Hey Jeff, great start!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:03am pacific standard simon:

Make a skronk noise here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06am pacific standard simon:

Is dis a theme?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:06am coelacanth:

hello Jeff and ghetto dwellers
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09am pacific standard simon:

Please don't play "Dark Side Of The Moon", please.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:09am coelacanth:

- but this is obviously a Van Morrison cover!
Avatar 3:10am Eiderdown:

Good morning all! Let the lunacy begin...
Avatar 3:11am mauri:

cptn kidd went to the moon he's waving his saber in the air
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11am coelacanth:

ha! -nice,Ei!
Avatar 3:11am Jeff Conklin:

Morning, all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12am pacific standard simon:

Youtube shows a bunch of Norwegian vids for the word "Arnalds", and asks if I meant " Arnold's Tank". haha
Avatar 3:13am Bentangle:

Keep on chooglin'.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14am coelacanth:

yeah.... did they make that word up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15am pacific standard simon:

How long have you had that computer, Jeff?
Avatar 3:15am Jeff Conklin:

Maybe it's misspelled on my computer? I don't know. All the tracks are pretty cool.
Avatar 3:16am Jeff Conklin:

When I transferred all my music from a drive to my new computer, it lost the itunes metadata for when the tracks were added to my library.
Avatar 3:16am Eiderdown:

man, this Gandalf LP rules...woo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17am coelacanth:

Avatar 3:18am Bentangle:

I think they did coelacanth, I like it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18am pacific standard simon:

There's an Icelandic musician named Ólafur Arnalds. Might be a good place to start looking.

Avatar 3:19am Eiderdown:

That happened to me once...transferred a bunch of noise and black metal tracks over and they got jumbled, lost the band names etc. Just a bunch of tracks called "Pain", "Hate" and "Bleak Forest" etc...never really figured it all out
Avatar 3:19am Jeff Conklin:

  3:20am Carly Fiorina:

Shrinking Moon for You by Wooden Shjips
Avatar 3:23am Jeff Conklin:

Thanks, Carly. Never could really get into those guys, believe it or not...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am pacific standard simon:

How about "Moonlight Drive" by The Doors? Or is that too pedestrian?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am coelacanth:

could very much get into THESE guys!
...one of the best bands of the 60s.
Avatar 3:26am Eiderdown:

Soooooo many good moon songs obviously
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26am coelacanth:

(13th floor elevators, that is- though the 'dead were good too!)
Avatar 3:26am Jeff Conklin:

Love that Doors. Also love how you guys think I take requests all of a sudden ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27am pacific standard simon:

"We Like The Moon"

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am pacific standard simon:

Ha... Ha... Ha... [shoots self]
Avatar 3:32am Eiderdown:

Digging this version of Mountains Of The Moon
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am pacific standard simon:

2033, Jeff. That's the next one.
  3:34am mto:

Next 'Super Moon' 2033
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35am coelacanth:

there's nothing but time.
...or, there's nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:37am pacific standard simon:

Interesting for me -- that's the year I've always believed I'd die. Might be something like Mark Twain believing he'd die the year that Halley's Comet came back -- and then he did.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40am coelacanth:

my father believes he'll die at 84,which is next year; because it's a family tradition- and so he will.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am pacific standard simon:

I guess I'll find out if there's anything in it in... about 18 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43am coelacanth:

you should hang around long enough to see the blood moon, then go in peace.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am coelacanth:

17-18 years ago i felt- & logically thought- i'd live 'till 100 or 101.
now i'll be surprised if i see 60.
...i'm okay with that.
Avatar 3:47am Eiderdown:

Blood moon brings out the morbid in you all, eh? Ha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am coelacanth:

not me....although i must say i felt pretty small and transient whilst gazing up at that satellite this evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:51am pacific standard simon:

Web sources are vague about when in 2033 that eclipse will occur. My death vision was a little more specific: November 2033.

@Eiderdown - It's the Moon's time of the month.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52am coelacanth:

quite like this piece.
Avatar 3:52am Bentangle:

I love this.
Avatar 3:57am Eiderdown:

Yeah, floating with this one...nice.
In relation to the moon and gazing upon it, as they would say "Many feels were had..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am pacific standard simon:

This one's more my speed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am coelacanth:

as i walked into town to a place where there's less ambient light than in my yard ('sounds backwards, right?) there were clusters of people frequently; assembled- usually with beverage or herbs, to view the moon. there was occasional human howling as well.
...i like my town!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am coelacanth:

(what a beautiful song.)
Avatar 4:02am slugluv1313:

@ coelacanth: agreed! absolutely adore "Harvest Moon," was thinking about it and singing it my head when i was walking about earlier . . . the clouds cleared a bit, moved away from the Moon -- but only AFTER the eclipse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02am pacific standard simon:

