Listener comments!

  9:06pm Dean:

Hey Pat.
  9:07pm JakeGould:

Has anyone on WFMU ever played Bob James? That guy is smooth jazz personified.
  9:08pm MC B:

Yeah Pat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm spodiodi:

  9:12pm Dean:

I'm sitting alone in my kitchen wearing my prove it all night t shirt. Saturday night baby.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:14pm Pat Byrne:

DEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!!!!! (I need an adult)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...hear the influence on the doors here, & Them's 1st album stuff makes me think of the Two Morrisons meeting @ the Whiskey & L.A....Eric Burden one of the few people who could talk a little sense into Jimbo too...& now the Hollies peeping around - you rule...
  9:28pm cheri:

greetings and goodevening pat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Pat Byrne:

Thanks Rabbit! and hey to all!
  9:33pm JakeGould:

The difference between the Doors and Them? Whenever I listen to the Doors I can’t get rid of the image of Drunk Morrison singing like a drunk out of my head. Loved them in high school but as an adult I just can’t deal with “The Lizard King” anymore.
  9:35pm JakeGould:

This “Maura & Dana” is pretty great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- & what about when you drink?...oh - lotsa difference between them - just interesting to note the similarities - & Them being earlier...
  9:36pm JakeGould:

“Big Quiet” on Bandcamp: bigquiet.bandcamp.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm spodiodi:

It's almost like you have something against drunks, JakeGould.
  9:38pm JakeGould:

@RevolutionRabbitNov63: I don’t pretend to be some drunken poet magician. I mean Jim Morrison’s lyrics are just so bad. I tried to listen to “American Prayer” recently… Was so deep to me in high school… So cringeworthy now…
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah - he became a Rock Star & a Substance Abuser instead of developing the potential - realized & unrealized - that he really did have as Poet. Some of his lines were great. Every Poet is also unique. A great & influential Performer as well - & one of the best Rock Voices as a Singer...but nevermind...
  9:45pm JakeGould:

@RevolutionRabbitNov63: I will say this, I think Morrison’s persona/style worked well and were revolutionary for the 1960s but nowadays it doesn’t age well.
Avatar 9:45pm Todd-o-phonic:

Wow, such aggression! Do you need to talk to somebody?
  9:47pm JakeGould:

@Todd-o-phonic: Just my opinion on Jim Morrison. Note the praise of “Them.”
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...I think Joey shoulda stuck to eating sprouts...
Avatar 9:49pm Todd-o-phonic Todd:

@Jake: Sorry, I was talking about Pat!!!
  9:51pm JakeGould:

@Todd-o-phonic Todd: As Alf would say, “No problem!”
Avatar 9:51pm Todd-o-phonic:

@JakeGould: You are being too polite about Morrison!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:51pm mariano:

'Evening everyone.
Avatar 9:52pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

@Todd-o-Phonic lives to start trouble!
  9:58pm JakeGould:

@SissophonicCheryl: Todd and I have had a few odd snack-based interactions on the boards, but I genuinely respect him even if we have disagreements on what meals are/can/should be.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:58pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...sprouts!...& a beer...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:03pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Lynn Anderson died recently.
  10:06pm martp:

It was not too aggressive. I LIKED IT!
  10:09pm Listener Robert:

Land line is ALL I use. But at least as of a yr. ago it's fiber optic, instead of the lousy wire one I had, which for decades would go out whenever it rained enough.
Avatar 10:10pm Sissophonic Cheryl:

Why didn't you promote the @littlesteven guest appearance tonight on your Facebook page? You could be up to 10,005 likes, just like that!

...well if his Writes are as great as his Titles !...
  11:15pm JakeGould:

Kudos to any artist who doesn’t pigeonhole themselves.
Avatar 11:19pm BadGuyZero:

When I lived in Seattle there was a 70s arena rock cover band called 70 Proof. It contained members of The Presidents Of The United States Of America, Mudhoney, Young Fresh Fellows, Fastbacks, Supersuckers, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and others. Usually 15-20 guys were on hand for each show and would take turns trying to outplay each other. It was ridiculous and so much fun.
  11:20pm JakeGould:

Howard Stern has some heart and humanity to his schtick far more than everyone else who has followed in his footsteps.
  11:23pm JakeGould:

“What’s the deal with people who are not like Jerry Seinfeld?”
Avatar 11:24pm BadGuyZero:

That car reservation bit was in "The Alternate Side."
  11:26pm JakeGould:

@Pat: Dude, my quote is basically Seinfeld meta-refercing himself to Seinfeld because all of Seinfeld is basically, “What’s the deal with people who are=n’t me? They do things differently! Why is that? Why can’t they be me?”
Avatar 11:27pm BadGuyZero:

I'm going to start a Rod Stewart-themed podcast and call it a Rodcast.
Avatar 11:28pm BadGuyZero:

I'm going to start a heroin-themed podcast and call it a nodcast.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

My podcast will review different kinds of peas on a weekly basis.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm sugarwolf:

I'm going to start a podcast about a 70s British cartoon called Bodcast
  11:30pm JakeGould:

G-dcast (they omit the “o”) is: “Feel awkward about your Jewish knowledge? G-dcast has you covered. Videos, apps and interactive experiences for everyone.” www.g-dcast.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm ! I X Key !:

Fishin: codcast
  11:31pm JakeGould:

I’m going to start a gefilte fish review podcast called a “Codcast.”
Avatar 11:31pm BadGuyZero:

Start calling podcasts m-p-threecasts.
  11:31pm JakeGould:

G-dcast = GODCAST!!! A Jewish focused podcast about God.
Avatar 11:32pm BadGuyZero:

Is this Listener Robert?
  11:32pm Cooh John:

Bumcast--British podcast at the end of the schedule.
  11:33pm JakeGould:

Bumcast: Creepers and randos talk about butts.
Avatar 11:33pm BadGuyZero:

How 'bout subcast, since most people listen to them on the subway.
  11:34pm Cooh John:

Touche, JG
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Outcast: Listen to this when you're not in your house or apartment.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm ! I X Key !:

Why does it have to have to do with the word "cast?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

People listening to podcasts should be referred to as podcats.
  11:39pm JakeGould:

Podcast? How about: YAMMERJAM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39pm ! I X Key !:

What else do podcasts have to do with?
  11:40pm JakeGould:

How about a Padcast? A podcast about all kinds of pads: Knee pads, menstrual pads, hippie pads…
  11:40pm JakeGould:

Podcast: When aliens shed their pods and cast them into the ocean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:43pm sugarwolf:

Podcast about The Pod People and Trumpy
  11:43pm JakeGould:

How about: Pondercast?
  11:43pm Listener Robert:

Examples I can give of mainly-audio live programs that have simultaneous video streams:

Art Bell's "Midnight in the Desert" (Periscope for the video)

and

studio programs from WVOX
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Podcasts? That's an odd name. I'd have called them chazzwazzers.
  11:44pm JakeGould:

Nodcast: A podcast you listen to before going to sleep.
  11:45pm Listener Robert:

In-studio guests at WVOX often don't even know that camera in the corner isn't a security device, but streaming, even during ads & news. I think it's on WVOX.com .
  11:47pm Listener Robert:

The odd thing is that the studio-cam at WVOX also has its own microphone, so when the guests think they're "off", they're still on-mic. It's fainter, though.
  11:51pm JakeGould:

I can’t stand Car Talk!
  11:51pm Listener Robert:

Another way the audience can be primarily audio, though w some video audience too, is the station that took up the old NTSC channel 6 to get 87.8 (IIRC) MHz on the FM dial. They had to put out a token video signal to get the channel license. Usually just slides or unrelated programming to the audio, but sometimes a studio-cam.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Call them byrnies, after the radio personality who first came up with the idea of renaming podcasts to something else.
  11:52pm JakeGould:

Yammercasts?
  11:53pm JakeGould:

AUG151205: smvidaurri.tumblr.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm ! I X Key !:

How about a Power Sounder?
  11:54pm JakeGould:

SoundTalks?
  11:55pm Listener Robert:

Yeah, Ken from Hyde, I guess that's better'n "patties".
  11:56pm JakeGould:

How about just: Talkies?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am ! I X Key !:

What else does just "Casts" mean, other than the old-fashioned version? Remember when "drone" meant something else entirely?
