For a period in my life back in the early 90's I listened to The Harder They Come soundtrack a lot...and practiced the martial arts in the streets of Chinatown (well, Pike Street) in lower manhattan...and ate cold burritos everyday from the Pathmark in Manhattan...

Avatar 9:47am KP:

Hello from snowy, New York, NY, Joe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47am annie:

just flurries over the next few days down here in asheville; maybe some squalls..
Avatar 9:48am Wild Neil:

@Marcel-well, when you live in this area for awhile its The Southtowns that get hammered 90% of the time (7 feet of snow in snowvember was West Seneca and parts of Hamnurg) since it follows the west wind off of Lake Erie....up in Amherst NY where I work and in Niagara County NY near Lockport its rare to get over a foot of snow...draw a diagonal line aligned with the centerline of Lake Erie and where it hits land is where it gets hammered for the most part..
Avatar 9:48am Wild Neil:

Hamburg that is...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50am Planet Tyler:

Hi All! Is anyone having the strange problem with their internet stream that it keeps resetting to a few hours ago??
Avatar 9:51am Marcel M:

@Neil: Ah, I see. I was actually just recently wondering why the other side of Upstate NY doesn't get as much snow as Buffalo (my parents live up there), and you just answered my question.
Avatar 9:52am Wild Neil:

@Marcell-I just looked at a map and realized I misspoke...everything due west of Lake Erie gets HAMMERED...since the weather and wind travel generally from west to east...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52am Planet Tyler:

You guys are making me miss Buffalo NY...and I'm not being facetious
Avatar 9:53am Wild Neil:

@Planet-where did you live? I live next to Lockport in Cambria NY...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am Planet Tyler:

@Wild Neil - I lived in Allentown
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53am doctorjazz:

Staten Island is still dry (we're behind on everything...)
  9:54am Brendan:

Hi Joe. Good morning peeps
Avatar 9:54am Marcel M:

@Neil: Ah ok, cool. I'm from Bergen County, NJ but my parents moved up to Saranac Lake (in Tupper lake but ON Upper Saranac Lake) a few years ago.
Avatar 9:56am Marcel M:

I was gonna take my bike today... guess not!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:56am Parq:

Marcel, I'm also from Bergen. Never lived in the Tri-Lakes, but my parents met as patients at Will Rogers (now lux residences), and went up there regularly their whole lives. I've spent a lot of time up there myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57am Planet Tyler:

My stream keeps resetting to Frank O'Toole playing Dexy's Midnight Runners!
Avatar 9:57am Marcel M:

@Parq: Cool! My parents started going up to that area for their anniversary 15 - 20 years ago and always loved it so decided to retire there. Beautiful place.
Avatar 9:57am Wild Neil:

My mom went to Hackensack high and grew up in River Edge...I am from near Newton NJ originally...
@Marcel-Oh yeah, Allentown...the Hardware café and Rust Belt Books!

Avatar 10:39am Joe McG:

Avatar 10:39am PKNY:

@Matt - the Springfield you're from must be a land w/o classic rock stations. :)
Avatar 10:40am Roberto:

Heh. Excellent serendipitous choice then. And yes, this was a moderate hit on classic rock radio in the early '90s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42am Greg from ZONE 5:

I ♥ The 90s
  10:42am Kagi:

Oh god, Versus. You just made my day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Matt from Springfield:

@PKNY: Since '09, yes actually! I went to XM in the car and discovered FMU online April of that year--what little terrestrial radio offered in the DC area was gone by then.
Avatar 10:49am Brian in UK:

John Stewart song off the great California Bloodlines.
Avatar 10:50am Joe McG:

Ah yes, Brian, what a great album!
Avatar 10:50am PKNY:

@Matt - I grew up in the Hudson Valley NY, and (as Ken From Hyde Park can attest to) Bad Company/classic rock is almost unavoidable.
Avatar 10:52am βrian:

This is the sound of the 70s being over!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52am Parq:

A favorite B-fifs single.
Avatar 10:52am Brian in UK:

Joe one of my all time......

Hey Matt how you doing?
  10:52am Bill in W.O.:

All these years I assumed that the Beat Farmers were covering John Stewart, but now it occurs to me that it was probably this Pat Boone version they were inspired by. Cool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53am Mike East:

I think classic rock radio is an important part of music education...though its like kindergarten, whereas WFMU is grad school.

Enjoying the show this morning, Professor McGasko.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54am Matt from Springfield:

Brian, good (afternoon)!

Avatar 10:55am Joe McG:

Nice to see you, Mike East!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:56am Matt from Springfield:

Hey Mike! And yes, having a classic rock foundation is important for understanding music in general, and the many different directions it can go. You can appreciate the irony in Kenny G playing the Led Zeppelin "IV" 8-track about to disintegrate having genuinely listened through and through.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:57am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 10:57am Joe McG:

Glad you guys are in the mood for some classic rockers today....

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:02am MD:

I was once driving thru TX...and Small Town Came on the radio...I counted 38 Small tTowns in that song!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:03am Matt from Springfield:

@Mike: Ah, don't worry. We're not DJs or anything..

That was my idea for a "DJ SAT", quiz prospective DJs on the minutiae of various songs. Match the song titles to the early 60s "Bobby" that sang them, and same thing with the early 60s "Barbaras" ;)
  11:04am Brendan:

Whew . Kevin Ayers never sounded so good.

Saw John Cougar MenstrualCramp way back on a bill with the Who. Folks (bikers ) were throwing bottles at the stage. He challenged them to do it again and it did not go well. He got hit in the head and took a break then came out in a hardhat and proceeded to cuss out the audience.
Avatar 11:14am Joe McG:

@Brian in UK: Yes! Associated with Fly Records. @Marcel: I wanted to, but got shut out of both, unfortunately. Too slow on the draw.

This Wayfaring Strangers comp look very interesting.

Thanks Rev, I had no idea.

Like this GP quote about the Eagles "He thought that bands like the Eagles were pretty much missing the point".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am doctorjazz:

Bobby Dylan, in his country crooner incarnation, love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43am ChrisB.:

Know who does a nice version of this: Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yikes. Bob is no Everlys (they own this).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44am Matt from Springfield:

Self Portrait, not so familiar w/ that album (except for his own version of "If Not For You") - sounds worth listening to further!
Avatar 11:46am Brian in UK:

You cannot beat family singing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am Matt from Springfield:

True that Brian. (Phil & Don especially)
  11:52am Dean:

Self Portrait featured that odd hit, "Wigwam." The album was left out of a box set of Dylan LPs c. 2003.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am doctorjazz:

If Not For You was on New Morning (which is a great album, as opposed to Self Portrait, which was a fun album imo).
  11:52am Brendan:

Midnight oh yea, Happy Chinese New Year Joe . Look forward to monkeying around with you guys in the coming year.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am ChrisB.:

Anyone who like this Everly sound should check out The Cactus Blossoms.
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

Thanks for listening and commenting everyone--happy new year!

Thanks much, Joe! Just what the doctor ordered.

Dr. J, "New Morning" is one of my favorite Bob albums, too, and it clocks in at lest than a half hour.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57am Parq:

Fine, fine show, Joe.
