A viking ship appears on the horizon, a likeness of Alice Coltrane carved into its bow. Rare birds flock together to sing Francoise Hardy as soul hits. A sunset of blips and bleeps fills the air.

Avatar 9:03am Trouble:

good morning shagalov in russia!
Avatar 9:03am pierre:

Bonjour !
  9:04am Listener Robert:

Are those Coke bottles custom modded, or were those actual prod'n models?
  9:05am Listener Robert:

Or are they not mods at all, but ceramic artwork?
Avatar 9:09am Trouble:

today's art work is by Zhang Hongtu- “Six-Pack of Kekou-Kele (Coca-Cola)". i have it labeled wrong in the picture. will change that later
  9:10am Adrian in London:

Lovely! When I saw Dom a few weeks ago she tried to make the audience dance; all the Spanish and French people were up for it and most of we English people had think bubbles above our heads saying "Make it stop! We're FAR too self-conscious for this!"
Avatar 9:10am Trouble:

bonjour tuesday/mardi!
  9:13am Listener Robert:

What I'm asking is whether Zhang Hongtu arranged & photographed existing Coke bottles like that that were prod'n models, or painted the bottles, or made ceramics in the shape of Coke bottles & caps.
Avatar 9:13am Trouble:

she did that in NYC also adrian! i saw less dancing thtn perhaps she would have liked. she toured with jane birkin before setting off on her own, I think she learned a thing or two from her about the "big" show styleee
Avatar 9:14am Trouble:

listener robert I don't know exactly but you can google it and find info for sure.
Avatar 9:17am SHAGALOV:

In Russia we have similar pattern and call it GZEL.❇❈❆❈❇
  9:19am Listener Robert:

Thanks, Trouble. artmuseum.princeton.edu... says they're porcelain. No deposit, no return!
  9:21am mauri:

searching for gzel showed me one with gamayun in it. which old russian movie was gamayun in? I wanna watch that again.

Pretty music, this Dickson track.

hello all :)

Bonjour monde moderne!
Avatar 9:33am SHAGALOV:

@mauri, we have a lot of old soviet movies based on russian fairytales. I can't remember which one had Gamayun or Sirin.
If you like this bird, you should like more pictures by Viktor Vasnetsov fairytales

Hello Troubladours! Love the art today, Trouble. Where did you find it?
Avatar 9:55am bobdoesthings:

goodmorning everyone.
  9:55am Ike:

Avatar 9:56am Trouble:

hello emily! i thought you would like the art today! Princeton museum has a set. have you ever been there? very sweet little museum
Avatar 9:56am βrian:

Bon mardi troublant ! Cieux bas au-dessus de l'isthme aujourd'hui.
Avatar 9:57am SHAGALOV:

@mauri, movie of my childhood. Start to download now ☻
  9:58am emily:

You spoke about the Princeton Museum on one of your recent shows--believe you pictured some Persian miniatures. Now, I'm dying to go. Drove past Princeton on our return from West Virginia on Sunday but didn't stop. My loss. Must make trip!
Avatar 9:58am Trouble:

@bobdoes things; saw the most handsome but dead red fox on my way to work the other day. sadly hit by a car.
Avatar 9:59am βrian:

We saw both a fox and a turkey in our yard within the last week. Not what I expected for city living, but it'll do.
Avatar 9:59am bobdoesthings:

@trouble :( awwww
Avatar 10:00am Trouble:

thanks @billy london!
Avatar 10:00am bobdoesthings:

"handsome but dead" despite the sad news. that's got a ring to it..
  10:01am nEIL cOMMA wILD:

I was talking to a deer hunter yesterday...he said fox have such a good sense of smell that fox traps (which is cruel, I know, he even said this) must be boiled then encased in wax to kill any stray scents...they have EXTREMELY good smell compared to any other animal...also did you know deer and turkey will often hang out together since Turkey have better eyesight but lousy smell, wheras deer have an excellent sense of smell?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02am Jeff Golick:

Lovely radio this morning, @Trouble.
Avatar 10:05am bobdoesthings:

@neil,wild. - makes sense... but do you have any idea why turkeys attack car tires?
Avatar 10:07am βrian:

The same reason humans pop bubble wrap, maybe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:08am Adrian in London:

@neil,wild A fox bit my shoe last summer, with my foot still in it. I am now half vulpine/half human. My super power is to make a terrible screeching sound at night...
  10:09am Gibier:

Neither Pierre nor I got his hello back today.
How sad.
  10:10am original famous sugarwolf:

I drove over the body of an orange tabby this weekend. It made me so sad.
Avatar 10:11am bobdoesthings:

oooo.. this is gorgeous.
  10:12am original famous sugarwolf:

I saw the picture you posted of DJ Icepack's birthday cake. It looks so delicious! can you make me one for mine???
Avatar 10:12am Trouble:

@ gibier oui, c'est vrai, tres triste. J'ai des discs a jouer. hmmmm?
Avatar 10:13am Trouble:

original sugarwolf when is this birthday?
  10:16am nEIL cOMMA wILD:

@Bobdoesthings-no idea, I will ask the hunter guy if google doesn't answer it...google says habituated turkeys will try to mad dog people and will peck at car tires in an attempt to dominate them...big birds, I would be afraid!
Avatar 10:17am βrian:

I doubt they'd stand up to a surly pack of geese.
  10:18am original famous sugarwolf:

Geese are scary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19am Greg from ZONE 5:

Morning, all!
  10:19am nEIL cOMMA wILD:

WOW a Canada Goose bit a coworker on the back, he said it felt like vice grip pliers.l Ouch!
  10:19am original famous sugarwolf:

Sunday! Also St Nicholas day and the start of Hanukkah. I will leave my shoes out overnight and see if St Nicholas leaves and latkes or gelt in them...
Avatar 10:21am Trouble:

bonne anniversaire sugarwolf! perhaps since you are far away we will have to wait till you are closer. banana cake with coconut whipped cream and carmelized bananas does not ship well
Avatar 10:23am βrian:

I once saw a farmer toss an attacking goose 15 feet, using a technique like that of an olympic hammer thrower. The goose was unharmed but clearly reflective.
  10:24am original famous sugarwolf:

Merci beaucoup, trouble. I have to decide what dessert(s) I do want this weekend.
Avatar 10:27am βrian:

Warm shortcake accompanied by peaches macerated in dark rum. Lightly maple-sweetened whipped cream overtop, yo.
Avatar 10:27am Erella:

  10:40am Adrian in London:

@Trouble Have you heard the latest Four Tet album, Morning/Evening? Two tracks, and one the year's best LPs.
Avatar 10:42am Ben Uno-Air Logic:

@Trouble ooh! thanks for letting me know about that. i'll be sure to listen.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43am Ken From Hyde Park:

Avatar 11:05am bobdoesthings:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:06am Ken From Hyde Park:

EAS...the Debbie Downer of the radio business. Hoo boy.
  11:06am emily:

@dean: I heard that too.
Avatar 11:06am βrian:

Why can't U.S. radio just let things play out? It's just so weird.
Avatar 11:07am bobdoesthings:

Avatar 11:11am bobdoesthings:

"The Dance of the Postal Trucks" "Handsome but Dead" "Samply bits" trouble.. you're the best. heheh.
  11:11am Dean:

@βrian: Regulation of US radio spectrum allocation is a matter for federal officials, a relatively rare circumstance here, where the states tend (with exceptions, of course) to establish and enforce laws. Central coast-to-coast governance demands relatively rigid rules, without which station ID and other obligations would be handled chaotically, if at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:13am Adrian in London:

Happy birthday Sugarwolf - any birthday where you get a Francoise song played for you has got to be a good one.
Avatar 11:15am βrian:

It's the notion the radio content is necessarily delivered in small discrete packets that baffles me. This ain't Morse code.
  11:19am Dean:

Well, it is delivered in small discrete packets. They're usually called ads or spots, WFMU being the exception to the rule.
  11:19am Brendan:

Or every artist ( even the one singing now) could integrate an EAS shriek randomly in their catalogue.
Avatar 11:28am fred:

@Brendan: Broadcasting that would be illegal, with a severe fine. The topic came up a few times on playlists
  11:28am Dean:

Yeah, how can you test an emergency broadcast system absent a real emergency?

Along these lines, I was wondering recently if one could call 911 (a US phone number for reporting an emergency, akin to UK's 999, I think) to ask, "Quick! I've forgotten the number to reach the police for non-emergencies! Do you have it?!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am Ken From Hyde Park:

I wonder if the EAS is available as a phone ringtone.
Avatar 11:32am fred:

EAS fines: www.broadcastlawblog.com...
Avatar 11:34am bobdoesthings:

@kenfromhydepark - if it isn't already.. anyone can make that happen now-a-days.
Avatar 11:38am bobdoesthings:

@kenfromhydepark -- UGHH.. nevermind. horrendous idea.. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 11:40am Trouble:

@brian: you are talking to the wrong radio station. you must mean this post for a top 40 station, not wfmu
Avatar 11:43am βrian:

Nah, I'm talking to the FCC which is still operating from an early 20th century perspective.
Avatar 11:44am chromaphone:

Was singing I am a Child to my boy this weekend :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48am thriftstoreleather:

your show is always great, Trouble. But this show is inspired!
  11:48am BrianFromMA:

So why are the Giles, Giles and Fripp demos so much better than the actual POS album they put out? Lovely song, Judy sings this a lot better than Sinfield did on "Still"
Avatar 11:49am bobdoesthings:

anyone else not having the pop-up player update with track listings? just curious.. maybe new site glitch?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am thriftstoreleather:

select the popup from the playlist...it seems to work better
Avatar 11:50am chromaphone:

While we are talking about technical issues... is there any way to listen to archived shows on my iPhone?
Avatar 11:51am Trouble:

thanks thrift store leather! good to hear since i am under the weather while at this today
  11:52am Ike:

Classical stations interpret the station ID rules as allowing them to finish out playing a very long piece beyond 5 min. after the top of the hour, as long as the announcer says the ID ASAP *after* the long piece ends. However FMU may be operating w/an extra abundance of caution given that the FCC is often less than 100% clear about... well, anything.
  11:54am Listener Robert:

It's the "continuous programming" exception. Everybody agrees it's OK for covering a news event. Something planned, like playing a record, I could see where they say that's stretching the point.
Avatar 11:55am βrian:

I recall listening to a special on Messaiens on French radio. Hypnotically beautiful and I think a single segment spanned over two hours. So nice.
  11:55am Dean:

WFMU should devote a program to playing unexpurgated George Carlin albums. That'll teach the FCC.
Avatar 11:55am βrian:

…uninterrupted, I mean.
Avatar 11:55am bobdoesthings:

@thriftstoreleather - ah. thanks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am Jeff Golick:

@chromaphone: yes, archived shows can be found via the WFMU iPhone app. Do you have this already installed?
Avatar 11:57am chromaphone:

oh cool. i didn't know there was an app. thanks JG!

  11:59am Gibier:

I loved Katie von Schleicher who I didn't know. Merci Trouble.
Not that they sound alike but I'm just wondering. Do you like Scout Niblett?
