Hiya Diane, is it too early to celebrate the fact that there is a bona-fide Neurosis tour happening this summer? Who'da thunk?

Hey All! Yes, I am psyched that the heavy hitters of Thursday have remained through September!! Today at 1pm I have RON "u-Ron Bondage" BOND of Houston's Really Red on! Very Excited!!! Post questions if you've got 'em, he'll be live!
Avatar 12:10pm prof.fuzz:

it's midnight in taiwan and i'm tuned in for u-ron.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm chris:

hello good peoples
Avatar 12:12pm Claw!:

Yo, chris!
  12:40pm Listener Robert:

Jello Biafra is a great guest generally to listen to on radio, so it's not surprising he'd consider his time valuable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Rich in Washington:

a friend recently spotted Jello and nearly bodily dragged him into KBOO studios and he gave a pretty good, albeit cranky interview during some hapless DJ's show (they guy who happened to be on the air at the time).
He was in Portland shooting his Portlandia episode.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Rich in Washington:

  12:44pm Listener Robert:

That's what makes his interviews fun -- being "cranky" & assertive, "taking over" is sometimes hilarious, sometimes provocative, usually good.
  12:46pm Dean:

This Really Red is way different from "Holding Back the Years."

Great funk/punk!=Big Boys
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:

This morning's headlines included this gem: "Live Anthrax Mistakenly Sent to Labs in 9 States." I thought they were announcing a summer tour. It was containers of bacteria, though.
Avatar 12:59pm prof.fuzz:

hell yeah! culturcide.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...if once, a good gig - if not, stopped in the middle...
Avatar 1:19pm Cheri Pi:

We had the bouncers and the skinheads too in Cincy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

More 'civilized' now??...or just nowhere to play @ all?...
Avatar 1:21pm prof.fuzz:

Hi Ronnie. Just wanted to thank you for letting me hang out at Real Records after school. You turned me on to some great music and great people. Hope all is well with you.
  1:22pm mavrg:

Please ask him about Culturcide, and My Dolls.
Also, any chance of playing some AK-47, Huns, the Hates, Dicks, Teenage Queers?
  1:25pm James Nova:

Hi Ronnie! Glad you are getting the very well-deserved attention, even if 30 years late! So many great memories of the shows, the record store (you put me on the phone with my then-obsession Joan Jett in her motel), and Funhouse ("the competition" as we called it over at KTRU).
  1:30pm James Nova:

Ronnie, you probably do not recall our genteel sparring match over a quote of yours that I used in a review in either Public News or XLR8. I think it was about the DKs, something you told me over a beer not meant for public consumption.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:32pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- reminded of the 13th Floor Elevators' code of not playing unless tripping in 1960s Texas (& how that predictably turned out) - not that there's necessarily that much of a comparison...
  1:33pm fred:

HPD shut down an Einsterzede..... show in the exact same way in 87.

  1:34pm James Nova:

Fred: I was at that show! It was very brief!
  1:36pm fred:

hi-five James!
  1:37pm James Nova:

Fred: some place out on Westheimer I believe, and the neighbors were frightened by the sound.
Avatar 1:38pm V Priceless:

  1:40pm fred:

Yeah very near where the cover of that culturcide record photo was taken... as I remember rather than walls, there were chain linked fences, so the noise was traveling, uh, freely...
Avatar 1:40pm Cecile:

Avatar 1:41pm V Priceless:

  1:42pm paula pc:

still love "Starvation Dance" -- thank you Ron
  1:42pm mavrg:

Hey Nova, was the place on Westheimer the Cabaret Voltaire?
  1:43pm paula pc:

understand why you'd like The Ostrich, speaking of Starvation Dance
Avatar 1:43pm prof.fuzz:

nope. Cab Voltaire was never on Westheimer.
  1:44pm fred:

mavrg: no it was a very short lived performance space with poor sound insulated qualities... I think it was the site of a former Candy Land or some other simlarly named kiddie amusement park
Avatar 1:48pm V Priceless:

whoa! great kinks cut!
  1:57pm James Nova:

yes, fred, that's it. it was ill conceived for loud concerts.
  2:00pm James Nova:

fred, you still in Houston? I live in Harlem. did you ever listen to M&M/S&M Show on KTRU? I was on there for years.
Avatar 2:00pm Cecile:

Really Red did a superb version of War Sucks.
  2:01pm James Nova:

same Q to Prof. Fuzz.
Avatar 2:01pm Cecile:

they had the best psych bands in Texas back then. Just stellar.
Avatar 2:01pm Chris from DC:

Did you ever do any Golden Dawn?
Avatar 2:01pm prof.fuzz:

yup. i listened to a lot of KPFT and KTRU in the late 70s to mid-80s
Avatar 2:02pm Cecile:

RR were a great band because they had those influences.
Avatar 2:03pm Cecile:

you either became lockstep HC or went metal in 84
Avatar 2:03pm prof.fuzz:

i'm in Taipei for six months, but i live in dallas.
Avatar 2:03pm V Priceless:

Bubble Puppy!
Avatar 2:03pm Cecile:

not for everyone, but a lot of bands ended up that way.
  2:03pm James Nova:

Prof. Fuzz: early 80s KPFT was golden! Funhouse, King & the Chief, Art Gnuvo, so much wild stuff.
Avatar 2:03pm prof.fuzz:

Avatar 2:04pm Cecile:

Yay, Flipper!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Eating this up? Eating this up.
  2:04pm fred:

no I got out of houston as soon as I could. I was afraid of getting arrested and going to jail... Yep, I def heard that show on KTRU.
Avatar 2:04pm Cecile:

they were a band that broke open my mind about noise and rock. I have all their singles.
Avatar 2:04pm prof.fuzz:

ronnie let me guest dj a few times on funhouse. great times.
  2:05pm James Nova:

fred: Ha! I've gotten arrested way more in NYC than in TX!
Avatar 2:06pm Cecile:

if my nephews in Keller, TX are any indicator, it's still pretty stodgy. I told them to find the weirdos and they'd have more fun.
Avatar 2:07pm Cecile:

there was a kind of wildness and desperation to Texas psych and punk.
Avatar 2:08pm Cecile:

Does U-Ron have any Big Boys stories?
  2:08pm fred:

yeah but not for a roach of reefer... I hope
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Church of SubGenius also birthed as reaction to Texas society?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm common:

indeed, ceceil...about the desperation.
Avatar 2:09pm Cecile:

WOW. that's scary.
Avatar 2:10pm Cecile:

that's genius!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm common:

my old band played with the fuck-emos and other crazy bands in austin. i felt that crazy desperation. cherubs and such.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Stevel:

"Laughed out of town"! Perfect!
Avatar 2:12pm j_no-NYC:

Ronnie, Fred Paez was the gay activist. He was my KPFT mentor, taught me how to engineer. I was devastated by his murder.
Avatar 2:13pm j_no-NYC:

Engineering at KPDT back in the day many times involved holding stretched wires together with your fingers during an entire broadcast.
Avatar 2:13pm j_no-NYC:

KPFT, that is.
Avatar 2:13pm Cecile:

j_no, so terrible
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm Stevel:

With no sarcasm, I'd say to all of the members of that scene--Thank, you for your service. Really. Foolish or not, you recognized the injustice and spoke up. Bravo.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm common:

well said stevel!
Avatar 2:16pm j_no-NYC:

Cecile, Houston back then was like Baltimore today. Only being white offered little protection if you were punk, leftist, gay ...
  2:18pm Dean:

"Blah, Blah, Blah" was my favorite Clash tune.
Avatar 2:18pm Tito "Pepe" Infidado:

Balls to the Wall, Revolution in my heart and soul! Really Red Rips! Viva la Kamikaze!
Avatar 2:19pm j_no-NYC:

Diane, tell Ronnie to read the comments. I know he HATES the internet and technology. Although he emails me nearly every day!
Avatar 2:20pm Cecile:

Yeah, j_no, I'd read the scene reports from TX, and shudder back in the day.
Avatar 2:21pm Cecile:

I'm so glad to hear this. I've been a big RR fan for years.
Avatar 2:23pm Cecile:

is it like U-Roy?
Avatar 2:24pm Cecile:

hahahaha, I guessed it!
  2:25pm Dean:

I-Roy, too.
Avatar 2:26pm j_no-NYC:

the j-No moniker came from women telling me to back off.
Avatar 2:26pm V Priceless:

swell interview, you guys!
Avatar 2:27pm j_no-NYC:

RONNIE! Read the goddam comments!
Avatar 2:27pm prof.fuzz:

Diane: Great interview. Thanks for having Ron on the show. It's 2:30 AM in Taiwan. Gotta pack it in for the night. Tell Ron thanks for the memories!
Avatar 2:27pm j_no-NYC:

Thank you, Diane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Roky Erickson: Best Rawk Vocalist Ever?
☆ this episode for sure. Thx Ron & DK indeed.
Avatar 2:29pm Cecile:

Yes. He is one of the best, if not the best. Nobody can scream like him.
Avatar 2:31pm j_no-NYC:

Cecile/RRN63: I may be the only person with a Roky memory when he was SANE! It was at a record fair in the Astrodome in the mid-80s. No hint that this was one the craziest mofos around. Must've been on meds that day,
Avatar 2:32pm Cecile:

I hear that he's been quite stable of late. I missed his show here last year :(
Avatar 2:34pm j_no-NYC:

Saw Roky a few years ago in NYC at an outdoor concert. Amazing. Afterwards, he sat in his trailer staring out the window, while young girls and old guys were hanging at the door, hoping to talk to him. No dice.
Avatar 2:36pm Cecile:

probably his circuits were overloaded.
Avatar 2:41pm Cecile:

wow, culturecide and caroliner! That must have been a trip.
Avatar 2:42pm j_no-NYC:

Jon Peters
Avatar 2:43pm Cecile:

were they "versions"?
Avatar 2:43pm Cecile:

did culturecide do "Industrial Band"?
Avatar 2:44pm Diane Kamikaze:

@Cecile YES
Avatar 2:44pm j_no-NYC:

diane - tell Ronnie to check out the comments!
Avatar 2:45pm Diane Kamikaze:

I'm reading them to him!
  2:46pm Clay:

Stryper coming up?
Avatar 2:46pm j_no-NYC:

Ronnie: Marilyn says hi, but she is not online.
  2:50pm Trish Herrera:

Kurt Kren also sang with Mydolls
  2:50pm Trish Herrera:

Kurt Kren sand a Rumplestilskin song with Mydolls Live
Avatar 2:50pm Cecile:

that story sounds like something out of 70s San Francisco. Very cool cross-pollinating.

Avatar 2:58pm Cecile:

No, don't blame yourself. It's in the Bad Brains court.
Avatar 2:58pm j_no-NYC:

RCP TP! I love it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:58pm Ken From Hyde Park:
