Listener comments!

  6:34pm Jill B.:

Hi Gary,

This opening number is very mellow.....I like it....just what I need today. Package to you finally in the mail today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:35pm Gary:

Hi, Mom! You're actually listening to the stream itself right now -- it's basically what's on Doug's computer. I won't get started for another 25 minutes or so!
  6:36pm Jill B.:

Well, I jumped the gun! This is the program that proceeds you!!!!! My, oh,my, I am aging rapidly!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:36pm Gary:

It's because I sent the announcement email out so early!
Avatar 🇰🇷 6:47pm tim abdellah:

Hey Gary - great show last week. I was in airplane mode at the time, so I had to listen to it in the archives. Looking forward to tonight's offerings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:49pm Gary:

Tim! I have got to have you on the show. IF you can't come out to NYC, maybe we can talk about doing something via Skype or Google Hangouts ...
Avatar 🇰🇷 6:57pm tim abdellah:

I'd love to do it! Let's talk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:00pm Gary:

Great! I'll be in touch soon!
Avatar 7:00pm ndbob:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm listener james from westwood:

Good evening, Gary and all! I too was listening from early on. (And it is the autumnal equinox.)
  7:04pm Jill B.:

It's the equinox. Summer Solstice.
  7:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Yes Gary - Autumnal Equinox.
Equinox =s 'Equal Night' ; one of two days a year day & night are equal length. The other is 1st day of Spring (opposite now in the year).
Then there are the Solstices - =s 'Sun stands still' - which begin Summer & Winter - the longest (Summer) & shortest (Winter, right before Xmas) daylight of the year. & these are your season-starting days, the 'four corners' of the wheel of the year, if you will...
Avatar 7:07pm ndbob:

ah I am corrected:)
Avatar 7:08pm ndbob:

ty Rev
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Gary:

James! RevRab! - and that glitch you just heard was part of the track, NOT my crazy cat pulling on the wires ... :)

  7:08pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...astrology nut. Your Welcome.
  7:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm listener james from westwood:

Not a prob, ndbob! Hoping the eventual winter isn't as brutal as some of your ND ones used to be!
  7:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...so, today day & night are equal length, & night will get longer until just before Xmas...Northern Hemisphere, that is!
  7:11pm Doug Schulkind:

I saw True Grit in the theater when it came out and the had nightmares for weeks after. It was the woman falling in the snakepit scene that was the culprit. I plan to sleep like a baby after THIS show, however. Hello Gary! Hello everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:13pm Gary:

Doug! I saw that movie in the theater when it came out, too, and don't remember much about it, other than John Wayne's face. Oh, and while I have you here: THANK YOU for turning me on to this Darso album!
  7:15pm Doug Schulkind:

Don't thank me, tHENK me!
Avatar 7:20pm ndbob:

me too James!
Avatar 7:22pm ndbob:

I also saw True Grit when it came out - saw the remake on Netflix - the novel is well worth reading too
  7:24pm Bill:

Woah! Sorry I'm late...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm Gary:

This track is part of a terrific CD to be released very soon by Dust-to-Digital
  7:36pm Doug Schulkind:

I think we can pinpoint the date exactly as "yesteryear."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Gary:

^That would solve an awful lot of everything
Avatar 7:45pm hyde:

or to be more specific, those halycon days of yesteryear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Gary:

Avatar 7:48pm hyde:

@ndb to go back a bit, i think the novel of True Grit is great. Love Charles Portis. Dog of the South is even better.
Avatar 7:53pm ndbob:

@Hyde - ty - I should read that - did anyone see the remake?
Avatar 7:54pm steve:

hey Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Gary:

I haven't seen the remake -- it's the Coen Brothers, yeah?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:56pm Gary:

Avatar 7:56pm steve:

what happened to The Avalanches? Since I Left You was my #1 fav album for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:57pm Gary:

Yeah, that album is amazing
Avatar 7:58pm ndbob:

@Gary - yep it's pretty good I thought - Haylee Steinfeld is better then Kim Darby - tho Kim was good
Avatar 7:59pm ndbob:

excellent first hour Gary! - catch the rest on the archive - I can leave the chat window open for a bit
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Gary:

Night, Bob!
Avatar 8:15pm steve:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Gary:

Avatar 8:18pm Peter Nelson:

Hi Gary. Evenin' all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Gary:

Peter! Howdy and welcome!
Avatar 8:19pm hyde:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Gary:

I believe Peter's official debut is next Tuesday: www.wfmu.org...
  8:26pm Doug Schulkind:

I forgot the True Grit remake was a Coen Brothers joint. Makes me wanna watch it some.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm Gary:

I haven't even seen Lubowski (sp?) yet ... but I think it might be on Netflix streaming
Avatar 8:33pm hyde:

i have always thought lebowski was overrated, but i dunno. i haven't really seen it since it came out. should probably look it over again.
  8:34pm Doug Schulkind:

Big Leboswki is a Talmudic touchstone in our house.
Avatar 8:35pm Peter Nelson:

Priests of Dudism here. Certificates and everything. Fuck it.
Avatar 8:36pm Peter Nelson:

Sean Hocking. Nice guy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm northguineahills:

My wife hadn't seen Lebowski until a this summer. It blew her mind she had never seen it before. (She also also has a huge crush on Steve Bucemi)
  8:41pm Doug Schulkind:

Meredith Monk's music is audible during a scene in the film!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm Gary:

NGH! Steve B's hard not to like
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm northguineahills:

@Doug: When I rewatched the movie recently, I recognized it, and pointed out!
  8:45pm Doug Schulkind:

I either forgot or never knew, until I did some research for a Monk special I did a while back.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm Gary:

Do you have a link for that show, Doug?
Avatar 8:49pm hyde:

wow, i never noticed the meredith monk!
Avatar 🇰🇷 8:50pm tim abdellah:

  8:51pm Doug Schulkind:

On my phone now, Gary. Will have to dig up the link later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:52pm Gary:

It's it incredible? I love love love it. I wish I could remember where I found it originally
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Gary:

Okay, thanks, Doug. I did a bit of initial searching but "Give the Drummer Radio" and "meredith Monk" comes up with a LOT of hits!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:44pm Gary:

Ahhhh, that's okay, Mayuko -- I know that feeling well. When were you in the forest (and where IS that forest, btw)? That was a lovely pic you posted on FB ... it's actually in Queens?
Avatar 9:48pm Mayuko:

yah! that's Forest Park, right by my house. didn't take that today though - I took it the other day and forgot to post it. Queens is such a diverse, wonderful place, with big forest and great delis for Gary to dig music!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Gary:

Gotta remember Forest Park.