@coelacanth - I know what you mean. I have a great front yard, with a piece of a view of Seattle, but there's a big ass street light over the intersection. The eclipse was nice, but it would have been better a block or two closer to town.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04am pacific standard simon:

Moonlight becomes you, Jeff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07am coelacanth:

slugluv i'm sorry you missed it. i got lucky here.
- i don't know why i didn't think of that song all night. i played songs on the jukebox at the bar- and that one would've been a hit for sure.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09am coelacanth:

Jeff, i don't feel morose when i consider my body's demise.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am pacific standard simon:

Same here. It's like the final birthday party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am coelacanth:

ha! yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14am pacific standard simon:

Or the finale of All That Jazz.
Avatar 4:16am Eiderdown:

Love the organ on this track
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:16am coelacanth:

(- which i haven't seen, but i know the story.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:19am pacific standard simon:

You should, it's a fun movie -- unless you're prone to unreasonable expectations and depression.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:23am pacific standard simon:

Wish I could count all the individual strings being strummed on that Six Organs track.
Avatar 4:31am Bentangle:

I want a vintage Tom Rush mo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31am pacific standard simon:

I feel an automatic sort of respect for old "folkies", similar to what I feel for the "founding fathers" of the USA.
Avatar 4:34am Jeff Conklin:

Only recently discovered that Rush cover of David Wiffen. It's really good. Quite a different approach than the original and Roger McGuinn's (which I listen to daily)
Avatar 4:36am slugluv1313:

All That Jazz is amazing, finale is SO 1970s-over-the-top! DEFINITELY check it out! (and i am not just saying that b/c i am a huge Fosse fan too!)
the Moon here was BLAZING all night, despite the clouds! then decided to be all *shy* when it was time for the eclipse here -- ??!
reading & kinda doing a crash course in tetrads, Blood Moons, Harvest Moons, etc. (apparently this is a Harvest Moon too; next month is a Blood Moon) . . . there will be more Blood Moon eclipses but no more Super-Moon Blood Moons until 2032/2033 -- lots of information here:
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37am pacific standard simon:

Has any label put out a boxed set of the acoustic, pre-electric-Dylan singers? Tom Paxton and such?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43am pacific standard simon:

Dammit . Flashplayer is suddenly crashing every website that uses it. Anyone else having that problem?
Avatar 4:43am Bentangle:

One of my favourite Avant Ghetto's ever and I'll catch the rest on the app tomorrow, but for now, goodnight!
Avatar 4:44am Jeff Conklin:

Goodnight, Bentangle. Thanks for listening
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:45am pacific standard simon:

Sleep with the fishes. Oh, wait -- that must be wrong.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47am coelacanth:

i'm turning the light off. i'll be hearing but not blabbering.
Thanks Jeff. 'twas Lovely!

goodnight everyone and Thanks slugluv & Simon for the movie endorsement. i'll put it in my list!
Avatar 4:48am Jeff Conklin:

Night, coel. Thanks
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:49am pacific standard simon:

Goonight, ol' fish.
Avatar 5:04am CDToaster:

@Pacific: Yeah, I'm getting that too. What OS are you running?

@Jeff: I've loved that Driving Wheel song so much, for so long (45 years), I thought Rush wrote it! Listening to the writer's version, and the Byrds', I believe this is one of those rare instances where Rush's cover is superior to the original, or to any other for that matter. There's really something about Tom's delivery that hits the heart so I identifiably, especially as I age. I think Tom's version is perfect. And you Jeff, are the only dj to play that piece on an archived playlist, believe it or not. Beautiful choice and wonderful show. You really know your stuff.
Avatar 5:14am Jeff Conklin:

Did you check out the version from McGuinn's first solo LP? It's better than the one the Byrds recorded for (but left off) 'Farther Along'. To me, McGuin''s reading is so exasperated and almost frantic it makes it incredible.
Avatar 5:19am CDToaster:

No Jeff, only the Byrds' ver., not McGuinn's solo so I'll do that now... thanks for the tip. Will get back to you soon.
Avatar 5:20am Jeff Conklin:

Don't do it now! There's 40 minutes left to the show ;)
Avatar 5:22am the Canterbury wood-elf:

Damn, missed my favourite Dead song. But I did get up at 3a.m. and see the (spectacular) eclipse.
Avatar 5:36am CDToaster:

@Jeff: Just heard Roger's ver. on YouTube but don't worry, I didn't leave your wonderful show - my computer's set up so I can listen to several things at once, with each volume independently controlled. The song's as you described. But I still strongly prefer Tom's. At 62, my favs will probably never change. I go back to when Brewer & Ship did Witchi-Tai-To, before (I believe) their One Toke Over the Line fame. I learn so much from you and fmu. Thanks for great selections tonight!
Avatar 5:49am Eiderdown:

Great show Jeff, gotta bail!! Good morning!
Avatar 5:49am Jeff Conklin:

Thanks, Adam. Have a great day, man
