Startin' with the Sabbath!
  12:04pm Polyus:

Diane, didja go see Voivod in NYC? Didja?
Avatar 12:04pm Cecile:

Black Sabbath convention? wow.

this is kind of funny and related. I was having a hard time coming up with a basic idea for an interactive project in my InDesign class, and literally Ronnie James Dio came to me in a dream last night. So he's going to be the topic of my project.
  12:04pm V Priceless:

hey DK! Way to turn up the heat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm chris:

hello! rawk!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Rich in Washington:

@Cecile: a DVD called Learn InDesign with Ronnie James Dio.
Avatar 12:07pm Cecile:

YEAH. That would be amazing. No, but it's going to be a fun career overview with lots of video clips and quotes. And awesome images. And of course the metal horns.

Hey ya Cecile
  12:09pm Dave D:

Hello this is Dave from Global Black Sabbath!! Glad to be here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm coe:

Broke down and got me a Sabb ticktet last night. Had been wrestling with it back and forth for a while now. Then the thought of it being probably the last time that Tony would probably be touring hit me and was like ok I better do it
  12:11pm Dave D:

if any one has questions about the convention please let us know
Avatar 12:11pm Cecile:

is this the first Sabbath convention, Dave?
Avatar 12:11pm Doctor Rembrandt:

Good morning from Northern California
Avatar 12:13pm PKNY:

Avatar 12:13pm Cecile:

  12:13pm Dave D:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm chris:

Doc! getting out in this wonderful weather?
Avatar 12:14pm Cecile:

that sounds awesome, dave.
Avatar 12:14pm PKNY:

@Dave D: is there a website w/ more info on the Convention?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm coe:

@PKNY still going back and forth depending on work. Went to Philly Monday.
  12:15pm Dave D:

just google global black Sabbath convention and our facebook page comes up
Avatar 12:15pm Doctor Rembrandt:

Was out dog walking in Sausalito yesterday, today at home in San Rafael Was photographing in Chinatown on Sunday and a sports bar here for Super Bowl. Super Bowl City was boring in my opinion
Avatar 12:15pm Doctor Rembrandt:

How is Lagunitas?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm coe:

@PKNY first show this tour? You will not be disappointed. Just can't get over how much they smile through their set.
  12:16pm Dave D:

we have a closed group for member privacy and a like page. We celebrate ALL eras of Sabbath not leaving anyone out who ever played with the band. Tony Martin, Dio, and all the vocalists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm coe:

The obvious Sab question. Favorite line up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm chris:

its a beauty out here. feels like spring. weird.
Avatar 12:19pm Doctor Rembrandt:

Great, enjoy!
Avatar 12:20pm Cecile:

  12:20pm Dean:

Somebody say Lagunitas? The beer?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Stevel:

Cecile: Are you dreaming again?
  12:20pm Polyus:

Oh hell yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm chris:

yup, tis where i live, Dean. and where the beer was born, though they've now moved a bit north to Petaluma
Avatar 12:21pm Cecile:

Don't wake me if I am, Stevel!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm coe:

Be careful Cecile has some pretty powerful freakin' dreams :)
  12:22pm josh:

Dio gets the party started!
  12:24pm Polyus:

I am a fan of Lagunitas Pils, being a man of simple tastes.
  12:25pm nickromby:

thanks dianne! - great song. totally overlooked and underrated sabbath/dio record.
Avatar 12:26pm Cecile:

Lagunitas Pils is delightful.
  12:26pm Dean:

If Pils is your thing, you could do worse than Lagunitas. I'm more a Hairy Eyeball kinda guy. Little Sump'n Extra, Sucks, and Equinox are all good, too. Haven't yet had Gnarly Wine, but I bet it's great.
Avatar 12:27pm Cecile:

Avatar 12:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Can't get the Hairy Eyeball very often here, but on tap it's a marvel. Dig the Cappuccino stout as well.
Avatar 12:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

also: hello.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm coelacanth:

greetings Diane and Daredevils
Avatar 12:29pm Doctor Rembrandt:

I am near Marin Brewing Co. and have never been to the Lagunitas brewpub, I need to go there and to the brewpub across the street.
  12:32pm Dean:

Hairy Eyeball on tap! Oh, man, I bet that's great. It showed up in bottles at local Trader Joe's for a bargain, relatively speaking.

I know Marin Brewing well! Used to head over the bridge on a weekend for a burger and brew. Their double IPA is swell. I'm walking distance from Fieldwork (subtle stuff, sometimes boring, sometimes pleasant), a Sierra Nevada tasting room, and Rare Barrel (sours). But I almost never get out anymore, because I'm bland.
  12:32pm Dave D:

Thank you!!!!!!!
Avatar 12:33pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Voivod Saturday here.
Avatar 12:35pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Dean: aye, local establishment The Black Squirrel [dc] had th'Eyeball on tap for a bit. It was my first taste of the stuff. It was stupidly excellently wonderful.
Avatar 12:37pm MenfussMike:

MaxxWarrior would be the type of band I loved when I was 16
  12:38pm Dean:

Wish I'd known about Black Squirrel the last couple times I was in DC. Maybe it wasn't even there then. DC is where I first had a Belgian sour, quite a few years ago at Brasserie Beck.
  12:40pm Dave D:

we will be at the slake concert hall and there will be special guests as well along with different vendors
Avatar 12:42pm Chris from DC:

The Lagunitas Born Yesterday is really amazing. I'm not sure how often that one is available. A big second for th'Squirrel.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm coe:

And with the urging and blessing of his wonderful wife Coe purchases ticket for this evenings VoiVod show.
Avatar 12:44pm Doctor Rembrandt:

Dean, where do you live? East Bay? I just got turned onto sour beers and chili beers last year. Russian River Brewing has Consecration, beer aged in red wine barrels, amazing! Then green chili and habanero beers fascinate me.
  12:45pm Polyus:

Voivod setlists have been looking great so far.
Avatar 12:46pm Chris from DC:

You want Ballast Point Indra Kunindra if that's your thing, Doc. Very complex and pretty spicy.
  12:48pm Dean:

There's a traditional liquor store in town, Ledger's, that stocks a good supply of beer, including once a few bottles of Born Yesterday. Yeah, good stuff.

Doc Rembrandt, I'm in Berkeley. I know Russian River well, of course, although I've never been to the brewpub. I have, however, tapped a few Pliny the Youngers over the years. Many years ago, c.1990, I penned an article about the Temecula Valley wine region. At the time one of the oldest wineries was the family-operated Cilurzo. I took a tour led by mom and pop Cilurzo, who lamented that their teenage son had rebelled. He was somewhere in the neighborhood...brewing beer! He is Vinnie Cilurzo, Jr., founder of Russian River and one-man sour beer promoter. Ledger's gets a weekly supply of Pliny the Elder, Consecration, Damnation, and sundry other RR brews.
Avatar 12:50pm Cecile:

I have tried numerous sour brews, but the only one I can drink consistently is Bell's Oarsman. A real taste treat if you are in Minneapolis is 612's Shere Khan - ale brewed with curry spices. Delicious.
Avatar 12:51pm MenfussMike:

god, this sounded like a Sabbath rip off of the Sabotage album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm chris:

ha! that's pretty cool, Dean. RRBC is legend.
  12:53pm Dean:

Damn. That Shere Khan looks really good. Too bad they don't bottle it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm Coe:

DK I have not spoken to Denise M in a while do you know is Bible Black NYC in place of Sheo or is that still happening?
Dave D have to tell you Bible Black NYC is probably my selling point for attending. :)
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

Yeah, it is! And it won't be around too much longer - it's a seasonal.
Avatar 12:57pm InBrkly:

I used to love beer but it hates me now.
Avatar 12:57pm Doctor Rembrandt:

Consecration in bottles? Just found the webpage for the store. Fascinating the son went into beer! A couple of Fridays ago I was at Triple Rock and got a tour during SF Beer Week
Avatar 12:57pm InBrkly:

Damn it--the deli next door put fuller esb on tap and that is one of my all time faves
Avatar 12:58pm Doctor Rembrandt:

Avatar 12:58pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

so.......... so thirsty.
Avatar 12:59pm Chris from DC:

There's likely a Uinta Stompin' Grounds coffee stout waiting for me at the end of today at the place next door.
Avatar 1:01pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

that Stompin' Grounds was fine as hell.
Avatar 1:01pm Cecile:

  1:01pm Dean:

Pre-kids I'd head to Triple Rock for their Firkin Festival, sit there all afternoon sampling funky beers, watch the sun drop from the roof garden, and amble/stumble onto a bus to head home. Them's was the days. I remember a tribute to Vinnie Jr., Vindication, a nice sour.

Love the Uinta beers I've had, but I sure would like to get my hands again on a Boulevard Rye on Rye. Luscious.

