Street interviews, listener call-ins, vinyl gluttery, sporadic normalcy, original floperas and fiktion, blatant talking over songs, politix, tenderness, and a vague undercurrent of angst. Right up your alley!

Avatar 3:49pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Jake 3:44 -- funny flashback there. I had the 800XL, same time period. ,,, with cassette drive, 'natch.
  3:50pm JakeGould:

@cosmicmatrix: Nah. I'm not nostalgic for hardware. Even when I emulate an Atari 400/800 on my Mac I just feel stultified. It just doesn't hold my interest. I mainly used the Atari 400 as a kid to play games. Which made me happy but pissed off family members who wanted me to program games instead of just playing them. I only actually cared about programming when I got into web development on a Mac in 1994; decades later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50pm redkayak:

I'd put Margaret Trudeau on the ten-spot...
  3:50pm marc15:

@Brian And it would take a lot less than 40 whacks too
Avatar 3:51pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

whoa, cecile; the heathkit catalog was a thing of weird beauty. All those no-soldering kits. The pre-internet era seems strangely archaic all of a sudden.

I like the Dan.
Avatar 3:53pm cosmic matrix:

That 800XL was sleek. My TRS-80 was like magic for me. Mom got it at a tag sale for $20 (this was probably 1985)... CLOAD !! oh no, DATA GARBLED !! hee hee
  3:53pm JakeGould:

@RevTurnipDruid: I broke the 400 and then got an 800. And then when Atari was on the craphole as a company I scored an 800xl from Kay Bee Toys new for $75. Damned bargain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm Barrie_:

@Clay Missing Persons huh...excellent. They were a great underrated new-wave/pop band; Big Gary Numan influence there, which is fine by me.
  4:50pm Romeyn:

for pity sake mpre music and less talk! have mercy please!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:50pm common:

Avatar 4:57pm cosmic matrix:

Avatar 4:57pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Not a Rush fan but definitely not a knee-jerk hater. It just always puzzled me how midrange their production always sounded. Very limited and small, to these ears.
Avatar 4:57pm cosmic matrix:

Avatar 4:58pm βrian:

@RevTurnip: Sounds fine on my Close-N-Play.

Avatar 5:01pm Fredericks:

Hey, Clayton. Now you have some extra time, hope you find room for the parakeet training record.
  5:02pm aroundthe horn:

"Poker" needs to be covered by a metal band.
Avatar 5:07pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

First got Eldorado when it was a new release. I was perfect age to obsess over the creepy bits.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Gaylord Fields:

I'm singing, I'm singing! Now how do I stop my co-workers from staring — or get them to join in?
  5:07pm Dean:

Saw ELO three times. The opening bands: Widowmaker, Steve Hillage, Little Feat. No kidding.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:08pm common:

same here rev. but nothing scared me as much as fire on high from face the music.
Avatar 5:08pm Fredericks:

Synchronistically, I was actually reading about ELO as this song started playing, this album specifically. Wonderful occurrence.
  5:08pm JS:

Great annotations. Wish more DJs did that . . . I mean, why, otherwise, listen to x song for the nth time?
Avatar 5:09pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Dean: wasn't Widowmaker on the Hawkwind family tree? Huw Lloyd Langton's group or something? I could be imagining that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:10pm Uncle Michael:

I leave the room for one damned minute and what happens?

LAIBACH...that's what.
  5:10pm V Priceless:

@ Dean: you saw Ariel Bender? Very cool!
  5:11pm Dean:

You're correct, Rev. Also notable for the guitarist, Ariel Bender, Mott lineage.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Uncle Michael:

Who last played Widowmaker on FMU? I wonder...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Mutant:

I was talking to one of the guys from Laibach once about music. He said "If it is not rock music then it is crap!".
Avatar 5:12pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Common: I was at military school one year (1981), & they had a christian preacher guy come by and give us cadets the "devil in pop music" speech, complete with playing records backwards. FIRE ON HIGH was in the presentation (the church couldn't deal with backwards voices, evidently) -- loved that record ever since.
  5:12pm Dean:

Yes, VP, and at Universal Amphitheater *before* it was enclosed. To boot, I had the record and was as eager to hear them as ELO (none of whose records I had at the time).

