Listener comments!

  10:24am P-90:

Can this be for real? Say it ain't so, Al Jean...

[Homer will be dating new character voiced by Lena Dunham]?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55am Amanda:

Hey P-90! They've split up many times before and gotten divorced at least once. Homer even married a cocktail waitress in Vegas that time. So I'm sure this is just another rough patch they can weather.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am listener james from westwood:

@P-90: Reminds me of that "We Didn't Start the Fire" roundelay of various plot ideas they did after one episode. Does Marge become a robot? Does Moe get a cellphone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm listener james from westwood:

Unrelated: I suspect I'll be envying those dogs tomorrow when it hits 90!
  12:03pm KP:

It's so nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Jeff Golick:

This is loverly.
Avatar 12:06pm KP:

Even nicer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Amanda:

It's true though! It IS nice to be with you listeners.
  12:06pm P-90:

Sounds like an extended "arc" of shows that will afford a chance to explore stuff they haven't done yet- if it's time to jump the shark, they're gonna do it with style; intended to be the strong "refresh" a show needs periodically, when it runs for decades and decades...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:09pm listener james from westwood:

An arc would be ballsy, but hell, the show's been on for this long; why not experiment?
Avatar 12:09pm KP:

"So Nice" could be your "Elusive Butterfly."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm BLCKDGRD:

If you're choosing between Dancing in the Moonlight or Brandy please make it Dancing in the Moonlight.
Avatar 12:15pm Hoboken Jack:

At cocktail parties, I wonder how often Hadley Murrell steers the conversation to the best Arizona garage bands of 1967-70.
  12:16pm P-90:

@James: exactly, I think that's what they have in mind. May also shift story focus away from Harry Shearer-voiced characters if they still haven't settled things up with him. I call it an "arc" because it will almost certainly be a multi-episode thing, they've signed Lena Dunham, they have a chance to build a new character with her that goes beyond a one-episode appearance and story.
Avatar 12:16pm Danne D:

Yay Amnazz :)
Hiya folks :)
  12:17pm P-90:

Hi Danne
Avatar 12:18pm KP:

All right!

Avatar 12:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...@ my age, a 'leather-chested gal' is maybe not somethin' ya wanna know about...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Jeff Golick:

Stay away from redheads? I've been advocating that for years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Amanda:

Great advice!
Avatar 12:27pm KP:

The Nez!
Avatar 12:32pm bpd:

If you haven't heard The Nez on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast it is 100% worth your time.
Avatar 12:33pm ndbob:

afternoon Amanda and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Amanda:

Afternoon ndbob and everyone!

bpd, I still haven't caught that and I need to. Since Gilbert Gottfried interviewed Mike Reiss I have been deeply appreciative of his show.
  12:41pm Sean:

Small world, I too was in Ohio over the weekend.
Avatar 12:42pm KP:

Thanks bpd!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm efd:

Oh my goodness, I love this Blue Swede song! So much more to them than "Ooga chaka!"
Avatar 12:43pm KP:

Blue Swede. wowish
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Amanda:

@efd - ha, I realize now it's right in your wheelhouse!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Jeff Golick:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

Is this where I tell you one of the guys in Piper is from here?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm efd:

As is Piper, natch!
Avatar 12:49pm KP:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Amanda:

That song had more verses than I remember it having!
  12:50pm Sean:

The "Elvis needs boats" line is just so damn funny to me.
Avatar 12:50pm Roberto:

Yo Elvis, get out of my mom!
  12:51pm Dean:

Ken played some piper earlier today: http://blogfiles.wfmu.org/KF/2008/10/08/bagpipe.jpg
Avatar 12:51pm Hoboken Jack:

Retroactively offensive Michael J. Fox reference!
  12:51pm MONEYBAG$:

Bob Brainen recently played outtakes of Elvis singing about yoga, it blew my mind
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Amanda:

I heard that too!!!!!
Avatar 12:56pm KP:

Good pipes on Piper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Artie Haywire:

  12:58pm P-90:

I LOVED that Elvis/yoga stuff! It must be pretty rare, I've never heard it before, anywhere, I would def remember if I had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Amanda:

@Uncle Michael, that is a surprise, I'd have thought they were all from Boston.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Uncle Michael:

When Piper was an active, recording band, weren't they in New York?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:02pm Uncle Michael:

Yoga Is As Yoga Does is from the cinematic epic, Easy Come, Easy Go.
  1:08pm P-90:

Thanks, Pufnstuf Dude!
Avatar 1:11pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...well...it's good to see Black & White all smiles in a pool together *somewhere*...
Elvis was in great voice on that.
Avatar 1:12pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...too damn much downbeat for digitial...
Avatar 1:14pm KP:

Listening via iPhone plugged into table radio (just moving to New York was not enough), commenting on laptop, watching Yankees on big screen. You have my full attention, Amanda
  1:18pm P-90:

"Easy Come..." I see that was the one with Pat (Marilyn Munster) Priest --and Elsa (Bride of Frankenstein!) Lanchester, I'll check it out.
Avatar 1:20pm KP:

That last song by Totally Mild was pretty cool
  1:20pm P-90:

Flaming Moe's! One of my all-time personal faves!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm listener james from westwood:

another good-pose example: Homer's sugar rant.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:24pm listener james from westwood:

YES! I still use that Moe line.
Avatar 1:28pm Roberto:

We purchased a venus flytrap plant. We're planning on naming it Boo-urns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Jeff Golick:

I'll just leave this here: www.facebook.com...
[Halloween 2011]
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Ken From Hyde Park:

The episode was the first to include a band as guest stars: Aerosmith.
Avatar 1:30pm jay c:

the picture of the bostons in the pool is as great as todays show, happy wednesday!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm listener james from westwood:

OMFG Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Jeff Golick:

The Joe Perry Project played my high school. That had to have been a low point.
  1:34pm MONEYBAG$:

so this painter came over to give me an estimate on some work, and says "hey, you look like a music fan. I'm going to see Stevie Tyler tomorrow night" I said "there's an Aerosmith concert...?" And he replied "nah, he's in my AA group!"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Amanda:

Yes! The sugar speech was also animated by Silverman.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm listener james from westwood:

But that Aerosmith record wasn't a Delicious Vinyl release!!

I'll see myself out.
  1:38pm Dean:

So much for anonymity.
Avatar 1:40pm KP:

You should next try a duet with Porter.
  1:40pm MONEYBAG$:

well, there is a postscript to that story...I never heard back from the guy because he DIED the next day. read into that however you want.
Avatar 1:41pm steve:

another great Simpsons Time! the amount of nuance they packed into Hugh Jass' 10-15 seconds of screen time still blows my mind.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm Amanda:

@jay c, thanks for ID'ing the Bostons - an unintentional tie-in with Aerosmith and Billy Squier today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm KevinfromBayRidge:

Hello Amanda & Nazariots. Listening in the backyard on this fine Brooklyn afternoon. Tanks for the lovely soundtrack.
  1:50pm P-90:

@Jeff Golick: I caught Joe Perry Project at the Bottom Line, it was very memorable show, I enjoyed it as much as any Aerosmith show. But that's me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Amanda:

OK, THIS is the last song.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm listener james from westwood:

Must head over to my dad's to install an air conditioner or herniate myself trying.
Thanks most kindly, Amanda! Next Flaming Homer's on me!
Avatar 1:55pm ndbob:

excellent show Amanda!
Avatar 1:56pm KP:

Super show, Amanda. That Randy Newman was a high note, as was your Piper!
  1:57pm P-90:

Excellent show, as always!
Avatar 1:58pm Danne D:

thanks for another great show Amanda :)
Happy Wednesday everyone :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:01pm Amanda:

Piper's opening the show next time, so get your power-pop wigs screwed on tight. Thanks so much for listening, all! Sorry I couldn't respond to everyone, but I will enjoy going through the comments this eve! xoxoxox
  2:02pm P-90:

BTW, next time you see/hear the "Flaming Moe's" Cheers opening credits parody, check out what an utterly astute Paul Simon impression the vocal is.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Jeff Golick:

Thanks, Amanda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Jeff Golick:

@P-90: I think it was the sheer fact that Perry was in my high school that colored the experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm Ken From Hyde Park:

According to my readings today, Hank Azaria flew to Boston to help Aerosmith record their lines. The ending theme song for the episode is a short version of "Young Lust" they recorded specifically for the show. Also, the pickled eggs bit was something the band requested.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm Amanda:

All true.
Also, important: Music + lyrics to the Flaming Moe's song were written by Jeff Martin.