Cecile, the Shere Khan is bottled? I need to talk to the folks at Ledger's!
Avatar 1:02pm Diane Kamikaze:

Hey All! Thanks for tuning in!! Around 2:30 I'll be giving away a pair of tix to the Global Black Sabbath Convention in NYC on Weds 2/24! The number to call is 201-200-9368 - it'll be a bit of a trivia question, so be ready! Welcome Dave D! Hit him up with any questions about the convention...!
  1:02pm nickromby:

oh, hellyes! - (big ups to mark tornello!)
Avatar 1:03pm Diane Kamikaze:

@COE! Bible Black NYC is Denise's band. Not sure the status on Sheo, but they're not ready for prime time in any event! You know she will rock this!
Avatar 1:04pm MenfussMike:

that album is so bad ass
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm coe:

Oh I have absolute faith in Denise rocking it
Avatar 1:05pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Viva La Lupo!!!!
  1:06pm Dean:

Which Accept album opens with a polka tune?
Avatar 1:06pm Chris from DC:

Oh yes.
Avatar 1:07pm MenfussMike:

Restless and Wild Dean. Fast as a Shark...hi dee hi doe
  1:07pm Dave D:

We are very excited to have Bible Black with us too! Its perfect to have the Dio side done. If you think about it those songs will never be played live again!!!!
Avatar 1:07pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Dean, that is the beginning of (track) Fast As A Shark, on Restless and Wild... - it gets ripped off the turntable to UDO screaming....!
Avatar 1:08pm Diane Kamikaze:

...which never gets old. It was quite an effort for me today to NOT play that track!
Avatar 1:09pm Cecile:

Dave D., are you familiar with Benedictum? They have a female lead singer and do great versions of The Mob Rules and Heaven and Hell.
  1:09pm Dean:

Thanks, Menfuss and DK. I get such a kick out of that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:09pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Udo Dirkschneider...what a character!
  1:09pm nickromby:

'master'ful engineering on this record... somebody needs to interview those dudes.
Avatar 1:09pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Dave D, exactly! Such a bummer, we should tribute Dio forever! I was at the show in London where Heaven and Hell played with 3 guest vocalists after Dio passed, and they needed 3 people to cover his vocal range!
  1:10pm Dean:

Lemme guess: Placido Domingo, José Carreras, and Luciano Pavarotti?
Avatar 1:13pm Cecile:

I'm hoping to get to the john Baizley art show on Monday.
  1:15pm Dave D:

we are also proud to have Into the Void they are one of the best Sabbath tribute bands around, they work hard to get the sound right. The convention is as much fun or more as seeing Sabbath live
Avatar 1:15pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Diooooooooo!! Long Live Rock and Rolllllllllll!! Oh Yeah!!!!!
  1:16pm Dave D:

We also have produced a Tribute CD to Tony Iommi called "The Great Lefty" on Tanzan records. A great version of Heaven and Hell is on there with Boston guitarist and Kyle Cousins on Vocals
  1:18pm nickromby:

'into the void'. no doubt. best ive heard, dave d.

Listen to this hippy singing!
  1:21pm JakeGould:

Diane! Nice “Master of Reality” cover scheme you got going on here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm coelacanth:

ha! well, unlike all the "hippy"-hating weaklings of today, Lemmy wouldn't be offended by that!
Avatar 1:22pm Cecile:

Lemmy had a good sense of humor about himself.
  1:23pm Dave D:

Good call on PowerTime!!!! Big Spirit Caravan fan too bad they had a falling out with their drummer Isom
  1:24pm subjecttoochange:

Thank you for rocking the Bejesus out of me whilst I do my drawings here in Southern California!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm coelacanth:

whoah, Jake, i never noticed that! (at least not consciously)
  1:25pm Dave D:

Very Glad to have Martin Popoff as well an all around great guy
Avatar 1:28pm Cecile:

I love Martin Popoff's writing. it's funny, energetic and really well informed.
  1:30pm Dave D:

He is great In person he is as he writes
Avatar 1:30pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:31pm PKNY:

That Martin Popoff book was a great read. The cover of the book is a flyer to a BS gig they did in '71 at a Catholic high school not far from my house:

If I remember correctly, one of the guys from the Smithereens talks about seeing Sabbath there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm coe:

I don't think I stress how amazing this album is.
Avatar 1:31pm Cecile:

that's cool, Dave. I just laughed because Diane likes the Brownout record more than I do, and I like it quite a bit.
Avatar 1:33pm PKNY:

The Brownout stuff is good, but I'd have to give the edge to the Budos Band for their collabo with Charles Bradley on "Changes".
Avatar 1:35pm Chris from DC:

Avatar 1:36pm Diane Kamikaze:

@PKNY will have to check that out!
Avatar 1:36pm Diane Kamikaze:

  1:39pm nickromby:

definitely going to try to make it out to the pony tonight...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm coe:

I think my only disappointment about VOIVOD was that they did not choose to include Silver Machine in their set. Would have made for a great encore.
Avatar 1:41pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

may i "VOIVOD" a wee tad late?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm coelacanth:

VOIV .... oh,never mind.
Avatar 1:42pm Cecile:

this Elias Hulk thing is funny. I don't know if the singer is supposed to be an enchanter trying to stymie a hero, or a stoner trying to get a high schooler to hang out in their panel van.
Avatar 1:42pm Chris from DC:

I am also fairly excited for Vektor.
Avatar 1:44pm Diane Kamikaze:

CfDC: Vektor is great, you MUST see them as well!
