ALL of my tomatoes. I'm sharing ALL of them. ALL of the unripened green cherry tomatoes. ALL OF THEM!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Amanda:

On a cheerier note, hello everyone & nice to see you here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm listener james from westwood:

Delightful Kazi track!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Matt F:

Oh yeah!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm listener james from westwood:

True weird story: In 3rd grade, the music teacher took some sort of shine to (a) this song and (b) one of the students, which culminated in a school assembly in which said student, dressed as King Tut, was wheeled by the music teacher into the gym on an Egypt-decorated ... thing of some sort (the rack we stored folding chairs on w/ some cardboard to make it look like a boat?) with this song playing. The guy then conducted a mock interview about Tut with the lad. Also, a bunch of K-5th graders were implicitly introduced to the word "honky."

In summary, the 70s were a time of many contrasts.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Amanda:

WOW to that story. AMAZING!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:32pm listener james from westwood:

I really wish I'd been with it enough to document those years. Grade school in the 70s was comparatively batshit in a number of ways.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:39pm Amanda:

As well, a certain type of 70s cool dad or cool teacher REALLY latched onto Steve Martin's whole thing, in a big way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Stevel:

This Rainer Maria is right in Amanda's range, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm sugarwolf:

I'm going swimming after this show. I'm in my bathing suit now! it's just too hot for clothes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Amanda:

Great call @sugarwolf. I was swimming yesterday in the middle of my workday. Recommended.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Uncle Michael:

I'm glad I'm not the only one that plays EC.
Avatar 12:46pm ndbob:

Quite a story there James
Avatar 12:47pm Kurt Gottschalk:

i'd forgotten how good this elvis song is. i was just talking to a friend last night about how i don't revisit his records enough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Amanda:

Sorry if this song bums everyone out, I just think it's so beayootiful
Avatar 12:48pm Kurt Gottschalk:

not being bummed out makes me uncomfortable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Amanda:

Glad you appreesh, Kurt and UM! Kurt, you are right, this album and a lot of the mid-late 80s ones are super-worth-revisiting
Avatar 12:49pm Kurt Gottschalk:

haha, since i don't actually do so, i'm right and wrong at the same time.
Avatar 12:49pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- he's singing his lungs out here real good & emoting - not just audibly Writing (real smart-like)...
Avatar 12:53pm Roberto:

Got my Squeaky Feelings shipment last week. So far the kids are amused. This one is definitely going in the car on the next road trip.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:53pm Rich in Washington:

what happened to the New Bomb Turks?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:54pm Uncle Michael:

They got put on the no-fly list.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Dandelions: The breakfast of champions!
  12:56pm P-90:

Lovely show, but now I''m craving a nice salad of field greens and yellow daisies, for some reason...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:56pm Rich in Washington:

last time I saw them had to be 20 years ago, on some tour supporting a crap Green Day-of-the-week band, sponsored by a local radio station that would never in a 100 years play New Bomb Turks - along with Rev. Horton Heat, Lunachicks, a few more bands. It was really apparent that many of the bands hated one another.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Matt F:

Nice! Hey, maybe you know already but that Plimsouls track earlier in the set is an Easybeats cover. Or maybe a cover of a song that the Easybeats covered. Stop playing good records so I can leave the house, please.
  12:59pm P-90:

And yeah, I should stop thinking about revisiting Elvis's eighties output and just do it already.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Amanda:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Matt F:

"Hush now, don't mansplain..."
  1:03pm P-90:

"...crap Green-Day-of-the-week band" -Ha ha Hee hee Ho ho!
  1:06pm MONEYBAG$:

That RM album came out in 2001, not mansplaining
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm Amanda:

Aha. I knew it was around then, MB$, thanks! A godsend during that weird time of top 40 rock being horrible
  1:11pm MONEYBAG$:

That album made me like them, which was funny because it seemed like their older fans hated it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm sugarwolf:

mansplaining or MATTSPLAINING?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Amanda:

He is going to leave the house now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:18pm listener james from westwood:

Tomorrow he'll get on Fabio's playlist and start Cansplaining.
Avatar 1:19pm northguineahills:

I never realized how good that Ween album was.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm listener james from westwood:

Doesn't Troy pass a poster for the "Barney Miller" spinoff, "Fish"? Nod to his proclivity?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm listener james from westwood:

PS. I actually watched "Fish." I watched a lot of crap as a kid.
Avatar 1:24pm northguineahills:

"Hey Big Daddy, there's real Daddy!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm listener james from westwood:

"I's best to run!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm listener james from westwood:

Holy jumping Christ, the 70s and its variety shows. I also watched many, many of these.
  1:29pm MONEYBAG$:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm listener james from westwood:

Those early ones were like Nixon puked into a camera.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm sugarwolf:

Replacing Lisa is of course a reference to the Brady Bunch variety show.

not to Simpsonsplain or anything
Avatar 1:31pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Avatar 1:31pm steve:

i agree, Love Matic Grandpa is the best
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm sugarwolf:

I found out a Sonny and Cher Christmas special with Bernadette Peters and Shield and Yarnell aired the night before I was born.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm sugarwolf:

if you like, well maybe not .... like.... 70s variety shows you have to check out Redundant Variety Hour blog.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm listener james from westwood:

Because Bobby Vinton had a variety show in that era that I watched, I named a stuffed rabbit my uncle won me at a fair Bobby Vinton.

I don't know who was more warped by that era, me or the King Tut kid.
Avatar 1:35pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...not blue velvet I presume...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm listener james from westwood:

Holy Chrimbus, sugarwolf, that will be a flashback-o-rama!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm sugarwolf:

@listener james: you can sum up most of the posts with THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENED
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm listener james from westwood:

I can only imagine it has that nadir, that dark 9th-circle of 70s-special hell, the Star Wars Holiday Special.
Avatar 1:40pm bpd:

I remember that compilation album that had the Andrews Sisters on it. They'd advertise it during syndicated sitcom reruns, and the VO guy shouted "It's V-E Day!" like a seven year old kid in the 80s knew what the hell that was...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm sugarwolf:

my favorite variety clips are the European TV ones because they are an extra level of WHAAAAAAAT
  1:42pm MONEYBAG$:

Micky kind of owns that album with the Moog synth though...
Avatar 1:43pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

I says again: a key L.A. Psych60s track.
  1:43pm MONEYBAG$:

hands down the best LP I bought at a garage sale when I was 6
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Amanda:

Yes -- even though he doesn't sing as much, he does influence the sound of the album elsewhere
Avatar 1:44pm steve:

the Moog (it was all an early Moog right?) playing is so good!
  1:46pm MONEYBAG$:

One of the first Moogs ever, in fact.
Avatar 1:46pm northguineahills:

Thanks for introducing me to Micky Dolenz's solo career.
Avatar 1:48pm steve:

nice... www.monkeesconcerts.com...
Avatar 1:50pm steve:

i actually got to play one of these early Moog semi-modulars at my old job... it was the most beautiful looking thing, best part was it didn't have LEDs but big red LAMPS all over it blinking away
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Due to reasons beyond my control, I am currently unable to listen to the stream. I see talk about the Monkees and now the theme from their TV show is playing in my head.
  1:51pm MONEYBAG$:

there's a great photo of him playing the synth with his cat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Amanda:

Ah, I just remembered what Troy McClure says. It's "SPINOFF! Is there any word more soothing to the human soul?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Amanda:

LOL, @bpd I'm so glad I didn't just imagine that V-E Day commercial.
Avatar 1:55pm northguineahills:

Thanks Amanda. Another fine afternoon of tunes for us loons.
Avatar 1:56pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- yeah !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:59pm listener james from westwood:

Killer diller show, Amanda; thanks!!
Avatar 1:59pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Who's up for going swimming now? (I am, but can't.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Amanda:

Can't swim, can't listen to the stream... Sigh...

Goodbye for now, everyone! Thank you so much for tuning in today.
