Hey, is anyone here going to see Total Control and Flesh World in Brooklyn this Saturday? I'm gonna be out that way - beersies?
Avatar 12:36pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Dickies = the second show a young Rev.TD ever saw. The old 9:30 club in DC. The performance of Hunchback destroyed the brains.
Avatar 12:38pm Chris from DC:

I probably saw that Dickies show, come to think of it.
Avatar 12:40pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Highlights were Hunchback & Banana Splits. Actually hell, the whole show was the highlight. Almost too far back to recall...
  12:40pm J-eff:

speaking of shows, Dying Fetus is playing at the Clash Bar in Clifton next week. Very cozy of a place
  12:41pm Dean:

Dickies played my buddy's record store years ago, but post-mortem Chuck Wagon.
Avatar 12:42pm MenfussMike:

best song off Killers.

Poll: first Maiden album or Killers?
Avatar 12:43pm Cecile:

I hope Scott Williams is listening. He gets misty about IM.
  12:44pm J-eff:

First maiden album, always. Although Ides of March is one of the greatest openings ever, and the title track is my favorite of their songs
Avatar 12:44pm MenfussMike:

me too. the very first time I smoked The Dope, was at IM. Piece of Mind tour. Saxon and Fastway opened
Avatar 12:45pm Cecile:

I don't like Bruce's singing a lot of the time, so the first one.
Avatar 12:45pm Cecile:

I'm really more of a Priest girl.
Avatar 12:46pm MenfussMike:

Well KILLERS was Dianno, but I prefer the first album. I prefer Priest over Maiden too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm mariano:

Trooper, Two Minutes to Midnight, Revelation, and Flight of Icarus are a permanent part of my workout music.
Avatar 12:47pm Chris from DC:

I have a soft spot for Run to the Hills.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm mariano:

Yeah, Run to the Hills too -- it's that galloping Phil Harris bass.
Avatar 12:48pm Cecile:

they should have greeting cards for the season of evil.
Avatar 12:49pm Cecile:

Run to the Hills is fun. It makes me chuckle.
Avatar 12:50pm Cheri Pi:

Is this the Doom band that covers the Misfits? LOL
  12:50pm J-eff:

Priest>Maiden
forever and always
Avatar 12:51pm Cecile:

although I gotta say I respect Maiden for not taking an unfortunate pop turn.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm common:

late to the rock
  12:52pm Claw!:

PRIEST 4 LYFE!
Avatar 12:54pm Chris from DC:

More a Priest fan too, though th'Maiden is fun.
  12:54pm Claw!:

I have no quarrel with Maiden. I dig em. But Priest is superior in every way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm common:

love 'em both
  12:55pm Dean:

Could be that Priest>Maiden, but Dungeons>Dragons.
Avatar 12:56pm Cecile:

This.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm mariano:

You know, Cecile, I did something like that for my 2011 holiday card...tinyurl.com...
Avatar 12:56pm Cheri Pi:

I like this Cult Leader, where can I join?
Avatar 12:57pm Chris from DC:

This is making me think a bit of Usnea. Nice.
  12:57pm Dean:

Why don't singers like this get hired to make mouthwash commercials?
Avatar 12:57pm Cecile:

aw marion, I can't get photobukkit at work.
Feel free to request my address thru my profile.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm mariano:

Claw!: I love them both too, but no way that Priest's bass player is better than Phil Harris!
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

YES!!!!!!!!!
Avatar 12:58pm Chris from DC:

Oh yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm mariano:

Will do, Cecile! Just clicked.
Avatar 12:58pm Cecile:

I have to agree, but Priest's groove is unstoppable.
Avatar 12:59pm Cecile:

can ya see it, can ya?
Avatar 12:59pm Cheri Pi:

WhoooooooooHHHHoooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Avatar 1:00pm MenfussMike:

Mariono: you mean Steve Harris.
Avatar 1:01pm Cecile:

Priest's guy drag is impeccable.
  1:01pm J-eff:

godofthedevilsgodofthedevils wont you help them pray?

love this tune, love this album. Wish Priest would keep some of their proggier roots. I still hope theyll release Mother Sun officially one day
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm mariano:

Derp!
Avatar 1:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Maiden has a guitarplayer named Dave w/ straight blond hair & a Strat w/ a humbucker. That strikes close to home...
- Some early Priest struck me w/ how fast it was how early. Are they generally credited w/ being Speed Metal pioneers? Who else might be?
...Oh: & I wear Halford style hats. Sue me.
Avatar 1:02pm Cecile:

J-eff, didn't you listen to that "epic" about Nostradamus about three albums back?
  1:02pm Claw!:

Priest has the BEST rhythm section in metal hands down.
Avatar 1:03pm Cecile:

Poly? Neurosis?
Avatar 1:03pm MenfussMike:

which rhythm section? Les Binks? Dave Holland? Scott Travis?
Avatar 1:04pm Cecile:

RevRab, they are credited for pretty much inventing metal as a concept separate from hard rock.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Stevel:

We used to listen to Priest, Scorpions, Maiden and--yes--Rush.
  1:04pm J-eff:

Cecile- i dont know if throwing in a bunch of orchestra necessarily makes it prog haha

Also you gotta love Priest for spawning so many band names and album titles.

Youre welcome Voivod!
Avatar 1:05pm Cecile:

yeah, but 10 minutes long and goofy subject matter might
Avatar 1:05pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@C'ec: right.
Avatar 1:06pm Cheri Pi:

I like both bands, I'm just a skosh more on Iron Maiden's side since they wrote a song celebrating True Yoopers called Trooper. The lyrics read like a love letter to da UP.
Avatar 1:06pm Cecile:

hahahahha Pi.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm mariano:

Rabbit: I think Maiden pioneered that chugga-chugga guitar/bass riffing that became such a bit part of thrash/speed metal, largely due to Steve (not Phil!) Harris's galloping bass style. You can really hear it on The Trooper.
Avatar 1:07pm Tidepoolbay:

Diane, Mookie & I love you!
Avatar 1:07pm Cheri Pi:

Loosely based on the events of the Toledo war except Muley became a horse, but whatever
  1:07pm Claw!:

It doesn't matter. As Cecile stated earlier - their groove is unstoppable. They just have that swagger that no other band has *quite* been able to duplicate. (this is all just my opinion, though, obviously)
Avatar 1:08pm MenfussMike:

i drank a few Trooper beers on my trip to Sarasota, FL last week
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm mariano:

Avatar 1:09pm Cheri Pi:

Good on you MenfussMike
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm mariano:

Claw! -- right, only one way to settle this: a dance-off.
Avatar 1:10pm Cecile:

Poly, I just saw that. I emailed a couple of friends. Hopefully they'll be into it.
Avatar 1:10pm Cecile:

A headbang off. The person with the least permanent neck damage after an hour wins
  1:11pm J-eff:

Priest had some of that galloping chuggy stuff, like in Savage for instance. But Maiden def made that their thing for sure with the twin leads.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm mariano:

My neck hurts already!
Avatar 1:12pm Cecile:

Priest started it, Maiden took it in a successful different direction.
  1:12pm V Priceless:

Woo! Great Alice!!
  1:14pm J-eff:

those first 2 Cooper albums are so awesome, shame he didnt stick with it. Funny how Zappa stated he didnt "get" Alice Cooper. You gotta be weird if Zappa thinks youre weird
Avatar 1:16pm MenfussMike:

the only thing Zappa got was Zappa
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm mariano:

Apparently Mae West saw an Alice Cooper show towards the end of her life and she really enjoyed it, said it was a lot like the burlesque spectacles of her youth.
Avatar 1:17pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

HA! [m.mike]
Avatar 1:18pm Cecile:

good for mae. She didn't whitewash the past like a lot of her peers did.
Avatar 1:19pm Cheri Pi:

how long can he gargle???
Avatar 1:20pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

...only his hairdresser knows for sure.
Avatar 1:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Zappa was about 'Louie Louie' & fart jokes more as ironic satire & contrast - & Alice actually identified w/ the troubled adolescent & was right there in it w/ 'em - they buttered his bread. So to speak? Maybe.
They always say the old ShowBiz people 'got' Alice...
Avatar 1:20pm Cheri Pi:

Avatar 1:23pm MenfussMike:

I was at the Dali museum in St. Petersburg and they had the Alice Cooper rotating hologram there. Pretty cool.
Avatar 1:23pm Cheri Pi:

Fadades borrowed some of his game from th'Normal
Avatar 1:23pm Cecile:

I actually had a couple of cartoon characters dancing to this in a strip no one will ever see the other day.
Avatar 1:23pm hambone:

Avatar 1:23pm Claw!:

My neck hurt for three days after I saw King Diamond.
Avatar 1:24pm Cecile:

I've been digging it since the early 80s and it still sounds great everytime.
Avatar 1:24pm MenfussMike:

My mouth hurt for 3 days from laughing after I saw King Diamond
Avatar 1:24pm V Priceless:

Apparently, David Briggs hated Alice's music and the group - he must have had a ball producing their 2nd album...haha...still a great record, no thanks to him.

Love those first two Mercyful Fate albums. I even got one taken up by my teacher in 8th grade. Religion class no less
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

I've started and put down so many Ballard books. I did finish empire of the sun.

Hambone - go to youtube forthwith!
Avatar 1:27pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Funny thing: I made a mix-tape about 20 years ago that followed Warm Leatherette with Death Warmed Up by High Tide, & to this day, brain expects to hear that tune explode after The Normal... makes one hell of a weird segue..
Avatar 1:27pm Cecile:

these guys are better in dub
Avatar 1:28pm Rev. Turnip Druid:

Cecile: I'm a huge fan of Ballard, but if the early apocalypse stuff doesn't work on you, I'd suggest The Unlimited Dream Company -- it's got the weird human-nature quotient, but is beautiful in places, as well. Very mature & balanced work. Or so I thought.
Avatar 1:29pm Cecile:

his interviews are amazing. I will try that one, Rev.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm chris:

omfg, Ken, Mary did an entire set of Warm Leatherette covers.... thank you, thank you, thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Stevel:

Yay, Ken. Eleven versions! Yay Mary Wing as well.
Avatar 1:33pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:
