast died.

Beautiful words Duane. It has been lovely despite losing him to hear Prince take over the airwaves, like living in a future world even tho he's gone.

Somehow, I missed the news of Billy Paul's passing away, and I'm comforted that I found out here and in this way.

About 7-8 years ago, I saw him perform on voice and solo piano at an intimate event in honor of Kenny Gamble — and the cat was clean! It was a masterful performance, to no surprise.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Prince. I have to admit after the shock wore off I thought of you and pulled out my copy of your tribute to the Purple One. I danced to a Prince tribute here is San Diego the other night and am happy to say that Prince love is universal. There is a graffiti artist who painted a mural of him last weekend, Purple Rain era, with the words "Dearly Beloved" above it. Indeed he is dearly beloved.
