Avatar 9:11am pierre:

Guys, has anybody seen The Residents live, and if yes, is it a good show ?
Avatar 9:12am pierre:

They play in Paris with "Shadowland" the last part of a trilogy that I havent heard much about, but I love the band, but the tickets are also pretty expensive, so I was hoping some of you might have some insights (?)
Swag For Life Member 9:13am Glenn M:

whats up joe
Avatar 9:13am Joe McG:

Hey, Glenn! More up than down, and that's a good thing. You?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:17am common:

pierre, my friend went to a residents show in philly a few years ago and said it was fantastic! i wanna see the documentary about them.
Avatar 9:18am Brian in UK:

Hey Joe. What's cookin'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18am Rich in Washington:

Pierre: I saw a fairly recent Residents show (WOW Tour) and really for only the fact that they don't get up my way often, I figured it might be my last chance to see them without hitting the road. I have to say I didn't find it that great, myself. I don't really dig where their live show is coming from - the Randy thing. I just don't get it. Sorry to say - I'm a huge Rez fan and have been for many decades.
Avatar 9:19am KP:

Hugoes there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19am Scott Williams:

@pierre, I've only seen them once, on the Demons Dance Alone tour (2002?). Very, uhh.... theatrical. Almost Broadway, a little corny. but a very immersive experience; maybe worth it because I love them too. Well, "Him", at this point. I wouldn't spend a lotta $$ on it tho.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20am sphere:

the bassist on this Montenegro track - could it be Carol Kaye?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21am sphere:

oh and morning :)
Avatar 9:24am pierre:

Thank you all for your advice ! They are playing the documentary, so there is that already.
And, I don't know, would 40$ represent a lot of money for it ? (regarding that it's more 80 since i would invite my girlfriend )
Avatar 9:24am Joe McG:

@sphere: Possible! It was recorded in Hollywood at RCA.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 9:29am Cecile:

Holaaaaa. I have to say both time I saw the Residents it was magical. But there was no "Randy". Just music. The first time it was with Snakefinger. Sigh. I don't think I need to see them again.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sounded like Django w/ an electric pickup ; I'd like to know more details about his precise relation to 'electric' guitar...

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31am Scott Williams:

drummer when I saw them was Toby Dammit, so there's your Residents/Stooges link. No Randy yet either; yeah he's pretty irritating. Just see the movie (I haven't yet). (and Thank you @Pierre!)

Avatar 10:33am Brian in UK:

Mick Houghton put together Forever Changing that is how he got the book gig. Interesting interviews with Holzman. His old man kept telling him he would never add up to anything. It took THe Doors to hit No.1 for him to believe that he knew which way was up.
  10:35am cheri:

hi joe, I got to tell you this next segment is really cool "the single file" i really enjoy it! thanks joe!
Avatar 10:36am Joe McG:

@Brian in UK: If you haven't read it, Jac Holzman's autobiography is also really great.

Avatar 10:40am Cecile:

I also liked the fact he was honest about his relationship with Love. He put out Forever Changes, and thought it was great art, but also told Arthur Lee that the difference between them and the Doors is that they could write three minute pop songs.
Avatar 10:40am Joe McG:

@Sean: I don't have any Sinead singles, unfortunately.
Avatar 10:41am Cecile:

Turns out Arthur Lee could write some great accessible pop songs (Black Beauty and Real to Reel) but by then the world wasn't listening. :(

joe, great single file picks
Avatar 10:46am Brian in UK:

Cecile this is what Holzman said on hearing of Arthur's demise. He had given me, Elektra, and music so much, and that he had chosen to live his life so carelessly was the ultimte sadness.
Avatar 10:47am Cecile:

That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Wow.

Listening to it, I figure the Upper Midwest accent also owes something to an Irish accent as well. And there is a Finnish magic spell on it! Also, some good fiddling. Can't wait to get to the rest.
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

Many thanks, Fernando!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am annie:

you still going to sit in on thursdays, joe?
Avatar 11:29am Joe McG:

@Cecile: We didn't get it yet here at FMU, but I hope we do!
Avatar 11:30am Cecile:

it is beautiful. A huge book, and a DVD. The discs fit in the book so you can keep it on a bookshelf.

This Goldberg is really nice. I've been seeing him on playlists that I tune in to late, nice to hear him finally.

Hey Joe!
Avatar 11:34am Brian in UK:

Got to walk the dawg. Bit early but have a great weekend everyone. Great show Joe. There is just a nip in the air the last two mornings so the weather is starting to turn and a few leaves are changing to autumnial colours. Love the smell of autumn in the evenings.
  11:34am Brendan:

Hi Joe and folks
Avatar 11:35am Joe McG:

Hey, Matt! Hey, Melinda! Hey, Brendan!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:36am Grouse:

What are you gonna do, Joe?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37am Mike East:

jesus...thought the smoke alarm was going off for a second there.
Great show this morning, Joe.
Avatar 11:41am Joe McG:

Thanks, Mike. Be safe in that firetrap.
Avatar 11:41am Tusalava:

Wonderful show this morning, Joe.

Which is good, because I don't think I have any way to make coffee.
Avatar 11:42am Joe McG:

Oh, no, sorry to hear that, Tusalava! I send you some mentally.
  11:44am Dean:

Heard Jimmy LaFave sing this JB tune a few weeks ago in Winters.
Avatar 11:44am KP:

Terry Melcher! Byrds related.
Avatar 11:46am Cecile:

Also managed Paul Revere and the Raiders. Doris Day is his mom. In the most sad part, Manson sent his troops to Melcher's house for rejecting his demos, but he'd since moved.
  11:47am Brian:

Dando Shaft...that's another LP I sold ;)
Avatar 11:47am KP:

Best version of "These Days" is Tammy Sue Starlight's impression of Nico's. I think Nico's might have been the first.
Avatar 11:47am Joe McG:

Doris sings on this with him.
Avatar 11:48am Cecile:

Sorry, produced Paul Revere and the Raiders.
Avatar 11:48am Joe McG:

@Brian: I wish you'd sold it to me! :)
  11:48am Dean:

I'm partial to Ian Matthews'.
  11:49am Brian:

Hey I'll give you first dibs next time Joe!
Avatar 11:49am Joe McG:

@Brian: Thanks, man!
Avatar 11:50am Tusalava:

Coffee happening.

Minneapolis, you have been spared.
  11:50am Brian:

How did anything get done before coffee was discovered?
Avatar 11:51am maja:

Love you

where are Season from?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Was reading National Geographic: From the beginning of the industrial age, there was caffeine heavily involved. It may be literally true the modern world could not be w/out coffee. Welcome to America...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54am KevinfromBayRidge:

Run over. "COFFEEEEEE" ( H2O also) now!
Avatar 11:55am Tusalava:

KevinfromBayRidge - I hope you aren't running from something.

You are in Florida, there are so many possibilities.
Avatar 11:55am Joe McG:

@Cecile: My guess is France or Belgium, but I'm not sure.

Avatar 11:56am Cecile:
