Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Welcome Dervish.

This is the only time we'll here Jimmy sing today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:15pm Lewis:

funny - don't remember this from Dad's 5th dimension collection...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Lewis:

you are making it very hard for me to go and get the food that I desperately need...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Lewis!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Parq:

Nancy changed octaves to avoid the high notes. Her dad never would have done that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

This is nourishment for your ears.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Uncle Michael:

Right Parq...no way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Lewis:

which my ears very much appreciate!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Uncle Michael:

I know...I played this track just a few weeks ago. If I knew then what I know now...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Lewis:

I know...
Avatar 12:26pm 67tele:

clever jimmy Vaughn reference
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Uncle Michael:

It was inadvertent, Tele.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Parq:

"Rosecrans Boulevard" was a really neat, strange song. I think I'm going to have to go back and listen to it again. Kind of enigmatic, and with an unconventional tune. Reminded me of Bacharach's "Hasbrouck Heights", but in a woebegone way.
Avatar 12:34pm 67tele:

Webb has a great book "Tunesmith" for songwriting - great to read his writing, tho by the time you get to the chapters on music theory, the weaklings (me) start getting separated from the heavy hitters
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Uncle Michael:

I have always meant to read that. I've always heard raves for it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Uncle Michael:

"find that dappled dream of yours"
Avatar 12:40pm Brian in UK:

Can we just have three hours of the Lineman?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Webhamster Henry:

Jimmy Webb will be at the Cutting Room in NYC on Oct 23rd, up here in the Hudson Valley at the Towne Crier in Beacon on the 24th
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

GO SEE HIM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Uncle Michael:

Brian...right?
Avatar 12:42pm Roberto:

Witchitalkin' 'bout?
Avatar 12:43pm Brian in UK:

I never want to own this song because it is perfect for radio and my heart skips a beat every time it comes on.
Avatar 12:43pm 67tele:

Jimmy proves once again in that song, you don't always need a bridge
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Uncle Michael:

Lineman or Worst Thing?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Parq:

Brian, never thought of it that way, but you're dead right. I bet I could think of a number of other songs that would apply to.
Avatar 12:44pm Brian in UK:

Lineman
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Parq:

Worst Thing has a bridge. And no pun intended re the artists.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm doctorjazz:

Hi Hinky Dinkyers!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13pm Guido from Cologne:

Hello Michael & everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Guido!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Uncle Michael:

This is one of the 8-10.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Parq:

I could never pick one song or one performance as a clear favorite, but I gotta give a shout out to our local stalwarts McGinty and White and their stunning performance of "Witchita".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm listener james from westwood:

Huh, never heard an Orff open to this song before. Interesting!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm doctorjazz:

Please get my cake out of the rain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Uncle Michael:

Sorry about the cake...and the orff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Uncle Michael:

Ok, I have one favorite...this.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Parq:

This is pretty damn good.
Avatar 1:38pm ndbob:

ever hear the original version of "Galveston" by Don Ho?
  1:39pm Santos L Halper:

Loving what I can catch here UM, looking forward to uninterrupted archiving. Esp the Peggy Lipton (been rewatching Twin Peaks lately).

Visited Galveston for the first time last summer; got chills blasting that song coming in over the bridge...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:40pm Uncle Michael:

No, Bob.

Hi Santos!

  1:55pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Enjoying a little of the show while I have a snippet of WiFi. In rustic but unconnected NE PA. This'll be one for the archives. May our teams fight a noble battle. MR MET may have a few black cats leftover from '69!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Uncle Michael:

Hey Kevin! We eat curses for breakfast now.
Avatar 1:59pm Jeff:

Enjoying this show a lot - I've always been a big Webb fan (even while not having realized quite all the things he wrote).

This Nilsson number sounds, well, very Nilsson-y.
Avatar 2:01pm Brian in UK:

Uncle, enjoying the October theme.

Phil's scared of Phil.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Uncle Michael:

Thank you Jeff.

Brian...that may be exactly right.
  2:04pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Saw Webb at the Bottom Line around '99. Great show. Art Garfunkel came out for a song or two.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Uncle Michael:

I agree that sounded Nilsson-y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm Uncle Michael:

They're very close friends and Art's recorded a LOT of Webb songs.
Avatar 2:07pm 67tele:

Cass Elliot...the other Spanky
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:08pm Uncle Michael:

Well...sort of the other way around. Spanky McFarland sang with the M&Ps in a post-Cass incarnations.
Avatar 2:08pm 67tele:

or vice versa
Avatar 2:08pm 67tele:

yes thats what i was realizing
Avatar 2:09pm chromaphone:

My Mom used to play this album a lot and I now own it on CD. Good tune UM.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Uncle Michael:

Hi Chrome. Which album?
  2:11pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Yup...This one!
Avatar 2:11pm chromaphone:

I think it's called Angel Clare. Love the lush arrangements. There is one song though where the violins or horns are out of tune!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:13pm Uncle Michael:

Yikes...lush and dissonant!
Avatar 2:15pm chromaphone:

I think it's one of the tunes I really like and all of the sudden part of the orchestra sounds super dissonant, but I never noticed it when I was a wee lad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:26pm Uncle Michael:

Heavy Bacharach influence.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Uncle Michael:

Oof...not feeling this last couple of tracks. We're gonna wrap this up soon!
  2:57pm Terry Flannery:

Thank you. I had no idea of how much Jimmy Webb has contributed to my musical well-being throughout my life. Great show!
Avatar 2:57pm Brian in UK:

Nice one, Uncle.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Uncle Michael:

thanks Terry! Thanks Brian!
Avatar 2:58pm ndbob:

excellent show UM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm Webhamster Henry:

Any cassingles going steady?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:01pm listener james from westwood:

Always a pleasure, UM! Thanks, and have a safe weekend, all!
