Ya baby, swingin' beat.
Avatar 3:03pm Claw!:

Detached Millenial here!
Avatar 3:03pm V Priceless:

Let there be Irwin!
  3:05pm phat:

Holy cow. I haven't been able to listen to your show in ages, because of work. New job = WFMU in the day.
  3:05pm Listener Robert:

Irwin, watch out -- there's someone belching with your mike open.
  3:06pm Ryab:

Tame Impala <3
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm Carmichael:

I had a '65 Impala for a while. Really nice car.
  3:11pm Brendan:

Would a non -feral tame impala be suitable in the living room?
  3:12pm Laura L:

Thank goodness for modern technology--it's so much easier to listen to radio today than in the old days when radio had to be printed and bound.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Know not this U.S. of A. tune - has guitars!...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Stevel:

My kid got a hold of my radio once and scribbled all over it. Hard as hell to hear anything on it after that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm Irwin:

RR63: Demo, from the Sundazed bonus track ed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm Andrew Waterloo:

Remember when the ink would fade and everything sounded white?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- Ta.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:21pm Polyus:

That Wire song had the feel of a band sounding like other bands that it influenced in the first place. If that makes sense.
  3:22pm combokid:

That actually does make sense
  3:22pm combokid:

It's like when de Kooning started painting de Koonings.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Polyus:

Downtown Minneapolis isn't really much of a view.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:27pm Irwin:

It looks great from Duluth.
  3:29pm Tony Seymour:

The more I listen to WFMU, the more normal i think i am and i am not as far gone as i previously thought. Still tripping on Waterfall Person as a name.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:30pm Irwin:

HELLO, TONY! (Oops, sorry to yell.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:31pm Mike East:

hey what about generation Y? have they decided to just group them in with the millennials and gen x'ers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Irwin:

Fuck Y.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32pm Irwin:

Get ready -- here it comes!
  3:33pm Tony Seymour:

Hey i am FAR away......AND hard of hearing....yelling is fine in that regard.......YO IRWIN!!!
  3:33pm Dean:

Then there's Generation U.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Irwin:

I love U.
Avatar 3:34pm V Priceless:

nice Gong cut, Irwin - thanx!
  3:34pm MONEYBAG$:

RIP Pablow
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm Stevel:

Irwin is a cruel, cruel person.
  3:35pm Steve Albini:

"Music has entered the environment as an atmospheric element, like the wind, and in that capacity should not be subject to control and compensation. Well, not unless the rights holders are willing to let me turn the tables on it. If you think my listening is worth something, OK then, so do I. Play a Phil Collins song while I’m grocery shopping? Pay me $20. Def Leppard? Make it $100. Miley Cyrus? They don’t print money big enough."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:35pm nickybones:

Voice so scratchy! Guess Party in the USA was a long time ago already...
Avatar 3:36pm Harry Skyr:

OMG, listen to this instead: Miley - (lingual mix) - No Sleep Tonight - Feat. Bunnie Rabbit - & 7ophrenica
Avatar 3:36pm Mr. Lowry:

Up until now, I could honestly and proudly say I've never heard Miley Cyrus.
Avatar 3:36pm V Priceless:

that's potentially deadly stuff, that thar blowfish.
  3:37pm MONEYBAG$:

This could be the Rocky Raccoon of Miley's white album
Avatar 3:38pm WaveyDavey:

Oh dear! The unholy union of a seahorse and a blow fish.
  3:38pm Listener Robert:

The pancreas DOES NOT secrete anything to neutralize stomach acid! That comes from the organ with the greater distinction, the liver.
Avatar 3:39pm V Priceless:

woo! Free Design!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm Webhamster Henry:

"We did it the last time - but it didn't work"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:39pm rrg:

I like this show.
  3:40pm Listener Robert:

In fact, if the alkali in gall back up into the pancreas, that's a serious, even life-threatening, not to mention painful, condition.
Avatar 3:41pm Claw!:

Weird Al did the best song about the pancreas.
  3:42pm Listener Robert:

I bet Weird Al got the details right. He usu. does.
Avatar 3:43pm Claw!:

He did.
He is perfect.
Avatar 3:43pm CDToaster:

Can anyone tell my why "Tailor Man" (track 3 on Irwin's playlist) is NOT on my 10 track USofA CD? Perhaps it has been reissued with a bonus track? Sorry, I missed Irwin's back announcement.
  3:49pm Listener Robert:

I disagree w Weird Al about the Oxford comma, though you'll notice he never said it was incorrect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm Irwin:

CDT: See comment above.
Avatar 3:51pm V Priceless:

'ol two eye...er..blue eyes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:52pm Irwin:

I miss Matt from Springfield.
Avatar 3:53pm Claw!:

I am with you, Robert. I choose not to "leave off that Oxford comma" myself.
  3:53pm phat:

I liked the Miley track. A lot.
Avatar 3:55pm CDToaster:

Ah, I see; thanks Irwin...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm Webhamster Henry:

For a second I thought this was Brute Force.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm rrg:

I think that might actually be spelled "WeAreTheYouth".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58pm rrg:

We all have our affectations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Irwin:

You are correct, rrg, but I hate it that way so I "fixed" it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm rrg:

I'm on your side.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59pm Ike:

As I no longer live in NJ, I am now legally permitted to say that Frank Sinatra is a wanker and his voice sounds like smooth, processed horse baloney. With those gross little olive slices in it.

But Electric Youth and Silver Apples are great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00pm chris:

Aging X-er in da hizoussse!

mmmm, horse baloney....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm Carmichael:

Sinatra = pimento loaf?
  4:02pm JakeGould:

Sinatra is great. Without him what would we have crooner-wise? Bing Crosby? Mel Torme? Those just sound like mothballs. Frank Sinatra is class.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm rrg:

Hey! Mel is okay too.
Avatar 4:03pm V Priceless:

olive loaf, I think Ike means. I actually like olive loaf, myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm chris:

don't forget Sammy D Jr, that cat was outtasight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03pm Carmichael:

Al Martino never got the recognition he deserved.
  4:03pm JakeGould:

Screw Mel Torme.
  4:04pm Listener Robert:

I see Jake agrees w me about Crosby. Sinatra is to Crosby as music is to sound effects.
  4:04pm JakeGould:

I like Sammy Davis Jr. But without Frank Sinatra nobody would know or care about Sammy Davis Jr. on account of the racism. You like Sammy Davis Jr.? You need to respect Sinatra.
Avatar 4:04pm Jeff:

Because velvet is just the wrong thing to make fog out of?
Avatar 4:04pm Claw!:

V, we all know your favorite Loaf is Meat.
  4:05pm JakeGould:

Nay… Fuck Mel Torme. If you see that scrawled in a bathroom in NYC/NJ you know I was there.
  4:05pm spodiodi:

Olive loaf ain't got nuthin' on Pickle and Pimento loaf.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm common:

i can't look for jobs anym0re. beer and this now.
  4:05pm Listener Robert:

I'm always cautious about "if not for" statements, because we don't know if Sammy Davis would've found another champion.
Avatar 4:06pm V Priceless:

Nah..I dig his daughter, Olive...you should know that by now, Claw!
  4:07pm Listener Robert:

I'm not a Torme fan, but he's still better than Crosby.
  4:08pm Listener Robert:

If you want to hear Bing Crosby, fill Mel Torme's mouth w cotton before having him sing.
  4:10pm spodiodi:

Think I remember the last time this was played...
  4:11pm spodiodi:

She ends up going to his funeral, eh?
  4:12pm Jack:

In Iceland, it's no longer legal to kill Basques on sight. They just revoked a 400 year old law.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13pm Webhamster Henry:

I always though Crosby was uninteresting until I heard his really early recordings, where the crooning was a real innovation. He coasted on that for decades. That and Orange Juice commercials.
  4:16pm JakeGould:

“In Iceland, it's no longer legal to kill Basques on sight.” Thanks Debbie Downer. :/
  4:19pm Neg-guh-tor:

Oh, I love Joe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm common:

love the laughing.
  4:30pm Neg-guh-tor:

I want all of these in any media form. WFMU at an apex. All possibilities of radio seemed opened up to me. Back then, it ALL seemed mysterious and new, especially Mr. Frank's hour which I never missed. I shoulda recorded them. You had Muriel's Treasure hour at the end of your show.
  4:38pm Listener Robert:

If you listen enough to Antique Phonograph or Rich Conaty, I think you'll find even that's not true, Henry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Wait...go back. What size shirt?
  4:39pm Listener Robert:

What characterizes crooning? Breathiness?
  4:40pm Neg-guh-tor:

  4:41pm Neg-guh-tor:

Now I just need $100.
  4:41pm Listener Robert:

Breathiness in sprechstimme with alternating clipped & elongated phrasing?
  4:50pm marc:

This is excellent. Addicting
  4:57pm comatosefratguy:

That was a funny joe frank episode. Thanks Irwin!
Avatar 5:04pm V Priceless:

Herb Alpert rules!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:11pm Irwin:

Donald Byrd on trumpet on this Mobley tune.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:14pm Lewis:

excellent rhythms - reminiscent of ska…? don drummond maybe…
Avatar 5:21pm laughingacademy:

Still tripping about the fact that Boyce and Hart wrote the line "Here we come, walking down the street..." while they were walking down the street from their house to a park.
Avatar 5:21pm MikeY:

Avatar 5:23pm MikeY:

Avatar 5:24pm MikeY:

JUST KIDDING she will be missed at my house
Avatar 5:25pm MikeY:

Whos the drummer
Avatar 5:26pm MikeY:

Back to the lawn Great show as always Irwin.
  5:31pm Emily:

Your show is saving my afternoon. Thanks for that. Much appreciated.
  5:32pm Laura L:

Nice song, this one--is whole album good, Irwin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:32pm Irwin:

Emily: Would it otherwise have been a disaster or merely a disappointment?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:33pm common:

thank you irwin
  5:34pm Emily:

Disaster for others. I would have made it so if this lovely music wasn't improving my mood. You're a hero.
Avatar 5:37pm MikeY:

Is there way to see Sex in Broadcasting in the Albany NY?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40pm Irwin:

Dunno, MikeY - keep checking wfmu.org for future screenings.
  5:41pm Fredericks:

Irwin, my research says that was Freddie Hubbard playing trumpet on that Mobley tune.
Avatar 5:41pm MikeY:

Will it ever be out on DVD ? I think it was playing at a fet in Montreal but I missed it by a day or two
  5:42pm Fredericks:

Great tune whomever is on trumpet.
Avatar 5:43pm MikeY:

Now Jeff Lynne Gets better with age. NEVER FORGET ELO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:43pm Irwin:

Fredericks: I stand corrected. Byrd is on that album but not on that track. It is Hubbard.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:44pm common:

shall never forget elo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:45pm Irwin:

I love Miles, but Morgan, Hubbard and Byrd during the hard bop years are supreme.
  5:47pm Fredericks:

Always Freddie was pretty great. That is until I heard his version of "Feelings." Really sad.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:49pm Irwin:

Morgan's death was tragic and premature, but I wonder where he would have ventured musically during the disco era?
  5:49pm Fredericks:

"Always thought Freddie was pretty great."
  5:49pm Tony Seymour:

The jam!
  5:50pm Fredericks:

Maybe he would have moved in a World music direction.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Irwin:

This is mind-boggling.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:56pm Kat in Chicago:

This cover of "Reach Out" just keeps getting better
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm Mike East:

I agree with Kat
  5:58pm Laura L:

My mind is boggled now too. Thank you, Irwin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:59pm chris:

thanks for all the boggling, Irwin!
