Happy Midnight, Meghan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05am nixxon:

Hi Meghan - you are our only hope!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07am Meghan:

Oh man.... now that is a lot of pressure..... let's just get a bit nostalgic and dance around like there are no problems!
  12:09am JakeGould:

Hey Meghan! Happy to spend some post, “cleaning up tools and cables” time with you and this show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09am Ken From Hyde Park:

From the picture, I'm inferring you're not playing anything from Men Without Hats tonight? Because those men are sharing an enormous hat.
  12:09am P-90:

How about: Meghan, you're one of our somewhat limited number of hopes!
  12:10am P-90:

LOVE this song btw
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10am Meghan:

hehehe.... one of them is Vaughn Oliver.....

BGZ! Howdy!
  12:13am P-90:

Let's Active is not remembered like they should be
  12:15am Kmo:

Hi Meghan, what happened to Mary?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16am Meghan:

She has an event to go to tomorrow where she needs to have a full night's rest
  12:18am Kmo:

Well, you are awesome replacement, so far. An chance for a 3oak in plans?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19am Meghan:

  12:20am JakeGould:

Three of a kind. Acronyms are too insidery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20am Meghan:

ahhhhhhh hahaha..... I'm so not hip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21am Meghan:

All night tonight we are going back into the way back machine and revisiting my teenage years...
  12:21am Listener Robert:

Oh. I thought it meant "Soak".
  12:22am KP:

Woo hoo
  12:23am JakeGould:

@Meghan: 1980s? I graduated H.S. in 1986 so hey… This is old folk music right here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24am Meghan:

hahaha..... I graduated in 1992..... so I was in high school at 1988
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26am nixxon:

'88 high school graduation for me too. That marked the end of much suffering, but songs like these helped me through
  12:26am JakeGould:

Whoa… I need my Geritol and a nap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am nixxon:

"Party Hardy, Rock and Roll, drink a six pack, smoke a bowl. Sex is awesome drugs are great, we're the class of '88"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27am Meghan:

Nice mantra!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28am nixxon:

That's what I learned was our class song, from the "cool" kids, hehe
  12:30am Kmo:

@nixxon. Was that a Catholic High School?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:31am Fuzzy:

M.H.S. '82 here -- wonder if she'll play Valley Girl?
Avatar 12:32am slugluv1313:

yikes! fetch me my walking stick and stuff me in the old geezer home -- i graduated in '77! but yeah, during high school & college, many of these tunes got me through tough times too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:34am nixxon:

@Kmo: nope, a public school
  12:35am Kmo:

@nixxon. Could've been, though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35am nixxon:

@Kmo: definitely. I was raised catholic, and there were certainly lots of them about!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38am Ike:

Hello hello! How's it burbling tonight? Good to hear ya, Meghan.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39am Meghan:

Good evening Ike!
Avatar 1:04am BadGuyZero:

Those "Just Say [fill in the blank" label samplers that Sire Records released in the late 80s/early 90s were good compilations. They introduced me to a few bands.
  1:04am leshwatt:

Meghan is back? Whoa, nobody told me!!
  1:04am leshwatt:

Welcome back
Avatar 1:06am BadGuyZero:

Just Say Mary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am Meghan:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08am Meghan:

And thanks leshwatt!
  1:10am KP:

Stone Roses, most ignored in US Brit band ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11am Meghan:

I was so mad that they played out at Coachella and never came around here.
Avatar 1:15am BadGuyZero:

One of my fave bands when I was in high school was The Godfathers. I flew up to Chicago in 2009 to see their first U.S. show in almost twenty years. It was the first time I'd seen them since they were support on Love & Rockets 1989 U.S. tour.
  1:16am KP:

The bourgeois prob flew them in for a one off
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16am Īke:

Stone Roses were not that ignored where I was. A lot of the hype leaked across from the UK, and the other alt fans in my school were into them.
  1:16am KP:

But over there, parades, tv, posters in stores
  1:17am JakeGould:

@Meghan: !!! This is pretty much my end of college, working around Gramercy Park playlist of 1991 or so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17am Meghan:

I hadn't seen J&M Chain until this past month. It was one of those- I'll see them next time....
  1:18am JakeGould:

@Īke: Well, compared to Oasis and Blur the Stone Roses and pretty much the rest of the bands that Meghan is playing didn’t hit the radar of most Americans.
  1:18am JakeGould:

@Meghan: Never saw Jesus and Mary Chain live but did see My Bloody Valentine live at their peak so… Got my fill of feedback…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Meghan:

Oh I could go deep in this area. I had people from the UK convinced I was from the UK. They had no clue how I knew of half of these bands
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19am Meghan:

Me too Jake..... did Pale Saints open for them?
  1:19am KP:

If you are familiar with the Blog that Celebrates Itself, the latest one is Ride.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20am Meghan:

oh wait, that was Ride that Pale Saints opened for...... Buffalo Tom opened for MBV
  1:20am JakeGould:

@Meghan: Nope. This was the somewhat famous show at the Ritz during CMJ in 1992 I think with Superchunk, Pavement and My Blood Valentine.
  1:21am rw:

Fun show tonight! The theme is "Filling in for Mary"? Been dancing around in the kitchen. Hope the neighbors have been watching.
  1:21am JakeGould:

@KP: You mean this? theblogthatcelebratesitself.bandcamp.com...
Avatar 1:22am BadGuyZero:

@JakeGould: That's the show that Jon Wurster and Tom Scharpling met each other at.
  1:25am JakeGould:

@BadGuyZero: Small world! I have scans of my ticket stubs—part of a personal archiving project—and here is what I went to that’s relevant to this show:

• 1991-02-28 - Charlatans UK & The Cavedogs - The Ritz
• 1991-03-21 - Ride - The Marquee
• 1991-04-29 - Lush & Smashing Orange - The Marquee
• 1991-11-23 - The Pixies & Pere Ubu - The Ritz
• 1992-03-27 - Lush & Poster Children - The Ritz
• 1992-06-19 - My Bloody Valentine, Superchunk & Pavement - The Ritz
• 1992-06-20 - Ride - The Academy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28am Meghan:

Ugh, I never got to see Lush, I kick myself for that..... Love that the Cavedogs opened for Charlatans! I saw the Charlatans at Irving Plaza
  1:28am Kmo:

Up next after the Del Feguoes will be the Bodeans and then following that will be Charlie Sexton
  1:29am JakeGould:

Seems like the Stone Roses only really toured the U.S. in the mid 1990s? www.songkick.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30am Meghan:

Oh I could have totally thrown in some Bodeans!
  1:30am JakeGould:

@Meghan: Yeah, Lush live was amazing in those early days. I know they are playing 2 dates in the U.K. but if they come to the U.S., then jump on that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32am Meghan:

oh I am already planning on it. tempted to just go to the UK!
Avatar 1:36am BadGuyZero:

I'm figuring out how many My Bloody Valentine shows I'm going to go to when their new album comes out in 2037.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37am Meghan:

hahaha, so true....
  1:39am JakeGould:

Full confession: I can’t even begin to state how much that “MBV” album disappointed me. To me it’s just “Loveless” and “Isn't Anything” and that’s it. “Soft as Snow But Warm Inside” is great!
  1:45am Marek:

Greetings from Poland! Great music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:46am Nate K:

Hey Meghan, sounding great. I never make requests, but I'm dying for Tom Waits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Meghan:

oh Poland! Why hello!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Nate K:

Wait(s), do your thing, I'll play Waits on my show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47am Meghan:

Look at Nate, dropping in requests!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48am Nate K:

Love and Rockets, "So Alive"
  2:01am Kmo:

is this Dear God from the Polarity Corrected " skylarking" 2014 edition? This song is a big favorite. http://www.slicingupeyeballs.com/2014/02/24/xtc-skylarking-corrected-polarity-reissue-cd/
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02am Meghan:

oh crazy..... I never heard that. This is the original
  2:05am Kmo:

this sinead is a great song. Ur great.
  2:13am Kmo:

@Meghan. Thx!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14am Meghan:

no worries!
  2:21am JakeGould:

FWIW, I dug up info on the pic… 4AD’s in-house design team! www.thewire.co.uk...
  2:23am JakeGould:

And yeah, Megan mentioned Vaughn Oliver but just fleshing things out.
  2:24am Cooh John:

Enjoying the aquatic tour
Avatar 2:31am BadGuyZero:

Supersuckers used to do a show on Halloween as Thin Lizzy Seance. Lots of Phil Lynott zombie jokes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:32am Meghan:

That photo is great and I came across it for the first time tonight..... It looks like something that was taken long ago....
Avatar 2:32am BadGuyZero:

One year they opened for The Fastbacks, who had decided to be Supersuckers for Halloween and started their set with a few covers of 'suckers songs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33am Meghan:

It's a crap shoot.... some bands are great and some not so much...... I was blown away by a Bowie cover band that could've gone either way......
Avatar 2:38am BadGuyZero:

Dallas has way too many cover/tribute bands. I know other cities have their fair share. But I'm pretty sure Dallas has the most per capita.
  2:38am JakeGould:

@Meghan: Bringing this to Mary’s show… When she does “Three of a Kind” she sometimes takes suggestions and is pretty clear when the cover songs she finds just stink. Some bands are just a tad… Deluded? But rediscovered Ministry’s cover of “Gimme Shelter” a day or so back… WOW! Great cover.
  2:39am JakeGould:

@BadGuyZero: Back in the early to mid-ish 1990s there were still TONS of classic rock cover bands playing at bars on Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. Now it’s just bars and dude-bro drunk food places. I miss those cover bands.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:42am Ken From Hyde Park:

Were Violent Femmes or The Psychedelic Furs part of your high school experience, Meghan? just curious.
  2:43am JakeGould:

@Ken: Kinda scary how many people I meet might not be into alternative music or anything past mainstream but they ALL know “Blister in the Sun.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43am Meghan:

of course! Loved Dumb Waiters..... such a great song. And you could never go wrong with Gone Daddy Gone. I totally have a thing for xylophones....
Avatar 2:44am BadGuyZero:

"Blister In The Sun" : Violent Femmes :: "Punk Rock Girl" : The Dead Milkmen
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46am Meghan:

I was in a car singing along to Punk Rock Girl, 3 of us were, and the 4th person said- How do you all know the words to this song?! ha
Avatar 2:47am Paul D:

This is all some of my favorite 80s alternative rawk
  2:50am Casper:

Thank you, Meghan! ❤ Your selections tonight are going straight to the soft squishy part of my heart. Randomly tuned in tonight. It's so lovely to hear so many of my favorites from high school and college.
  2:51am comatosefratguy:

Good show 2nite
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54am Meghan:

Awww, thanks all! As you may be able to tell, there is a soft spot in my heart for all this too!
Avatar 2:56am BadGuyZero:

Great to hear you again, Meghan. I hope it's not too long before your make a return appearance on/to the FMU airwaves/interwebs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56am Ike:

This is all good, but that Lush track is still freaking spectacular after all this time. I should listen to that more often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:57am Meghan:

me too!