Lemme guess, UM...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Greg from ZONE 5:

I LOVE that story, Rev.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Station Manger Ken has played "The Whistleblowers" by Laibach.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:13pm common:

ha! rev. music is reversable, time is not. turn back, turn back... my brother locked me in a closet and kept playing it. then he went all churchy. go figure.
Avatar 5:14pm Gabbroboccia:

Bowie and Eno? what a combination!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Uncle Michael:

Dean wins!
Avatar 5:15pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

@Zone5 Greg: "hotel california" was another one he used: a cautionary tale from the Eagles, who had sold their souls to THE BEAST. ... i mean, they stabbed it with their steely knives but they just couldn't kill it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm Greg from ZONE 5:

@dale: YUP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm common:

needed it, vp.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:26pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Man, on commercial talk radio they spend 10 mins screening you and then you get to say one thing before getting yelled at and hung up on. On The Dusty Failure you get a meaningful conversation AND a song request.
Avatar 5:27pm Linda Lee:

definitely still here, Rev. the nights up here in the mountains are gettin chilly though. & the leaves are turning fast. (100 miles north of JC)
  5:27pm Dean:

If in a make-believe world Wittgenstein had been asked whether or not he loved America, his answer wouldn't have sounded much different from the caller's.
  5:28pm JakeGould:

This old coot is making me think... What about young coots? Or are all young coos just turks and dudes?

I like the clapping. It's like part of your commentary.
Avatar 6:08pm Slick Goldtooth:

Did this tune for a high school talent show, if it wasn't for Oh Brother Where Art Thou recently coming out people would've been puzzled to be hearing this tune in a very New Jersey high school where nobody really listened to country and blue grass.

Then again I've heard NJ(Newark specifically) was a stop for big country western singers, or so my 99 y.o. Granny tells me
  6:09pm chris_in_space:

Sorry Clay, I love it when you clap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm Marcel M:

Yo Clay!! Wanna go see Thurston tonight? I have an extra ticket! Hang around.

Avatar 6:53pm cosmic matrix:

i used to pretty much only listen to this track on the record when i was a kid....it's a PERFECT FUCKING SONG.
Avatar 6:53pm Tusalava:

Sting is an AWFUL lot to deal with, but you're helping.

  6:53pm JakeGould:

Clay… This “Synchronicity II” banter… You’re pushing it.
  6:54pm JakeGould:

But Stewart Copeland’s drumming… Yes… Perfect!
  6:54pm Stanley:

"Sting - deal with it". Love you Clay!
Avatar 6:54pm cosmic matrix:

ok the song could be a little shorter.
  6:54pm Dean:

It was at a Police show at the Whisky on Sunset Blvd. when I realized I was bored with rock 'n' roll. They were dreadful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:54pm Kali G:

Every Thursday I miss my meditation session to be with Clay and his sound vibrations,... yep, that is enlightenment!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm Greg from ZONE 5:

Everything I hated about popular music when I was in college…somehow cool as long as Pidge is singing over it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:56pm melinda:

I understand the Sting-hate but I like the Police anyway.
  6:56pm Dean:

If the clock was ever running, it stopped at Roxanne o'clock.
  6:56pm Sarah:

Love you love the show Clay - thanks for getting me through the last three hours of work.
Avatar 6:57pm Tusalava:

The Police weren't a stopped clock at all.
Avatar 6:58pm cosmic matrix:

ah, finally you played a song that doesn't agree w/ me! although it's tasty with all the gates
Avatar 6:58pm Tusalava:

I loved the old albums, when they were snottier and Sting was less of a "star." They were pretty biting and funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm Kali G:

Remember this, Sinatra and Rod McKuen always equal Slipknot on the Dusty Show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:58pm chris:

without sting singing roxanne, we'd never have Eddie Murphy's cover of it in 48 hrs
  6:59pm JakeGould:

I used to really, really, really like “The Police” in JHS/HS in the early 1980s… But nowadays they can rub me the wrong way. They do come off like some rich white kids pretending to be punk/new wave at times.
Avatar 6:59pm Tusalava:
