I play music that is old and that is new. Some of it is digital while some is analog. It is from many different countries; sometimes it is loud and at other times it is quiet.

The building that looks like a ruin is the hotel. Photo gallery 4travel.jp...
  5:01pm Listener142985:

Happy Monday, Mayuko. What is in ruins?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01pm listener james from westwood:

Afternoon, Mayuko and all! Thanks for the photo-essay on the hotel. Reminded me for some reason of the Beat Hotel, the Paris apartment building where some of the Beats and associated folks spent time writing and cross-pollinating in the 60s.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:03pm Doug Schulkind:

Another Mayuko Monday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm Gary:

Anyone see a wallet in here?
  5:08pm Listener142985:

I want a doormat that says ''wellcome.'' Just to see if anyone is paying attention.
Avatar 5:09pm Mayuko:

Listener142985, welcome on board! Inside the ruin looking building is this picture on playlist - an old hotel in Chinatown near Tokyo that was just demolished. I took this photo when I stayed there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm listener james from westwood:

Makes me think of Burroughs-Wellcome, which is now probably a tiny part of some other, much huger pharma conglomerate.
Avatar 5:12pm Flash Strap:

evening all! can only stay for a moment but wanted to say hi
Avatar 5:13pm Mayuko:

Hi listener james, the Beat Hotel looks beautiful, I want to look into some more picture later. These old hotels are like treasure boxes of history and memories...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm JtotheK:

hello everyone.
  5:14pm Listener142985:

Would have been a good set for a scary movie.
Avatar 5:14pm Mayuko:

Doug!!! How are you? Gary! A wallet?? Evan, so glad have you here even for a short time! and thank you so much for tuning in, JtotheK!
Avatar 5:19pm Flash Strap:

these decaying sounds. perfect. this set is so excellent
Avatar 5:20pm Mayuko:

It was actually kinda scary indeed to go into this building, Listener142985.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Good afternoon, folks. Does anyone play Glenn Frey (RIP) on the Drummer stream? www.glennfreyafterhours.com
  5:22pm P-90:

Konbanwa, Mayuko! Happy to be listening live this week, i've been mostly exiled to the archives by my holiday season travels and obligations. This building in the photo seems to have a lot of atmospheric vibes.
Avatar 5:23pm Mayuko:

Welcome on board, Ken! I saw that news this morning coming in from one of our DJs, I would assume someone must have played buncha Mott the Hoople by now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:25pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@Mayuko - Yeah, Scott Williams just mentioned it on his show and played an Eagles 45 at 33 RPM.
Avatar 5:27pm Mayuko:

Hello, P-90! Glad to have you tuning in live! That hotel really was very atmospheric. It's a huge bummer that it's gone.
Avatar 5:30pm Mayuko:

Good to know that Scott is doing what DJs are responsible to do today, Ken. I'm a little too occupied to mourn for the hotel disappearance instead of playing Eagles and stuff. haha!
  5:37pm Listener142985:

I wonder how the Eagles sounded slowed down. They were often pretty ''mellow'' to begin with.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:38pm listener james from westwood:

Shit, this year's not letting up with the death, is it? But does any year?
Avatar 5:41pm Mayuko:

Yah. There's always someone dying every day every year, famous or not. We just don't know their lives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:46pm Gary:

I love this woman
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm listener james from westwood:

Really do dig the chronological range of your programs, Mayuko! Musical time machine!

Avatar 6:02pm northguineahills:

At least he didn't die on the northern side of the Guinea mountains....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:07pm Ike:

Hello! Normally I can only listen to your archives lately. Nice to tune in live for once.
Avatar 6:09pm northguineahills:

ack, I missed where in Yokohama this hotel was at. I used to hang out there in my early teens.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:09pm Gary:

Great story.
  6:10pm Listener142985:

Kind of place you can check out but never leave?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:12pm Gary:

Please play more Matroos
  6:16pm Doug Schulkind:

That music was fantastic. Very Raymond Scott-ish.
  6:19pm Doug Schulkind:

But not at all Scottish.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:21pm Uncle Michael:

Good evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm listener james from westwood:

"If it's not Raymond Scott-ish, it's CRAAAAP" —Mike Myers, probably
Avatar 6:23pm Mayuko:

Hello Ike, thanks for checking out the archives! Welcome on board, Dave B! northguineahills, you might have seen it and maybe just don't remember?! it was close from the subway stop...
Avatar 6:24pm Mayuko:

That's a great way to put it, Listener142985! I love that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:24pm coelacanth:

greetings Mayuko and others
...taking a rare opportunity to witness Play Vertigo as it unfolds.
Avatar 6:25pm Mayuko:

Gary, ok, more Matroos coming up... At least I'll have you enjoy this Madoros madness, haha!
Avatar 6:27pm Mayuko:

Good evening, Uncle Michael!! & Welcome on board, coelacanth, glad to have you listening live!
  6:32pm Dave B.:

Good stuff
Avatar 6:36pm northguineahills:

To be honest, the only times I spent time in Yokohama was when we would visit Yokosuka for sports, or my father's work. I mostly hung out in Machida, and if I had some money, go over to Shibuya or Ginza to people watch. Although Ueno was a fun place as well.
Avatar 6:36pm Mayuko:

Hibari Misora was born in Yokohama, and she had a bunch of Madorosu songs, it's stupid that I don't have any of her with me. But here we go again with the Madorosu songs for a bit...
Avatar 6:38pm Mayuko:

Ah, makes sense you'd go to Yokosuka, northguineahills. I love Ueno although it's dirty and smelly. That was near my neighborhood.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:38pm Gary:

I have lots of Hibara Misori I could float you, but I wouldn't know which tracks (if any) are Matroos-y. Didn't know she was born in Yokohama. Do you know how come her museum is in Kyoto?
  6:45pm ディビット:

Hi, Mayuko chan.. sorry I arrived late. Great music. Did you play テレサ テンさん?
Avatar 6:46pm Mayuko:

There is her museum in Kyoto? There's one in Tokyo too I believe. I think she's got 5 or 6 Madorosu songs. It must always say Madorosu in the titles. Or if you can catch her saying so in the lyrics... not that I wanna play more Madorosu stuff, haha! That was almost getting too crazy!
  6:48pm Listener142985:

Close as we're going to get to an Eagles tribute right now, it appears. Close enough. Unless you have a surprise to cue up at some point.
Avatar 6:49pm Mayuko:

Hi David san, no Teresa Teng tonight. Man, could have been a good choice since she's got both Chinese & Japanese feeling that's perfect for Chinatown mood.
  6:50pm Listener142985:

Great L. Cohen.
  6:53pm ディビット:

I will study this playlist.
Goodnight all!
Avatar 6:56pm northguineahills:

I love East River Pipe! Thanks Mayuko, kickass tunes yet again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm listener james from westwood:

Thanks, Mayuko, for the mighty musical Monday!
  6:57pm Listener142985:

Until next Monday, adios, M.!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:57pm Gary:

Yes, I went to the Kyoto museum; it was great! I couldn't find anything by her with "マドロス" in the title, alas ... great show, thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm coelacanth:

Thanks Mayuko! take good care.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Gary:

Yay! Will definitely tune in then
Avatar 7:01pm Mayuko:

Thanks all for listening, have a great week everyone!

I loved what you said about Noriko Awaya singing in English for POWs. That shows empathy, and I love that. Some mistake that for compassion, but empathy is also about the good things. Empathy is what allows me to take a break from my problems and enjoy seeing random people being happy
Avatar 12:34am Mayuko:

Yah, what she did is truly incredible, especially in those insane days when treating human beings like human beings were not normal. I'm glad you got my point of telling that story, I felt that I didn't explain it sufficiently. Speaking English and looking at an article written in Japanese at the same time is confusing!
